Hey everyone! We have a busy week of home media releases on tap, so let’s go ahead and just dive right into everything. Two of my favorite films of 2021—Julia Ducournau’s Titane and Edgar Wright’s Last Night in Soho—are both coming home on Tuesday and I cannot recommend them enough. For those of you with little monsters, The Addams Family 2 is making its way onto various formats, and if you’re a franchise completist, Candyman: Day of the Dead is getting the Vestron Video Collector’s Series treatment this week as well.
We also have a bunch of Italian horror movies arriving on Tuesday, including Mario Bava’s Shock, plus The Stendhal Syndrome and Deep Red from Dario Argento. Blue Underground is showing some love to The Toolbox Murders with their 4K release of the film, and Rlje Films is set to release An Unquiet Grave on DVD,...

“Listen, dink. Muskie fishing is mean and violent, and it makes you do crazy things.”
Those are the words of Finner (Christopher Whiting), one of the characters in James Mallon’s offbeat, fishing-themed slasher Blood Hook. And before the film is over, Finner will know that those words are much truer than he ever thought.
The 1986 horror/comedy, released by Troma Entertainment, is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year. But even after a lavish Blu-ray/DVD release from Vinegar Syndrome, Blood Hook still hasn’t gotten the appreciation it deserves. Instead, it sits with an insulting 4.3 rating on IMDb.
Admittedly, Blood Hook isn’t as polished as more appreciated gems of the ‘80s slasher era, such as The Mutilator, Blood Rage, The Burning, or Madman. It’s an absurd movie where the killer uses an oversized fishing lure that’s nearly the size of a missile to take out his victims.

One of Daily Dead's favorite experiences at Fantasia Fest this summer was attending prolific horror journalist Michael Gingold's presentation for his new book, Ad Nauseam: Newsprint Nightmares from the 1980s. A love letter to the heyday of ’80s horror, Ad Nauseam collects more than 450 print ads for horror movies, as well as vintage reviews and Gingold's always insightful commentary on both the genre and the way it was advertised in the ’80s. And if you didn't make it to Gingold's Fantasia presentation this summer, you can keep an eye out for the book this October from 1984 Publishing!
Coming out on October 9th, Ad Nauseam: Newsprint Nightmares from the 1980s can now be pre-ordered as a signed hardcover on 1984 Publishing's website and as a standard hardcover on Amazon.

Lloyd Kaufman is the Rodney Dangerfield of low-budget, B-level horror movies. He gets no respect. Even Roger Corman, who is notorious for cranking out genre films for profit since the 1950s, has respect of his Hollywood peers. But in Corman’s shadow is Kaufman’s exploitation studio Troma, which has been generating marginal and low-quality entertainment for years…almost 40 years, to be exact. Troma began in 1974 as a joint venture between Kaufman and his buddy from Yale, Michael Hertz. Over the years, the studio has pulled their own fair share of Cormans by featuring would-be stars in their earliest roles, including Kevin Costner in Sizzle Beach U.S.A., Billy Bob Thornton in Chopper Chicks in Zombietown, and the comedy team of Trey Parker and Matt Stone with Cannibal: The Musical. In 1985, Troma broke out with their tongue-in-cheek success The Toxic Avenger, a low-budget hit that spawned three sequels and gave Troma its poster boy for its...

Fishing was never like this! So reads the tagline for Tromas Blood Hook. You got that right. Blood Hook, or as the film crew persistently referred to as Muskie Madness, weaves the bloodily incredulous tale of an offscreen murdering maniac who casts an obnoxiously bulbous treble hook in the paths of unsuspecting fishermen, sunbathers, water bathers, toddlers well, just about anybody, so long as the paths belong to folks as oblivious and slo…...

So, from the annals of the horror genre, here are our Top 10 Spring Break destinations to avoid if the desire if to make it back home alive.
10. Muskie Madness Fishing Tournament from Blood Hook
Nothing says "vacation" to some more than kicking back with a ice cold beer and waiting for the bobber on the fishing pole line to disappear underwater. Fishing is almost as American of a pastime as baseball, and each year during spring break week,...
