Drama based on true events about politics , corruption , strikes and Trade Unions

"The Truth on the Savolta Affair¨ results to be a political drama with nice performances , violence , a love story and many other things . The facts are mainly developed in Barcelona , 1918, a time in which there is a great mayhem , as the working class rises on strikes demanding what they consider fair and bourgeoisie class tries to calm their spirits using violence even hiring thugs to intimidate the instigators . As they hire murderers who brutally killed a lot of people and acting similarly to Sicilian Mafia . There appears Pajarito De Soto (Jose Luis Lopez Vazquez) , he is a poor journalist who is threatened for his political views and his criticism to violence on the situation of the Savolta (Omero Antonutti) enterprise where rules Law of Silence and ¨Omerta¨ about his dark activities . Lepprince (Charles Denner) is the second main character , he is a "baddie" who refers to prototype of gangster : astute , unscrupulous , elegant and brilliant . As the tale recounts his ascension in the Catalan bourgeoisie of the time by marrying to Savolta's daughter . Due to his political views on the Catalunya situation Pajarito is marginalized and suffers ostracism , though he attempts to do an ordinary life . Despite the constant threats and the warnings , he usually walks without fright and publicizes articles about corrupt Savolta . Pajarito befriends Miranda (Ovidi Montllor) and a delightful and enjoyable feeling seems to grow between them , then he gives up him some important documents about Savolta factory . Meanwhile , Miranda is having an affair with Pajarito's wife (Stefania Sandrelli) and a warm feeling of mutual affection emerges among them .

Moving historical drama plenty of political crimes , suspense , intrigue , delusions , plot twists , and real events about Cataluña and especially the Trade Unions . The story presents a variety of genres as pastiche , propaganda , historical text and twisted drama . The murder of the industrial Savolta, the title of the novel written by Eduardo Mendoza maintains a parallel with the occurred against industrial and arms dealer José Alberto Barret . The news was echoed in the major newspapers by that time . Well based on the novel by Eduardo Mendoza whose books have been adapted to cinema several times such as El Año Del Diluvio , La Ciudad De Los Prodigios , Soldados De Plomo and La Cripta . Despite being somewhat of a cinematic cliché, rarely has a feature so aptly deserving of its description as a historical drama along with some elements from politics, terrorism and ambition . The picture depicts a nice portrayal about a troublesome time in which revolutionary strikes and killings were frequent issues . The picture is acceptable, but also has conventional pitfalls . Because the story needs a vibration more real than the one offered in this sometimes slow-moving flick , though also contains interesting scenes , thrilling images and sensitive moments . Anyway, its is compensated with the great performances from main cast and support cast such as José Luis López Vázquez , Charles Denner , Omero Antonutti , Ovidi Montllor , Ettore Manni , Alfredo Pea and special appearance by Stefania Sandrelli who carries out some nude scenes .

The flick was well based on historical events surrounding Barcelona city . The city of Barcelona was the economic capital of Spain, and it was particularly contentious , as it was demonstrated in the Tragic Week in 1909 . The social crisis was facing a labor movement divided between socialists and anarchists who used both peaceful methods (strikes) and violent (the direct action of sometimes indiscriminate attacks, such as the Liceo de Barcelona in 1893) and an employer who used all kinds of tactics (from the scabs to gangsterism). The labor movement in other parts of Spain was less developed, but saw an opportunity to exploit the weakness of the confrontation between industrial bourgeoisie and government : the UGT (socialist Union, better established in Madrid and the Basque Country) convened a revolutionary general strike -August 1917-, which received the support of the CNT , anarchist union majority in Catalonia .

The motion picture was professionally directed by Antonio Drove , though being a shooting full of difficulties and hard-working . Antonio Drove was born in Madrid, 1942 and died in Paris, 2005 . He was a writer and director, known for writing : Hay Que Matar a B , Leyenda Alcalde Zalamea and he directed : ¿Qué Se Puede Hacer con Una Chica? (1969), El Túnel (1988) , Tocata y Fuga de Lolita (1974) and this Verdad Caso Savolta .
