After working on Caboblanco, Thompson moved onto the slasher genre with Happy Birthday to Me (1981). Whilst by no means the best the genre has to offer, Happy Birthday to Me proved to be an enjoyable horror film, and definitely better than some similar films made in the wake of John Carpenters Halloween (1978). Between Caboblanco and 10 to Midnight, Bronson kept himself busy, starring in director Peter Hunt’s Death Hunt (1981), which found the actor sharing the screen once again with Lee Marvin, the first time since working together on The Dirty Dozen. Opening to mixed reviews, Death Hunt is still an excellent old style action movie, and one of Bronson’s best later star vehicles. Death Hunt was followed by Death Wish 2 (1982),...

Lee Marvin rose through the ranks of movie stardom as a character actor, delivering mostly villainous supporting turns in many films before finally graduating to leading roles. Regardless of which side of the law he was on however, he projected a tough-as-nails intensity and a two-fisted integrity which elevated even the slightest material. Born February 19, 1924, in New York City, Marvin quit high school to enter the Marine Corps and while serving in the South Pacific was badly wounded in battle when a machine gun nest shot off part of his buttocks and severed his sciatic nerve. He spent a year in recovery before returning to the U.S. where he began working as a plumber. The acting bug bit after filling in for an ailing summer-stock actor and he studied the art at the New York-based American Theater Wing. Upon making his debut in summer stock,...

We were all a bit surprised this week by 20th Century Fox's official announcement of a New Mutants film, coming from The Fault in Our Stars director Josh Boone.
X-Men writer and producer Simon Kinberg revealed that Boone will be teaming with Knate Gwaltney (Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa) to deliver a script.
Unless you are a committed X-Men fan, we imagine your first thought was: 'Who are the New Mutants?'
Not wanting to see you left in the dark, here is our beginner's guide to everything you need to know about the New Mutants:
X-Men Juniors
Simply put, the New Mutants was a training group for young X-Men.
The New Mutants comic was introduced at the height of the '80s X-Men craze, when Marvel's mighty mutants were the biggest property in comics.
Chris Claremont - whose 16+ years on X-Men defined the team forever - teamed up with artist...

Ed Lauter was one of my favorite character actors, one who seemed to be around as long as I can remember. With his height, balding head, and distinctive bearing, Lauter was often cast as cops, toughs and villains. He was Captain Knaur, the head prison guard opposite Burt Reynolds in The Longest Yard. He costarred with Charles Bronson four times (Breakheart Pass, The White Buffalo, Death Hunt, and Death Wish 3). He acted alongside Clint Eastwood last year in Trouble With The Curve (I was surprised that was the first time the two had performed together). He was in Hitchcock’s Family Plot and was one of the few highlights of the ’76 version of King Kong. He even had a nice role as Berenice Bejo’s butler in the Oscar-winning The Artist in 2011. He worked steadily for four decades and was always an asset to whatever film he was in.

Rochester, NY - Ever wonder why schools today stink compared to decades ago? Every think tank moron has their dubious reasonings that appeases their corporate masters. But the truth is extraordinarily simple: Schools dumped their education films.
Do you remember those days when the gym teacher had to pad out health class by wheeling in the 16mm projector from the Av department? They’d thread up classic tales about your body, narcotics, driving safety and manners. Things which kids nowadays can’t seem to handle.
When the Vcr arrived in schools, the 16mm projector was quickly dumped as teaching tool.
Where did these classic films go? Many arrived at the city dump. However a few lucky tens of thousands found themselves on the racks of the Av Geeks Archive. This repository of cinematic education is overseen by Skip Elsheimer. He started collecting the films after I moved out of the infamous PineHaus.

Len Lesser, the veteran character actor best known for his scene-stealing role as Uncle Leo on "Seinfeld," has died. He was 88.
Lesser's family said in a statement that he died Wednesday in Burbank, Calif., from cancer-related pneumonia.
Lesser's lengthy list of television credits included parts on "Get Smart," "That Girl," "The Munsters," "The Monkees," "The Rockford Files," "thirtysomething," "ER," and "Everybody Loves Raymond," which featured Lesser in a recurring role as the arm-shaking Garvin. His film credits included Outlaw Josey Wales, Kelly's Heroes, Birdman of Alcatraz and Death Hunt. He most recently appeared on the TV drama "Castle" but for many he'll likely be fondly remembered for playing Jerry Seinfeld's wacky, befuddled uncle Leo, who was keen on proper salutations and known for being exquisitely cheap.

Those guys who did The Devil Dared Me To, a daredevil comedy set in New Zealand, are back with something that sounds so outrageous, so fantastical that I already want to see it. Bare knucle brawling women? Check. Men hunting whales for dinner? Check. Just read below to see what I mean.
"Inspired by tough screen stars like Charles Bronson and Lee Marvin and rollicking adventure films like Death Hunt, Jeremiah Johnson and Apocalypto – the creators Matt Heath and Chris Stapp want to create an epic story of good and evil and set it in a quasi-parallel New Zealand universe.
The story takes place in the deep south of the South Island in the late 1900s, a unruly world where women have bare knuckle fist fights in the muddy main streets and men hunt whales for dinner.
An insanely over-the-top world exaggerated to the extremes, one that pokes fun of...
