Home viewing charts inspire deja vu: “Anyone but You,” a hit as a PVOD release, just debuted at Netflix. It knocked out Netflix’s expensive “Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver” from first place after two weeks, falling to #6.
Similarly, “Dune: Part Two” returned for its second week as #1 at both iTunes (ranking by transactions) and Fandango (which calculates by revenue).
The “Dune” sequel fended off challenges by two recent theatrical releases. Dev Patel’s “Monkey Man” (Universal), once intended as a Netflix original, is #2 at iTunes, third at Fandango. The family-oriented “Arthur the King” (Lionsgate) took second at Fandango, but only #6 at iTunes. Both initially are available to rent for 48 hours for $19.99.
Two new home-play debuts also made top 10 lists. “Cash Out” (Saban) is #9 at iTunes, renting at $6.99; starring John Travolta, the critically reviled title may be getting as much attention for its little-known director Ives. That’s...

The critically acclaimed horror movie Late Night With the Devil was released into theaters nationwide last month, and after scaring up over $10 million, it’s now available at home!
How and where can you watch Late Night with the Devil at home, you ask?
The easiest – and cheapest – way to watch Late Night with the Devil at home is to stream the film on Shudder, which is currently its exclusive streaming home. A brand new prequel with its roots in a 1970s classic, The First Omen will be released into theaters on April 5 by 20th Century Studios, and the studio is embracing the ’70s aesthetic with this latest round of marketing. Check out a retro trailer and retro poster art below.
This new retro-style trailer isn’t merely a past trailer with a ’70s aesthetic applied to it, as it also features some bits of new footage from the movie that we hadn’t previously seen. The period-authentic trailer hypes the film as “a film of psychological suspense… about an occurrence of earth-shaking importance.” It’s a damn good trailer, nailing that retro vibe.
Tickets for The First Omen went up for grabs today, so you can navigate over to Fandango or your favorite movie ticketing website to grab yours if you like what you’re seeing below.

We just got some disappointing news for fans of The Chosen eagerly anticipating Season 4.
Sadly, it will be some time before the series is made available on streaming platforms, and right now we don’t know when that time will be.
However, it’s not all bad news — at least for those in the U.S. and Canada because the series will be shown in theatres over the Easter weekend.
Theatergoers can buy tickets to watch all eight episodes over the three-day weekend, at a discounted cost.
As for international viewers and everyone else waiting with anticipation to see the show, it will be available on The Chosen app at some point, and yes it will be free.
However, fans will have to exercise a bit of patience because no date has been given for that.

Oscar-winning films were denied a theatrical victory lap, grossing less than $1 million total last weekend. They found gold at home, where titles like “Oppenheimer” and “Poor Things” ranked high on both VOD and on streaming.
Two $19.99 PVOD titles lead the VOD charts. “Anyone but You” (Sony) remains #1 at iTunes and Google, while the just-released “Madame Web” is #1 at Fandango. “Anyone” is #5 at Fandango, while “Madame Web,” released last Friday, has yet to be listed at Google Play, which always lags a few days.
Oscar titles otherwise dominated. Five films, all with rentals between $4.99 and $6.99 (and all but one also streaming), took 12 of 30 positions on three VOD charts. “Oppenheimer” and “Poor Things” (Searchlight) swept the field.
On two charts were winners “American Fiction” (Amazon MGM), “Anatomy of a Fall” (Neon), and “The Zone of Interest” (A24). “The Beekeeper” (Amazon MGM), still at $19.99, and “Wonka” (WB), now reduced to $5.99, round out the...

We’ve been waiting for this one for quite some time.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that Legendary Entertainment and Warner Bros.’ Dune: Part Two opens this weekend to give a much-needed jolt of testosterone to a box office winded by the dual strikes’ delay of titles. To date, the annual 2024 domestic box office hasn’t cracked a billion dollars yet, with only $866.3M through Sunday, 18% behind the January 1-February 25 frame a year ago.
The second part to Denis Villeneuve’s multi-Oscar-winning 2021 feature take of the classic Frank Herbert novel could very well see a $170M worldwide opening — that’s divided into $85M–$90M abroad and another $80M on the high end in U.S./Canada. Warners conservatively is projecting $65M, but most exhibitors and tracking services see near $80M.

