Actor John Rhys-Davies is known for his role as Gimli, the dwarf warrior in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy. The loud-mouthed elf hater is played to perfection by the Welsh actor in the fantasy-adventure films. Rhys-Davies was nominated along with the rest of the cast for the Screen Actors Guild Award and won for The Return of the King.
While the actor has played other roles in his career, he is also most well-known for playing Sallah, the Egyptian friend of Indiana Jones in Steven Spielberg’s Indiana Jones films. Rhys-Davies was reportedly not the first choice for the role and the description reportedly needed a much shorter person. However, Rhys-Davies’ remark reportedly led Spielberg to change the character to suit the actor.

Back in 2001, Peter Jackson changed the whole movie adaptation game with the first chapter of his epic saga, based on J. R. R. Tolkien’s fantasy saga. Although there are some alterations from the original, The Lord of the Rings movies are still considered not only the best adaptation ever filmed, but even the most impeccable film series of all time.
Millions of fans around the world rewatch the trilogy every year or more often, without getting tired of exploring the world of Middle-earth at all. Luckily, some of them will get the chance to see it not only on the big screen, but also in a different version.
It has been reported Warner Bros. and Fathom Events are going to rerelease Jackson’s cultish saga in the extended and remastered editions on June 8-10. The films will screen across three days at Fathom Events participating chains, like Cinemark, AMC and Regal.

The redback spider, also known as the Australian black widow, is the kind of creature that might shake a person’s belief in God. This Lovecraftian nightmare freak hunts its prey with balletic precision and squirts them with organic superglue before injecting them with a venom that liquifies their insides; it then binds the victim in a silk straightjacket so that they’re still alive when the redback drinks their organs. It mostly feeds on insects, but has been known to devour lizards, snakes, and even mice. The spider’s toxin is powerful enough to kill a human being if left untreated, and is especially harmful to small children. The good news is that an antivenom has been available since 1956. The bad news is that people have had ample reason to use it, as the redback thrives in the dampness of modern architecture, and counts mailboxes and the underside of...

The year 2023 was clearly dominated by Larian Studios’ Baldur’s Gate 3, be it in terms of sales and revenue generated or sweeping through the award ceremonies. The game was applauded by both players and critics alike, while it also managed to claim the 2023 Game of the Year title.
Come 2024, and the game isn’t completely dead yet. Fans continue to obsess over the game. Naturally, a lot of fans expected and were eagerly awaiting more announcements from Larian Studios regarding a possible Dlc or a sequel.
Baldur’s Gate 3
However, the hopes of the fans were shattered when the devs announced that they had no such plans. That being said, the makers also shared some other interesting details about the game, assuring fans that there is indeed more to the game.
While it was no secret that Baldur’s Gate 3 was one of the most promising titles way before its release.

The 96th Academy Awards is just a few days away, and fans are waiting with bated breaths to find out which films will grab the top honors this year. The Oscars are probably the most prestigious film award in the industry, but it has often faced criticism for some of its shortfalls. From being accused of favoring white actors to Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig’s Oscar snub this year, the list of controversy is quite something! Similarly, Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe once called the Academy for failing to acknowledge the last film in this fantasy film franchise.

Did You Know This Film Franchise Has Won The Most Oscars? ( Photo Credit – IMDb; Facebook )
The Oscars 2024 are just around the corner; this year, all eyes will be on Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. The film and cast have taken home some top honors this award season. It is one of the biggest honors in the world of cinema. Over the years, many actors and films have won the prestigious Academy Awards, and some franchises have won multiple trophies, but do you know which popular film franchise has the highest number of Oscars?
For the unversed, the Academy Awards were first held in 1929 at a private dinner function at The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. It had an audience of about 270 people only. 2024 is the 96th year, with many more years to go. In a stunning cinematic universe where sand dunes rise like mountains and the fate of galaxies hangs in the balance, Denis Villeneuve’s first voyage into the Frank Herbert’s “Dune” saga clinched six of its 10 Oscar nominations. Yet, in a twist as dramatic as Dr. Wellington killing Duke Leto, Villeneuve found himself overlooked in the best director category — a snub that left fans (and pundits) in disbelief. I dare the Academy’s Directors Branch to make such an omission once again.
As “Dune: Part Two” unfolds, we dive back into the treacherous universe alongside Paul Atreides, played by the ever-charismatic Timothée Chalamet. Seeking vengeance for his father’s death (Oscar Isaac), Paul’s journey intertwines with new allies and enemies, portrayed by a constellation of stars including Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Javier Bardem and Christopher Walken.

