Barbra Streisand is looking to make the final scene in The Tattooist of Auschwitz memorable and poignant as the credits roll after recording a new song, “Love Will Survive,” for the Peacock and Sky original drama.
Marking her first ever recording for a TV series, Streisand has performed the end title anthem for the series about two young Jewish prisoners in the Nazi concentration camp who fall in love and commit themselves to survive the Holocaust together.
Hans Zimmer and Kara Talve composed the original song for the limited series that stars Harvey Keitel, Melanie Lynskey, Jonah Hauer-King, Anna Próchniak and Jonas Nay, and which Streisand recorded to in part recall the memory of the Holocaust and the specter of antisemitism resurfacing again.

The Harry Potter and Bridget Jones star is a dazzlingly versatile performer, with a string of Michael Winterbottom films under her belt, as well as Star Wars, TV’s Happy Valley and an Olivier award. She explains how she keeps on top of it all
It is easy to feel protective of Shirley Henderson on this gloomy winter afternoon. Is she warm enough? Does she want to put the heating on? “Aye, I’m Ok,” she says from her home in Fife, a few strands of chestnut hair falling over her glasses as she huddles close to the laptop. “It’s a wee bit blowy out. But I’m at the age where you can get too warm, so I’m all right.” Her giggle is helium-high: the sort of sound you want to trap, like in one of those toy moo boxes, so that you can play it when...

While those are all tough movie cops, none of them are as hard as nails was perhaps the toughest, most dangerous movie cop of all time… Frank Drebin as played by Leslie Nielsen in The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!
Jump back to 1980. Leslie Nielsen was a character actor known for playing deadpan, ultra-serious roles. He was typically the bad guy of the week on TV shows and TV movies, and his biggest claim to fame was playing the captain in 1956s Forbidden Planet. His career was middling; David Zucker, Jim Abrams and Jerry Zucker, aka Zaz – Zucker-Abrams-Zucker – wanted to cast him in their movie Airplane. He would play the third lead, a deadpan doctor who would perfectly ape similar roles he played in movies like The Poseidon Adventure. While the studio initially balked,...

In an exclusive clip of this Monday’s episode shared with TheWrap, host Jaime Camil walks contestant April through selecting a number on the lotería board that will help her chances to score a lotería, while avoiding helping her opponent get the chance to win the $1 million prize.
“Alright April, your turn to give me a number — think about a good number that will give you that car — el coche — because that will give you, April, your first Lotería,” Camil said in the clip. “However, you need to stay away from el arcoiris — the rainbow — because that will give Sairy her second lotería and she will move on to play for $1 million.”

Plot: Dolores Roach is released after an unjust 16-year prison sentence, and she returns to a now-gentrified Washington Heights neighborhood. She reunites with an old stoner friend, Luis, who lets her live and work as a masseuse in the basement under his empanada shop. When the promise of her newfound stability is threatened, she must go to extremes to survive.
Review: It is tough to say whether the golden age of television is thriving or ending. With the streaming wars imploding, the depth and breadth of content on the small screen has never been bigger. But, with dozens upon dozens of series, many’s quality seems questionable. The latest series to debut is The Horror of Dolores Roach. A co-production between Amazon Studios and Blumhouse, The Horror of Dolores Roach is an adaptation of the hit podcast of the same name, which, in turn, was an adaptation of a stage play.

Investigating the nature of altruism, director Penny Lane turns the camera on herself in Confessions of a Good Samaritan, showing her process as an organ donor navigating the uncomfortable space of “gifting” a part of your body to a stranger. Single, in her early 40s, and financially secure after a decade of building her career, she decides its time to give back to the universe as a way of saying thank you for life ultimately working out.
For Lane, this is a rare work to proceed in a fairly straightforward manner. Extensive self-interviews frame her donation, which was made before Covid disrupted every industry, and Confessions unpacks the history of donations, including a 1984 decree that outlawed the exchange of money or anything of value for a body part. Though most donations are made to family members in need, online exchanges––similar to a dating website––are an option for those...