Cillian Murphy and Christopher Nolan’s collaboration is one for the history books. Ever since they first met on the set of Batman Begins, they have collaborated on 6 movies with the Oscar-nominated flick Oppenheimer being the latest. Now being friends for over two decades, the actor feels pretty confident working with one of the most prolific directors in the entire film industry.
Cillian Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer in Oppenheimer
While he has since grown to love Nolan’s film sets and feels pretty comfortable, there was a time when he felt terribly nervous being on a Nolan set. In an old unearthed interview of the BAFTA-winning actor, he revealed which of Nolan’s brilliant movies made him the most nervous.

Deadpool 3, Beetlejuice 2 and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire top Fandango’s list of most-anticipated wide-release movies in 2024. (See the full top 10 and other charts below.)
The NBCUniversal-owned digital movie brand surveyed 8,000 ticket buyers about the titles they’re most looking forward to, and also gauged their mood heading into next year. About 81% of respondents say they are more excited about films in 2024 than they were heading into 2023, with 88% declaring their intention to go to multiple films.
The mindset of the moviegoer has been difficult to discern in recent years as Covid and the streaming boom upended decades of traditional business methods. Theatrical moviegoing has gradually reasserted its potential as a profit source, but studios still appear likely to release fewer films next year, in part due to the strikes. The Fandango charts also show that Hollywood has become ever more reliant on familiar IP. After the Deadpool, Beetlejuice and Ghostbusters franchise installments,...

Indie production shop Wonderfilm has been sued for fraud and breach of contract in a lawsuit accusing the company and its directors of swindling an investor — which was allegedly led to believe it was financing a Mel Gibson-led film only for the project to never get finished due to a lack of funds — out of more than $5 million.
Investor Gridiron Productions alleges fraud in a lawsuit claiming Wonderfilm principals Bret Saxon and Jeff Bowler changed the terms of contracts to pay themselves exorbitant salaries on top of exaggerating the budget for the movie, with the goal of making it for less and pocketing the difference.
The lawsuit filed on Sept. 12 in California federal court mirrors claims made in other legal actions against Saxon. According to a review of court records by The Hollywood Reporter, he was named in 2011 in a series of complaints accusing him of operating a “ponzi scheme,...

Singer Taylor Swift reportedly will make her Marvel debut in ‘Deadpool 3’. The online report, courtesy of The DisInsider, claims that the award-winning singer/songwriter will make a cameo appearance as Dazzler in the upcoming movie. Dazzler is one of several ‘X-Men’ characters rumored to join Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in the movie, reports aceshowbiz.com.
Other names rumoured to make appearance in the upcoming threequel are Taron Egerton as a Wolverine variant along with the returns of Famke Janssen and Halle Berry as Jean Grey and Storm respectively. None of these casting rumors has been confirmed, though.
Meanwhile, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has long expressed that he’s a big fan of Dazzler. Fandango’s Erik Davis quote-tweeted the casting rumor while adding, “Many years ago I asked Kevin Feige if he were to ever direct his own Marvel movie, which character would he want to focus on.

Margot Robbie refused to use a foot double for the 'Barbie' shoe scene which went viral. The Australian actress stars in the new movie about the iconic doll and footage of Barbie slipping off her high heels sparked a huge buzz on social media after it was featured in the trailer - and Margot has now insisted she wanted to film the scene herself instead of using someone else's feet.During an interview with 'Fandango', she explained: "It was probably about eight takes. Wasn’t that many. They are my feet. I walked up, we had little sticky bits on the floor, double-sided tape for the shoes, so they wouldn’t come off, so I could get my feet out of them. And I was holding onto, like, a bar. But that’s it. I wasn’t in a harness or anything like that. I just walked up,...

