John Cusack is credited as "Angry Messenger". During the staff firings, a young man yells "sons-a bitches!" and angrily throws a messenger bag to the office floor. We don't see the character's face, but the voice sounds like Cusack's.

Errores:

Errores cometidos por los personajes (posiblemente errores deliberados por los cineastas): When Aaron and Tom are talking at the party, Tom claims that he would never pretend to know more than he really did. A few moments later Aaron shows him up as a fraud when he asks if Tom can name all the members of the President's cabinet. When Tom claims to know all the names, Aaron asks him "All twelve?". When Tom answers yes, Aaron delivers the 'gotcha' comeback "There's only ten." In fact there were 13 cabinet secretaries at the time the movie was made (the secretaries of State, Treasury, Defense, Interior, Agriculture, Commerce, Labor, Health & Human Services, Housing & Urban Development, Transportation, Energy, and Education, and the Attorney General). Since the film's release, two more secretaries have been added (Veteran's Affairs and Homeland Security).

My brief review of the film

Although significantly overlong, the film's content stands up quite well for the most part, with an interesting and informative insight into television news broadcasting and great characters. James L. Brooks has created three bubbly, fascinating and very human characters, and it is interesting to follow them around and monitor the love triangle relationship that exists between them. The actress and actors selected to play these characters are superb choices, although William Hurt and Albert Brooks do more with their roles than Holly Hunter. The film is however not without its share of drawbacks, even if the overall picture still works well. It bridges on the edge of being conventional romantic comedy, and the maudlin music choices are no help. It is also a bit over-the-top at times, and in particular Joan Cusack overplays her part. The main problem though is the ending, which does not wrap up the tale in a very satisfying manner. With solid acting and excellent characters, the film can be enjoyed despite any possible imperfections for the most part, and some of the office and studio sequences are quite exciting and intense, in the spirit of news races against time. Nominated for the 1987 Best Picture Oscar, it is certainly one of the best films of the year.
