Implausible, disconcerting political satire about infedility , double personality and adultery
ma-cortes16 April 2023
Typical Spanish comedy of the 70s deals with a politician leader becomes involved in a lot of incidents , and the film partially portrays the society of the Seventies , including a real politic satire , and being full of frivolity , egoism , duplicity , and deceits . Film about electoral period , the plot is a big mess ,it does not take advantage of its base of satire and tends towards a joke about equivocation and fake expectations , without much grace and with a lot of social stereotypes .Federico Villalba (Alfredo Landa), married to Margarita (Mirta Miller), is running as a municipal candidate in the local elections. Margarita discovers an alleged infidelity of Federico through television that could harm his candidacy . Things go wrong when he is seen by his wife Margarita and her friend (Florinda Chico) as a spectator in a soccer field with a pretty girl (Rosa Valenty) . Then Landa denies it , saying that he wasn't that spectator , as the wife begins to investigate discovering that the person who is similar to her husband turns out to be a playboy photographer(Alfredo Landa in double role) of naked women. So the wife willingly becomes a nude model while she falls in love and sleeps with him and even get pregnant.....

¨Mayor-by-election¨ or ¨Alcalde por Eleccion¨ stars Alfredo Landa giving an acceptable acting in his usual style but at an inferior vehicle . A film about electoral period with an embarrassing plot that's really unspeakable, silly and implausible, it does not take advantage of its satire base and tends towards a joke about infidelity in which Federico denies the adultery, stating that he must be someone very similar , resulting to be a mistake and false identity, it's displayed without grace and abound stereotypes. It is a nutty Spanish comedy that offers no intellectual stimulus whatsoever , though it has some fun and hilarious moments . Humor is sometimes cheesy and gross-out with numerous naughty and picaresque situations . This hilarious film is full of silliness , humor , absurd scenes , and narrating the conflict between the traditional Spanish society in which ruled a dictatorship and modernity with free elections , though corrupt ones , at times . It is a simple , and humorous portrait of a time , how the Spanish people lived in the 70s , including ambitious , egoistic people and adding brief nudism in charge of two actresses from ¨Destape¨period : Mirta Miller and Rosa Valenty , as usual . Its nostalgic look has some passable moments that reflect a Spain in the Seventies : a country in economic developing during the years when the action takes place and with a recent democracy . It is full of typical Spanish topics , a simple plot and including atmospheric sets , being shot in Madrid . This film is made to entertain , and this movie , especially for a good time and a mediocre entertainment , including bewildering happenings . The flick packs silly incidents , funny comical sketches , tongue-in-cheek , grotesque situations and above all , it especially contains catching touches of humor and irony . With a similar premise of political parody from the same period , other underestimated political spoofs are as follows as : "Que vienen los socialistas! (1982)¨ by Mariano Ozores , ¨Vota A Gundisalvo" by Pedro Lazaga , ¨Las autonosuyas¨ (1983) by Rafael Gil, ¨El alcalde y la política¨ (1980) by Luis Maria Delgado, all of them are more recommendable, more comical and intelligent and mainly directed by Mariano Ozores , Rafael Gil and Pedro Lazaga and usually starred by Alfredo Landa . This is an amusing , but below average comedy with top-notch actors and appearance of a lot of familar faces , such as : Florinda Chico , Antonio Ozores , Rafael Hernández, Rosa Valenty, Alfonso del Real , Adrián Ortega, Pilar Gómez Ferrer , Rosalia Dans , Tito García , among others.

Being low-budgeted and lousily directed by Mariano Ozores who made several flicks in similar wake . A craftsman filmmaker and writer who recently won a Goya Award (2016) to his long and fruitful career . As Mariano Ozores wrote , produced and directed several films , usually comedy genre , though he directed a Sci-fi flick : ¨La Hora Incognita¨(1964) but was a real flop and he was bankrupt . Then Mariano promised at the future only to make comedies . Although it won prize of the National Syndicate of Spectacle to best actor José Luis Ozores and Best artistic Achievement . Mariano directed 93 films , most of them were comedies , though made some dramas as "Alegre Juventud" and "Las Dos y Media y veneno" with José Luis Ozores again . Mariano directed a lot of comedies for the greatest Spanish comedians as Alfredo Landa, Paco Martinez Soria , José Luis López Vázquez , Lina Morgan , Jose Sacristán and the successful duo : Fernando Esteso and Andrés Pajares . He made with these two famous comedians , -Fernando and Andres Pajares- several films , as they had various years partnership, developing a successful artistic team between the two leads , such as ¨Agitese Antes Usarla¨ , ¨Al Este Del Oeste¨, ¨Los Liantes¨, ¨Los Energeticos¨, ¨La Lola Lleva Al Huerto¨ , ¨El Currante¨, El Hijo Del Cura¨ and especially ¨Los Bingueros¨ was one of their greatest hits . These films were charming as well as embarrassing comedies that contained crazy events , nudism , amusement , laughters and absurd situations . But also their certain importance talking about the Spanish society at the time . Their humor was sometimes cheesy and gross-out with numerous naughty and picaresque situations such as sex jokes , nudism, adulteries , jealousy , and a number of erotic scenes, but resulted to be really fun . Rating : 3.5/10 , only for Alfredo Landa fans .