The Olympics are a big deal for NBCUniversal.
The winter and summer games dominate the ratings, the culture and the sports landscape while they are happening. And they serve as a tentpole for Peacock, the company’s streaming service.
So with the Paris 2024 Olympics a little over a year away, the company is just beginning to get out its message to viewers: Save the date.
NBCU is beginning a multi-platform marketing push, using the “Save the Date” theme, to get consumers amped up for the Olympics, which will kick off July 26 of next year. And to help it do so, the company is turning to some old friends:
In the first commercial spot for the new campaign, legendary country singer Dolly Parton (who has appeared in NBC Christmas specials), WWE superstar Roman Reigns and a minion are all involved.

Queen’s biggest hit nearly took its name from a different part of the Eastern Hemisphere, according to some handwritten notes by Freddie Mercury. A sheet of lyrics — soon to go to auction with about 1,500 more of the late singer’s personal items — appears to have some early scrawlings titled “Mongolian Rhapsody,” which would, of course, become what we know as “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
As Rolling Stone points out, the pages in question (featuring the logo of a now-defunct airline) includes some familiar zingers; “Is this the real life/ Or is this just fantasy?” seems to have been “Bohemian Rhapsody”‘s opening lines from the get-go. But we also see some lines that Mercury was evidently workshopping: “Mama/ There’s a war began/ I’ve got to leave tonight,” for one.
Additionally, the pages are also scattered with many alternatives to the unforgettable “Galileo!” “Scaramouch!” “Fandango!” chant: “Momento,” “Belladonna,” and “Matador” are a few,...

Freddie Mercury’s handwritten lyrics for Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” reveal that the song was nearly titled “Mongolian Rhapsody,” according to a lyric sheet bound for auction this month.
Sotheby’s previously announced their impending auction of 1,500 personal items belonging to the Queen singer, and on Thursday, the auction house revealed more of what’s hitting the block, including Mercury’s sprawling 15 pages of lyrics — written on stationary for a defunct airline — for what would eventually become “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

We're a little over a week out from the release of "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" — the highly-anticipated sequel to the 2018 Oscar-winning movie — and the first reactions to the film have arrived on social media. And according to critics who were lucky enough to catch an early screening, "Across the Spider-Verse" is "terrific," an "incredible accomplishment," and the "ultimate Spider-Man experience." As you might've expected, everyone is going ga-ga over the work put into the animation, noting how it's "impossible to see it all [and] experience it all in one sitting."
Collider's Steven Weintraub echoed that with his reaction: "Absolutely loved ['Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.'] Wanted to push pause about a hundred times to study the incredible artistry on display. Cannot recommend this film enough and already looking forward to seeing it again." Characters being highlighted include "Get Out" star Daniel Kaluuya's Hobart "Hobie" Brown/Spider-Punk who uses a guitar as a weapon,...

The summer movie season starts with Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy 3” (Disney) opening on May 2, expected to be among the top domestic hits for the season. It should be high on the list of a dozen titles that we expect to gross more than $100 million — three more than in summer 2022. However, there’s nothing this year that’s projected to perform at the level of last summer’s “Top Gun: Maverick” ($719 million total).
Advance projections tend to favor known brands, but they can be way off. The guess for “Maverick” was around $200 million. “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” currently at $340 million domestic after two weeks, initially hoped for $300 million across its entire run.

When "Shazam!" first flew into theaters in 2019, the young-at-heart hero was a breath of fresh air. After being called upon by an ancient wizard, 14-year-old Billy Batson (Asher Angel) gained unbelievable powers as the adult superhero, Shazam (Zachary Levi). And as any teen boy would, he immediately put those powers to excellent use by skipping school, wreaking (accidental) havoc, and bonding with his foster brother, Freddy (Jack Dylan Grazer).
At the time, "Shazam!" was a surprisingly pleasant entry in the lackluster DC Extended Universe. And though it found interesting ways to integrate horror, it veered away from the grim Snyder-era films with its distinct sense of humor. Between being genuinely great and earning plenty of love, a sequel was inevitable. Four years and a complete upheaval of the Dceu later, the Shazamily has returned for "Shazam! Fury of the Gods"! And based on the early buzz, they're more magical than ever.

