Molly Bell : I'm with Keith Lennox productions. Molly. Molly Bell. That's what they call me. My real name is a lot longer.
Jess Robin : So is mine.
Molly Bell : Belengocavela?
Jess Robin : Rabinovitch?
Molly Bell : Oh. That's not bad.
-
Molly Bell : Honey, what happened? What was that all about?
Jess Robin : When a Jew mourns somebody dead, they tear a piece of their clothing.
Molly Bell : Who's dead?
Jess Robin : [bitterly] I am.
-
Jess Robin : You overlook the beach?
Molly Bell : Sometimes, the rent.
-
Rabbi Birnbaum : [Jess is quietly playing "Love on the Rocks" on the piano after his Bar Mitzvah student leaves, then he walks up calling] Jessel? Jessel? There's a telephone call for you!
Jess Robin : Thank you.
[He hops down and jogs off towards the phone]
Rabbi Birnbaum : [as Jess proceeds to take the call, concerned] It's long distance. Nobody died, God forbid?
Jess Robin : [Into phone] Hello?
Bubba : [Through the phone] So how's my favorite white man?
Jess Robin : Bubba!
[to the rabbi]
Jess Robin : It's okay.
[He walks off relieved. Back to the phone]
Jess Robin : How's L.A.? You still working on your tan?
Bubba : [Cut to him in a café on the phone, he laughs] Every day, Jess, every day.
-
Jess Robin : Leo, why don't you go ask Tillie to dance?
Leo : I'm resting.
Jess Robin : Just go ask her to dance, please.
Leo : There's no music.
Jess Robin : Leo, please! Go ask Tillie to dance!
[Motions to him to leave]
Leo : [Finally gets the hint] I'll dance.
-
Molly Bell : [They've been waiting for a call from Bubba at a restaurant where he works to get Jess a gig playing there. The phone rings and Molly knocks stuff down running to get it]
[Picks up phone]
Molly Bell : Hello?
[pause]
Molly Bell : Yeah, Bubba.
[pause, then excited]
Molly Bell : OH, THAT'S GREAT!
[quickly listens, then all calm again]
Molly Bell : Well, I dunno. I'll have to ask the cantor.
[to Jess calmly]
Molly Bell : You think you'll still be here 10:30 Saturday?
Jess Robin : Well, I might have a Hollywood Bowl engagement, but they'll move it. YES! Tell him 'yes'!
Molly Bell : [Back in the phone calmly again] Oh, he said 'yes'.
[pause]
Molly Bell : Alright! You're on!
[Hangs up, then to Jess nonchalantly]
Molly Bell : Piece of cake.
-
Jess Robin : [Looking around outside the airport] Jess, welcome to California.
Molly Bell : No, wait.
[Calls a limo over and it rolls up]
Molly Bell : Now! Welcome to California.
-
Jess Robin : [watching as Keith Lennox does a rock version of "Love on the Rocks"] He's just kidding around, right?
Molly Bell : No, they're doing it for real.
Jess Robin : This song is supposed to be a ballad.
Paul Rossini : That's his style, mister. Made him a millionaire.
Jess Robin : Yeah, but the thing is it's too fast. You can't hear the words.
Paul Rossini : Yeah, that's why we brought you down here. He changed the tempo. You got to change the lyrics.
Keith Lennox : [shouts] Hold it!
[whistles, then screaming at the top of his lungs]
Keith Lennox : HOLD IT!
[the music stops and the Four Brothers yank their headsets off in agony]
Keith Lennox : What are you playing? I told you three... how many times... Three times I've told you, it's too slow! Don't you understand, it's too slow. I want it faster, all right? Faster. Da da da da, all right? Boom boom boom boom!
Paul Rossini : We can hear the "boom boom" in here, darling. It really sounds wonderful...
Keith Lennox : [interrupts him] I don't give a monkey's what you can hear, all right?
Paul Rossini : But we're going to...
Keith Lennox : [motioning with his hand] Shut it! Just shut it, all right?
