The character and the audience should realize that the girl's footsteps are quiet, and she left the house without bumping into anything... even though she's blind.
The UK VHS releases by Elephant, Vampix, and Vipco from 1992 had to be censored in order to get the BBFC-18 rating in 1992. Even the theatrical release in the UK offered the exact same cuts. The VHS by Vampix from 1983 was actually banned and included in the Video Nasties list. However, in 1985 it was taken off from the list again. Besides the shortened versions there also exist several uncut VHS and DVD releases.
Passed for BBFC 'X' certificate on 27th August 1981 after 1 minute 39 seconds of cuts. Cuts made to chain whipping in prologue, eye=gouging of caretaker, extensive cuts to spider attack (an improvement?), eyeball impalement, throat ripping by dog, and exploding head. This cut version, certificated for cinema, was released on the Vampix sublabel of the Videomedia label, was included on pne of the DPP 'video nasty' lists. Though it was later dropped, this amounted to a de facto ban. The same version, with a runtime of 82 minutes, was subsequently resubmitted by Elephant video in 1987, and Vipco in 1992, in both cases it was classified 18.