Before 1987, Kevin Costner might've been best known in Hollywood for the movie in which he didn't appear.
Lawrence Kasdan's "The Big Chill" gave just about everyone involved a massive career boost, and probably would've done likewise for Costner had he not been cut out of the film. He played Alex Marshall, the character whose death by suicide brings a group of college friends back together for a fall weekend in South Carolina. Though Kasdan shot flashbacks featuring Costner, he ultimately cut them out of the movie, which became a Baby Boomer favorite.
Costner's bid for movie stardom officially began in 1985, with lead roles in Kevin Reynolds' "Fandango" (another Boomer nostalgia piece) and John Badham's "American Flyers." He also landed a flashy supporting role in Lawrence Kasdan's Western throwback, "Silverado." The first two films not only bombed, they barely received a theatrical release, while Kasdan's movie performed well below the studio's commercial expectations.

Maybe Netflix saved the best of its festival debuts for last. After receiving mixed responses to “Bardo” and “White Noise” at Venice, the streamer was blessed with some of the most effusive reactions of the year so far for “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.” The Rian Johnson mystery-comedy debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival on Saturday night.
“Yes, ‘Glass Onion’ is as good as ‘Knives Out,’ if not better – another very funny, supremely well-written murder-mystery w/ twists & turns galore. I could watch Daniel Craig play Benoit Blanc forever. Also Big shout out to Janelle Monáe, the film’s all-star without a doubt,” Fandango’s Erik Davis wrote.
“‘Glass Onion’ is even better than the original ‘Knives Out.’ Can [Rian Johnson] slow down and give everyone else a chance??!” wrote Vanity Fair’s Michael Hogan.

Variety has been given exclusive access to a first-look clip for “Amanda,” Carolina Cavalli’s quirky Italian-cool film in Venice Horizons, starring Benedetta Porcaroli (star of Netflix series “Baby”), and featuring Italian heavyweight Giovanna Mezzogiorno, and Italian “X-Factor” winner Michele Bravi.
The film, which is reminiscent of early Wes Anderson, premieres at Venice on Monday, then goes to Toronto – it’s the only Italian film to play both fests this year. Charades is handling international sales. I Wonder is distributing in Italy.
The film centers on Amanda, 24, who lives mostly isolated and has never had any friends, even if it’s the thing she wants the most. When she discovers that as toddlers her and Rebecca used to spend a lot of time together, Amanda chooses her new mission: to convince her that they are still best friends.

Casting movie stars can be a tricky proposition, especially if you're making a big-budget film with unproven talent. In 1987, that's exactly what Kevin Costner was. He'd appeared in three box-office bombs in 1985, and, prior to this, had been cut out of Lawrence Kasdan's Baby Boomer smash "The Big Chill." But after missing out on the more established Don Johnson (who was red hot at the time thanks to "Miami Vice"), Costner wound up being Brian De Palma's Eliot Ness in the hit-hungry director's big-screen rendition of "The Untouchables." And while De Palma had a bit of movie star insurance in Sean Connery as the veteran beat cop Malone, David Mamet's masterful screenplay screamed for a larger-than-life Al Capone.
De Palma only had eyes for Robert De Niro, and he had a history with the actor, having worked with him in the counterculture comedies "Greetings" and "Hi, Mom!

Paris-based company Kinology has secured international sales to “Il Sol Dell’Avvenire,” from Italian auteur and Cannes regular Nanni Moretti. Pic is currently shooting in Rome.
The deal between Kinology and Domenico Procacci’s Fandango, which is producing in tandem with Moretti’s Sacher shingle and Rai Cinema, marks the first time Kinology has handled a Moretti pic.
Kinology, which is headed by Grégoire Melin, will be launching pre-sales on “Il Sol” in Cannes.
Moretti’s latest work has been described by the director as both an unconventional comedy and a period piece set in Rome between the 1950s and the 1970s amid the city’s circus world, but also involving the world of cinema.
Though that is quite vague, what’s clear is that Moretti seems keen to shift gears, moving into lighter fare following his ensemble melodrama “Three Floors,” which was in Cannes last year.