The Lord of the Rings franchise has enchanted audiences worldwide with its masterful storytelling and breathtaking visuals across three epic adventure films. At the heart of this fantastical journey lies Aragorn, portrayed by the talented Viggo Mortensen, embodying the noble lineage and resolute spirit of the ancient king of Gondor.
Recently, two beloved actors Dominic Monaghan and Billy Boyd, who portrayed the lovable hobbits Merry and Pippin respectively, have stirred up quite a buzz with their whimsical desire.
Viggo Mortensen as Aragon
They desired to be laid to rest alongside the fictional king they so adored, Aragorn. However, Mortensen did not find himself enticed by the prospect of becoming a real-life burial companion to his former co-stars.
As a result, Monaghan and Boyd’s fanciful notion sparked excitement among fans.

Some categories go together naturally, like Best Picture and Best Director. It’s no different in the below-the-line categories, either, with Best Costume Design, Best Production Design and Best Makeup and Hairstyling having an interesting relationship with one another.
The three design awards are often paired or grouped together as a trio and awarded to the same film. Most recently, “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” won both Best Costume Design and Best Makeup and Hairstyling. Let’s take a closer look at this trifecta of categories and examine the last 20 ceremonies to break down how often these awards overlap.
As you can see, in the past two decades, there have been 11 instances where a film has won at least two of these three design categories.
Eight films have won both Costume Design and Production Design: “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” in 2004, “The Aviator” in 2005, “Memoirs of a Geisha...

This article contains major spoilers for "Madame Web."
Good news, fellow arachnophobes! Yes, it's an unfortunate inevitability that any film related to "Spider-Man" is going to feature at least a little bit of spidery spookiness at some point in the story. The same remains true of "Madame Web," the newly-released standalone film in Sony's Spider-Man Universe. But here's the biggest point in our favor: All those pesky, eight-legged arachnids are rendered in wholly unconvincing CGI, thus making this a far, far cry from Shelob in "The Return of the King" or that jump-scare early on in the first "Dune" movie. Yet even if they only exist in ones and zeroes, the nasty little critters are still chiefly responsible for, well, all the superpowered action taking place in the movie.

Guy Ritchie never sleeps, based on how many movies he manages to produce on a yearly basis — mostly without skipping a beat. The trailer for his latest film, "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare," seems to promise "Inglourious Basterds" by way of "The Gentlemen," with a balls-to-the-wall fun Nazi-killing movie featuring an ensemble cast of colorful characters that is (mostly) based on a true story.
Indeed, perhaps the most surprising part of the trailer is that "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" does not come from a Guy Ritchie movie title generator, but is instead the actual name of a real secret task force created during World War II by British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and "James Bond" writer Ian Fleming. Officially called the Special Operations Executive group, this covert organization was assembled to do one thing: kill Nazis, but in secret. With the 2023 Oscar nominations now in hand, it’s clear that Margot Robbie’s exclusion from the best actress race, along with “Barbie” director Greta Gerwig’s director snub, has outraged the blockbuster film’s massive global fanbase. Oscar nominations for supporting players America Ferrera and Ryan Gosling haven’t calmed the social media fury over what is perceived by Robbie fans as an unfathomable and unforgivable oversight.

