Good actors, a good start, but doesn't quite make it to the end

John Waters was one of Australia's best actors of the 1980s and is quite convincing as Martin Brown, a mining man who tires of life and heads out of town to try to find something better. Martin has both a pretentious wife, Judy Morris, and a besotted secretary, Linda Cropper, but neither are quite on his wavelength, particularly when he decides to toss it all in and 'find himself'. Fortunately he avoids a nutty Welshman and his randy wife, and finds a nice middle-class young woman, Kate Raison looking for an older man to settle down with on her family farm, and in need someone to help fight off the attentions of Martin's mining company. The film is quite interesting in the beginning (and reminiscent of the award-winning Bliss which was made at the same time), but gets a bit dull and silly towards the end.
