- TriviaAfter the release of K-PAX (2001), based on Gene Brewer's 1996 novel, "Southeast" director Eliseo Subiela sued Brewer, claiming plagiarism from this film. He lacked the funds to pursue his claim, and soon dropped the matter.
- GoofsRantes explains that he faces a certain direction and looks towards the sky -- said to be to the southeast -- to receive communications from his home planet, and it's also said that he does this for hours at a time. However, although he remains fixed and will still be facing southeast relative to earth, over time his focus on the sky will move as the earth rotates. He would have to change his position slightly, equal and opposite to the earth's rotation, to remain focused directly on his home planet.

A truly unusual film
This is a film crying out for DVD release (unavailable on any format at the time of writing). One of those gems of movies that appear on TV every so often in the early hours, this story of a mental patient who may or may not be an alien visitor manages to charm whilst side-stepping Sci-Fi cliché.
Although similar in subject matter to films such as Terry Gilliam's excellent "The Fisher King", this is equally successful in it's own, subtler way. An excellent film, worth staying up late for should you ever see it materialize in the TV listings.