The last time Sean Combs’ music competed at the Grammys, a then-unknown Mark Zuckerberg had just created Facebook, Nipplegate occurred at the Super Bowl and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King garnered a record-tying 11 Oscars. It was 2004, and Combs, aka Diddy, won best rap performance by a group or duo — his third Grammy — for the thumping hit “Shake Ya Tailfeather,” featuring Nelly and Murphy Lee. The track appeared on the Bad Boys II soundtrack, which Diddy executive produced and released on his Bad Boy label.
So his return to the Grammys, two decades later with a nomination for best progressive R&b album for his The Love Album: Off the Grid, is a major feat — and a proud moment for the artist. According to the current combined predictions of Gold Derby users, the 10 films that are expected to reap Best Picture nominations at this year’s Oscars are “American Fiction,” “Anatomy of a Fall,” “Barbie,” “The Holdovers,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “Maestro,” “Oppenheimer,” “Past Lives,” “Poor Things,” and “The Zone of Interest.” However there is a movie currently sitting not far behind in 17th place that I think deserves a spot: “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.”

Over the course of four years, Peter Jackson didn’t just make three The Lord of the Rings movies, he made three epics in the truest sense of the word. Between The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King, the trilogy clocked in at an astounding 9 hours and 18 minutes. (That was for the theatrical run — Jackson’s subsequent director’s cuts added an extra two hours to that total!) Complicating matters even more was the fact that Jackson was shooting all three of them in one mammoth, 14-month-long shoot. However, the stars aligned, and Jackson told us that somehow, everything managed to work out perfectly. This year marks the 20th anniversary of The Return of the King, the final part of the Academy Award-winning The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Adapted from celebrated author J.R.R. Tolkien’s high fantasy novels of the same name, these films more than just introduced the iconic realm of Middle-earth to millions of fans around the world; they became legends in their own right. So much so, The Lord of the Rings has become a holiday staple celebrated by millions around the globe.
Indeed, despite being set in a world without the usual Yuletide trappings, this trilogy has quietly become something of a Christmas tradition, and an annual viewing appointment every December. Here’s how the films’ surprise connection with the holiday season began, why they’re so perfectly suited for the festive start of winter, and how The Hobbit trilogy only strengthened the association a decade later.

Let's get something clear, "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" has the perfect number of endings, and they are what makes this such an incredible and inimitable trilogy.
There are about 27 minutes of film between the moment the ring goes back into the fiery chasm from whence it came. This includes Frodo and Sam being rescued by eagles. A reunion with the fellowship. The coronation of Aragorn. The return to The Shire. And finally, Frodo sailing off into the West with the elves.
A lesser movie would just end with the reunion and tell all the rest via text on the screen. A slightly better movie would choose to end with The Coronation, as everyone in Minas Tirith kneels before the hobbits, the real heroes. After all, that is the end of the story. The evil has been defeated, and the titular king has returned. But...

At this point, Peter Jackson's "Lord of the Rings" trilogy is the stuff of pure legend. What the filmmaker accomplished -- filming three of the most sprawling fantasy epics all at once, with all three films turning into monster success stories both critically and commercially -- is made all the more impressive when we consider that before filming J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth saga, Jackson was best known for making smaller-scale horror movies like "The Frighteners." 20 years ago, that success story took its most impressive victory lap when "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" hit theaters.

When adapting any great work of literature, or even one that is just mid, filmmakers and visual artists will be forced to make changes big and small for any myriad of reasons. Sometimes it is due to the economy of storytelling in a truncated form—such as the famous example of Scarlett O’Hara’s number of children shrinking from three to one in Gone with the Wind. Other times, the changes are made because the requirements of a visual medium shifts the structure of the story; like showing the massacre at Hardhome by ice zombies in Game of Thrones instead of simply reading about it in a letter. There are even times when the filmmaker wants to put a modern spin on the text. This would be how every Dracula now is a sexy rock star god.
But then, dear reader, there are times when the filmmaker or screenwriter sees...

Peter Jackson‘s “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy amassed 28 Oscar nominations and 17 wins between the three films while the prequel “The Hobbit” series garnered a further seven nominations. Out of those 35 Academy Award bids, however, only one came for acting. That was for Sir Ian McKellen when he was nominated in 2002 for Best Supporting Actor for “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.” It was Jim Broadbent who won that category that year, for “Iris,” so Middle Earth performers have been overlooked somewhat for their part in the huge success of the fantasy film series. However, a handful of thespians who have appeared in either “The Lord of the Rings” or “The Hobbit” (or both) have found Oscar success elsewhere in their career. Here’s the rundown.