Ask the British national treasure – star of Mike Leigh films aplenty, as well as countless TV and stage roles – about any of her brilliant performances by 6pm Sunday
How long can you be a national treasure for? Alison Steadman arguably holds some sort of record: ever since her breakthrough performance in the TV version of Abigail’s Party, back in 1977, she’s been a brilliant, comforting, spiky staple of British screen and stage.
Her collaborations with ex-husband Mike Leigh (she was pregnant with their first son shooting Abigail’s Party) are what defined her early career in the public consciousness. Life is Sweet, Hard Labour, Nuts in May; later the likes of Topsy-Turvy.

Danny Dyer has discussed his controversial column in Zoo magazine, in which he gave such abhorrent dating advice that he was fired from his role as agony uncle.
In 2010, the former EastEnders star was sacked from the publication – which closed in 2015 – for advising a man who couldn’t get over his ex-girlfriend to “cut his ex’s face, then no one will want her”.
There was uproar over the piece at the time, which was ghost-written by a journalist who Dyer was dictating to over the phone, and it has tarnished Dyer’s reputation.
Speaking in a new interview with The Times Magazine, Dyer said: “People still hate me for that.”
He continued: “The line is a quote from a film I’d done, but the idea I would advise someone to do it repulsed me. It was a joke. I don’t know why the editor or sub-editor thought it Ok to print that.

RespectAbility will have a heavy presence at Sundance this year, with a lineup of virtual panels and discussions, all on digital Main Street.
The disability advocacy group is presenting five conversations under the umbrella title the Accessibility & Inclusion Lab; two of the events are in collaboration with Film Independent.
A goal is to encourage authentic representation of disabled people on screen, and to help change how audiences view people with disabilities. Another goal is to give filmmakers the tools to make films more accessible, both for disabled crew members and for audiences.
According to Nielsen, the disability market influences more than a trillion dollars in disposable income. However, with one-in-five people in the U.S. having a disability, there is a startling lack of representation – just 2.3% of characters in the 100 top-grossing films of 2019 and 8% in family films.

Sargent won adapted screenplay Oscars for “Julia” in 1978 and “Ordinary People” in 1981 and was also nominated in the category in 1974 for “Paper Moon.” (He also received Writers Guild awards for all three films.) A fourth feature docu film in a half dozen years, Penny Lane‘s delves into The Satanic Temple from an inquisitive, business start-up angle with Hail Satan?. Featuring an eloquent speaker, spokesman and excellent selfie taker in Lucien Greaves, this clearly and cleverly illustrates that the baby-step process of moving past basements with Dungeons & Dragons to a legit enterprise comes with all the organizational quirks, joys and difficulties you’d expect. Exploratory in nature and jovial in tone, Hail Satan? looks at folks (the majority are dressed in black) who are challenging the status quo (especially from a jurisprudential stance) and to be quite frank, are adhering to principles, beliefs and value systems that are closer to the populous than any Charlton Heston memorabilia could do.…...

For many, the Satanic Temple only enters their radar when they make headlines, whether it is suing the producers of Sabrina for using the likeness of their deity or putting their stamp of approval on The Witch. At Sundance this year, one dove much deeper into the religious movement with a new documentary from Penny Lane, the filmmaker behind The Pain of Others, Nuts!, Our Nixon, and more. Ahead of an April release, the first trailer has now arrived.
Jake Howell said in our review, “Amusingly, Penny Lane’s documentary Hail Satan? is interested in clarifying one critical misconception about the Satanic Temple: its members don’t, in fact, worship the Devil at all. Rather, the organization—or religion, as they’d prefer to be called—is, essentially, an ultimately altruistic group of people, typically self-proclaimed misfits, who wish to highlight the double standards of the so-called separation of church...

Lots of musicians have found success on the big screen, bagging some hardware for their efforts to boot. So Lady Gaga wouldn’t be the first singer to win a Golden Globe for acting if she takes home the Best Film Drama Actress prize for “A Star Is Born” — but she would be in that category.
Several performers who first achieved stardom and established themselves as singers have been nominated for Best Film Drama Actress, but none have won. They include Doris Day, Diana Ross, Barbra Streisand, Cher, Courtney Love and Bjork.

