Star Trek Into Darkness was a good film. Maybe not as good as its predecessor, but I enjoyed it. I enjoyed it a lot. Though it does make me think, was it Star Trek anymore? In my opinion, that’s the biggest issue with Star Trek at the movies. It loses the science and exploration of the original premise. Perhaps only Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan, great action sequences aside, succeeds with the Genesis planet storyline out of all the films in Trek cannon.
And I understand why Star Trek films have to be different. They have to be action packed, with over-the-top villains, great drama and a threat credible enough to make you believe the crew of the Enterprise (original or Next Generation) may not survive. They have to be something closer to Star Wars to appeal to a larger audience. What id does allow is for us...

A short while ago we reported that Sony wanted to continue their Men In Black series with a third installment that would bring back at the very least Will Smith as the incomparable Agent J. Now we are getting more info on the return of Agent K but playing him may not be who you think.
The Los Angeles Times is reporting that Josh Brolin may be heading to Columbia Pictures’ Men in Black 3:
“His exact part is a matter of discussion, but in recent days there’s been chatter in Hollywood development circles of a few possibilities: He could play a new single-monikered government agent, with Tommy Lee Jones’ Agent K passing the baton to Brolin’s character. Or he could play Agent K as a young man. Or something else entirely.”
Will Smith is set to return for the third installment, written by Etan Cohen. No word...

Say what you want about Top Gun and Tom Cruise, blah, blah. Top Gun was like no other movie before or really since in its accurate and realistic portrayal of aerial combat. In fact one of my uncles’ Navy buddies was one of the head stunt pilots for that film and his one of the mission commanders fixing the Hubble Telescope in space.
THR has reported that Tmu Pictures is developing a Michael B. Chait directed action-adventure film called War Birds, the story of an Air Force veteran-turned-reckless airshow re-enactment pilot who is then pulled into the underground culture of illegal, real-life aerial combat.
What’s even cooler is that in this world of CGI reliance this movie plans to use real airplanes and aerial sequences, including authentic P-51 Mustangs, P-38 Lightnings, F4U Corsairs and a B-17 Flying Fortress as well as modern military helicopters and jets.

Normally, the way these things go is story first, video second. However, I would like to try an experiment of sorts. So, with that said, please watch the video below first, which is test footage for a new action film titled War Birds. Then check out the story about the film after the jump!

The official website has released test footage from Michael B. Chait’s first feature attempt in the form of the movie War Birds. From the footage (which I’ve embedded below) it looks like we can expect to see a Top Gun style movie based in an around the Us Airforce in the Second World War with Michael Bay style explosions recently seen on the Victoria Secrets ad!
The website gives us literally no other information on the movie but fortunately, or friend Alex over at FirstShowing.net knows a lot more than we do about the movie:
FirstShowing.net: The story follows an Air Force veteran-turned-reckless airshow re-enactment pilot who gets pulled into the world of illegal aerial combat. Shooting is scheduled for next summer in Michigan using real airplanes and aerial sequences. War Birds will be directed by first-time filmmaker Michael Chait. I'm surprised this isn't directed by Michael Bay! I just stumbled across a 2-minute video of test footage for the movie War Birds. We just wrote about War Birds yesterday, as they've received the go ahead from Tmu Pictures to head into production. It's about the underground culture of illegal, real-life aerial combat using "old school" dogfighting planes. I was expecting it to look cool, but this video (found on the official website) is hands down awesome - it gets pretty badass at about 40 seconds. I can't wait to see this turned in to a feature-length film. Watch this footage with the volume up and I guarantee you'll have a frickin' blast! War Birds, the unironic tale of a secret underground aerial combat society, is officially my new favorite upcoming project, due to the sheer ridiculousness of its concept. I reported on its inception yesterday, but now I actually have test footage of the film to show you. It seems the premise of the movies is .War reenacters go way, way too far,. as a group of people apparently decided war these days was too boring, with all the IEDs and Jdam missile strikes, and they wanted to get back to...