Sure, 28 Oscar nominations and 17 wins aren’t to be sniffed at. But the remarkable thing about Peter Jackson‘s “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy is that it should have been nominated for more. Only one of the cast was nominated for an Oscar across all three films — that was for Best Supporting Actor for Sir Ian McKellen in 2002 for “The Fellowship of the Ring” — while there were a few other curious snubs that, in hindsight, just don’t make sense. So, there was actually more room to nominate this rightly-heralded trilogy of astounding films. With that in mind, here are five more Oscar nominations “The Lord of the Rings” should have landed.
Best Original Score: “The Two Towers”
The music of “The Lord of the Rings” has gone down as one of the best scores ever committed to film. Howard Shore‘s adored score is so top drawer it leaves you clamoring for more.

In 2004, “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” became the film with joint-most Oscar wins of all time with a whopping 11 victories, matching the total tallies of both “Titanic” and “Ben-Hur.” Those 11 Academy Awards capped off a hugely successful trilogy of movies that collectively snagged 28 Oscar nominations and 17 wins in total. But yet… Peter Jackson‘s film series, adapted from the work of J.R.R. Tolkien, is so, so good that, well, it could have won more. That sounds greedy and over the top, of course, but if you take a look at each film’s nominations, it’s actually very feasible that any one of the three films could have turned the bid into a win. So, with that in mind, here are five Oscar nominations that “The Lord of the Rings” films could and perhaps should have turned into victories.

The acting ensemble in Peter Jackson‘s “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy is nothing short of spectacular. Younger actors including Elijah Wood and Orlando Bloom became stars while the cast was peppered with veteran thespians, too, including Sir Ian McKellen, Christopher Lee, and John Rhys-Davies.
British actors such as Sean Bean and Andy Serkis, American stars like Sean Astin and Viggo Mortensen, and Australian performers including Cate Blanchett and David Wenham all melded together to breathe life into Middle Earth. The shocking thing, however, is that only one actor landed an Oscar nomination for their work in the esteemed trilogy. That was McKellen, who was nominated in 2002 for playing Gandalf the Grey in the first movie, “The Fellowship of the Ring.” But so many more actors could and should have been nominated for their work in Jackson’s film series. Here are just five such cases.

Viggo Mortensen is a three-time Oscar nominated performer who has been very picky with his projects, appearing only in a handful of movies in a 30-plus year career. But how many of his titles hold up as classics? Let’s take a look back at 12 of his greatest films, ranked worst to best.
Born in 1958 in New York City, Mortensen made his big screen debut with a brief performance as an Amish farmer in “Witness” (1985). Supporting roles in “Carlito’s Way” (1993), “Crimson Tide” (1995), “G.I. Jane” (1997) and many others quickly followed. He achieved stardom in middle age playing the warrior Aragorn in Peter Jackson‘s “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, released in 2001, 2002 and 2003. His first Oscar bid as Best Actor came shortly thereafter for David Cronenberg‘s thriller “Eastern Promises” (2007), followed by nominations for “Captain Fantastic” (2016) and the Best Picture-winning “Green Book” (2018).

The race by the AMPTP and the WGA to get a deal done by sundown had plenty of folks thinking back to a very memorable episode of Entourage — Doug Ellin, included.
The creator of the HBO comedy was reminded Sunday on X about how the weekend negotiations between the AMPTP and the WGA sounded “like an Entourage storyline.”
Ellin replied, “And on Yom Kippur it sure does.”
Not sure what he’s talking about? Think back 16 years ago to the season 3 episode dubbed “The Return of the King.” The 2007 episode kicks off with the boys at the race track while Ari Gold (Jeremy Piven) is arriving at temple before the start of Yom Kippur. That’s when he runs into Nick Rubenstein (Adam Goldberg), the neurotic son of movie producer Phil Rubenstein who is making the movie Medellin with Paul Haggis.