This article marks Part 7 of the 21-part Gold Derby series analyzing Meryl Streep at the Oscars. Join us as we look back at Meryl Streep’s nominations, the performances that competed with her, the results of each race and the overall rankings of the contenders.
On paper, “Heartburn” (1986) had the sound of a surefire smash. The picture reunited the talented trio from “Silkwood” (1983) – leading lady Meryl Streep, director Mike Nichols and screenwriter Nora Ephron. Production on the film hit a snag early on, as Nichols, seeing no magic between he and Streep, fired leading man Mandy Patinkin after mere days of shooting. Things would presumably still be A-ok, however, if not better, considering Patinkin’s replacement was none other than Jack Nicholson, hot as ever with his Academy Awards victory for “Terms of Endearment” (1983) and success the year prior with “Prizzi’s Honor” (1985).

“The Guts, Gags and Glory of a Lot of Wonderful Guys!”
— say, what kind of movie is this, anyway?
Action movies about combat are now mostly about soldiers that fight like killing machines, or stories of battle with a strong political axe to grind. WW2 changed perceptions completely, when a mostly civilian army did the fighting. With the cessation of hostilities combat pictures tapered off quickly, and Hollywood gave the subject a break for several years.

98 years old. Remarkable. I can't imagine making it to 98. I can't imagine the breadth of life experience you could have in that amount of time. Eli Wallach leaves behind a truly great filmography and a family life that is enviable, having been married to the same woman, Anne Jackson, since 1948. She had a hell of a filmography herself, and they had three children together. I am in awe of anyone who can build a life that solid for that long, never mind someone who works in the film industry, where relationships are, at best, impermanent, and at worst, inconsequential. Wallach will leave an amazing legacy onscreen, but he was part of something larger, a total shift in the way acting was approached, and telling his story is telling the story of that paradigm change. He was part of that first wave of Method actors who made the jump from their...

Another week, another round of 12 talents battling it out for a place in the semi-finals on ‘America’s Got Talent.’ The stakes continue to get higher every week, and the competition was flying high (literally) on the July 30 episode.
America’s Got Talent is making itself quite at home at Radio City Music Hall. The July 30 live episode featured another set of 12 amazing talents trying to earn votes for a spot in the semi-finals. HollywoodLife.com picked our five favorites from the episode — and it’s a diverse group of talent, to say the least.
Top 5 Performances From July 30
5. Ciana Pelekai
This 12-year-old singer from Hawaii is just about the cutest thing we’ve ever seen. Ciana has big dreams of being like Beyonce and Christina Aguilera and she’s got the voice to prove it. She was understandably nervous in her first performance at Radio City Music Hall, but...

It's Reader Appreciation Month so I'm playing Santa with gifts.
I'm so sorry I didn't announce this sooner! I do get backed up here. I know those of you who entered the Les Miz contest are dying to just buy the new blu-ray/dvd combo pack if you didn't win. This contest had a great response. I asked interested Red & Black revolutionaries to answer three questions:
• Which kind of bread would you bake Valjean so he doesn't steal another loaf?
• Which movie hooker other than Fantine should've had a death bed song?
• Bring Him Home: Jackman, Redmayne, Tveit or Crowe?
I had much fun reading the often creative answers. But the three winners, chosen randomly, are...

Bread: Pain de campagne, which I hope Hugh will stick around to enjoy as pain perdu. Hooker: Mildred, from Of Human Bondage....Bette Davis croaking it out as she croaks.

We've all got to do our part to help with the Scotus situation today, kids. I know I'm doing mine: Here are eight fabulous female performanes in courtroom movies to inspire you for the day ahead. Even if they drive younuts, you still qualify to look glamorously insane like Frances Farmer.
1. Meryl Streep in Kramer vs. Kramer
Joanna Kramer ditched her family not because she was bored of parenting (which I would've completely understood), but because her despair was so significant that she felt it best to remove herself from the home she shared with her obnoxious husband and tolerable son. Later, when she wanted custody of the scamp, she delivered a tearful monologue about painting clouds on bedroom walls and the misery of the Kramer household, concluding with the defiant line, "I am his mother." Meryl famously wrote most of this great soliloquy, and knowing Meryl's talents, she probably also sewed her own costume,...