At last count, there have been nine studio-sanctioned feature films to have been adapted from J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth fantasy novels.
"The Hobbit," the first book in the series, was published in 1937, while a follow-up trilogy called "Lord of the Rings" was published in 1954 and 1955. Tolkien was both a linguist and a pacifist, so the books tended to lean toward elaborately constructed fantasy languages as well as antiwar themes. The mythology of Middle-earth was so vast and complex, Tolkien also wrote a book called "The Silmarillion" in which deep-cut details from within the "Rings" universe were laid out in excruciating, mythological detail.
For many years, multiple filmmakers and producers attempted to adapt the first book, "The Hobbit" to film. According to Brian J. Robb's and Paul Simpson's 2013 book "Middle-earth Envisioned: The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings: On Screen, On Stage, and Beyond," Walt Disney had considered...

Actors know that accidents happen while filming, but some movies seem to have a surplus of bad luck. The Lord of the Rings trilogy saw numerous injuries before the legendary journey was complete. The cast suffered broken bones, dislocations, and numerous cuts and bruises. One unlucky cast member had more than his fair share of serious injuries while filming the second installment of the series, however.

Peter Jackson‘s “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy was a box office and awards blockbuster when it was released from 2001 to 2003. Now the ambitious big-budget “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” streaming series has come two decades later. But will it do as well at the Emmys as the trilogy did at the Oscars?

You’d expect a movie called “The Breaking Ice” to be cold and Anthony Chen’s gentle drama about three isolated young people finding moments of connection definitely stays away from passionate and heated statements. But it’d be a mistake to think that Chen’s restraint comes at the expense of feeling, because “The Breaking Ice” is one of the most beautifully evocative films to screen during the first few days of this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
A luminous “Jules and Jim” riff with a stunning visual design and a real purpose to its apparent aimlessness, “The Breaking Ice” screened on Sunday in the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes, bringing the Singaporean director back to the festival where he won the Camera d’Or for “Ilo Ilo” in 2013, and also appeared as part of the Covid-era anthology film “The Year of the Everlasting Storm” in 2021.

Elijah Wood may be having a bit of a moment with "Yellowjackets," but it's far from his only headline-grabbing role. Wood has been steadily working on our screens since the late 1980s, with a varied career that includes acting in TV and movies, doing voice work, producing and writing, and more.
While Wood definitely has become a permanent fixture in pop culture thanks to his role in "The Lord of the Rings," his career is much more eclectic and varied than just the blockbusters. He's the kind of actor who seems to delight in taking unusual and creative projects, with roles ranging from outright comedy and family-friendly hits to thrillers, dark dramas, and everything in between. Let's take a look back at some of his big-screen highlights over the years.

Led Zeppelin had many songs with fantastical imagery. “Immigrant Song” is a perfect example of a song that blends visions of mythology into an epic rock song. One fantasy author who influenced members of Led Zeppelin was J. R. R. Tolkien, the legendary writer of The Lord of the Rings series. Here are three Led Zeppelin songs featuring Lord of the Rings references.

The MTV Movie and TV Awards are driven by fans, so they’re more welcoming to popular sequels than, say, the Oscars usually are. To date, three film franchises have won the Golden Popcorn for Best Movie multiple times. This year there could be a fourth if “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” or “Scream VI” prevails.
The first franchise to win the top prize multiple times was “The Lord of the Rings.” In fact, all three films in the trilogy won Best Movie: “The Fellowship of the Ring” in 2002, “The Two Towers” in 2003, and “The Return of the King” (the one that won the Oscar) in 2004.
Even more popular was “Twilight,” which won Best Movie for four out of its five entries: the original in 2009, “New Moon” in 2010, “Eclipse” in 2011, and “Breaking Dawn Part 1” in 2012. “Breaking Dawn Part 2” wasn’t even nominated for Best Movie; MTV might have wanted to avoid...

Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy divides fans. While many were thrilled that Jackson and collaborators Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens returned to Middle Earth to film this adaptation of J.R.R Tolkien’s book, more than a few fans felt the movies didn’t live up to what had come before. Those films are regarded as modern classics, with the third movie, The Return of the King, even winning Best Picture and Director Academy Awards. How do you follow up a classic?

The Silmarillion...