On Monday we told you about a new action-adventure film entitled War Birds, from first time director Michael Chait. J. Todd Harris, who served as a producer on Bottle Shock, along with Tron Legacy screenwriter Richard Jefferies, are reportedly polishing the script, and, along with Chait, will also produce the film for Michigan-based Tmu Pictures.
Since then, three minutes of test footage for the film have been released on the official site. It's pretty rough footage, without any sort of story, but it's also real airplanes sans CG (so far). Even Michael Bay ought to be impressed with that. To check out the footage, click on the Video tab above.

What the hell? I mean, I guess this is a semi-original idea, in that it hasn't, to my knowledge, been done before, but...
Ok, so here it is: Tmu Pictures has tapped Michael Chait to direct his script of War Birds, which is described as being about "an Air Force veteran-turned-reckless airshow re-enactment pilot as he gets pulled into the underground culture of illegal, real-life aerial combat."
::scratches head::
So ... I ... does ... I guess.
Is this like The Fast And The Furious with planes? Will someone deliver the line "I live my life a quarter mach at a time"? Will Vin Diesel be involved? Doesn't he almost have to be? How exactly does one get involved with, not to mention get away with, an underground aerial combat circuit? It seems that the outcome would frequently be one person dying, so ... how many bouts could there possibly be? This doesn't actually exist,...

I love reading a plot description for an upcoming project that just stops me dead in my tracks. Here I am scanning casually through my RSS feeds when I come across this bombshell of a plot for War Birds at The Hollywood Reporter:
"Birds follows an Air Force veteran-turned-reckless airshow re-enactment pilot as he gets pulled into the underground culture of illegal, real-life aerial combat. Shooting is scheduled for the summer in Michigan using all real airplanes and aerial sequences, including authentic P-51 Mustangs, P-38 Lightnings, F4U Corsairs and a B-17 Flying Fortress as well as modern military helicopters and jets."
Yes, you read that correctly. War Birds, which will be directed by a one Michael Chait, is like Top Gun meets The Fast and the Furious. Or Fighting meets Stealth. Or Step up to the Streets 2 meets Hell's Angels. I don't know, there are too many variables there...

Imagine the story of an Air Force veteran-turned-reckless airshow re-enactment pilot who gets pulled into an underground world of illegal, real-life aerial combat. Now imagine that writer/director Michael Chait (who just sold this story of Tmu Pictures, according to THR) is a little more David Fincher than he is Rob Cohen, delivering a movie that is less Fast and Furious and more Fight Club (with planes). That, my friends, is a sweet deal if I've ever heard one. War Birds is currently in the final scripting stages, with hopes of getting real airplanes and real aerial sequences on camera sometime in the summer, including the use of authentic P-51 Mustangs, P-38 Lightnings, F4U Corsairs and a B-17 Flying Fortress as well as modern military helicopters and jets. Shooting will take place in Michigan. Forgive me if I'm more than a little excited about this concept, as it really does smell like a winner. Execution...

It's like Fast and the Furious, except in the sky with airplanes.
War Birds is the title of this new movie project, a tale about the underground sport of pilots that take to the sky and engage in real-life combat. Say what? This is real? Who exactly is doing this sort of thing? Ah, it doesn't matter; it's a hook for a movie. Just one person needs to have done it for Hollywood to say that it's based on a true story.
Tmu Pictures is the outfit charged with making this one a go project. Directing will be Michael Chait. The script by Josh Staman and Bryan Binder is receiving a rewrite from J. Todd Harris (Bottle Shock) and Richard Jefferies (Tron: Legacy).
"I love big, exciting, action-adventure movies, especially when they are shot live, in camera," Chait told THR about his movie. "Growing up the son of an artist and a pilot,...

Fast and Furious may have done pretty well, but movies set in the culture of illegal street racing are passe. (Note, please that I use the term 'culture' there with the heaviest possible dose of mocking irony.) It's time to push the envelope a bit. I can almost hear the pitch for War Birds in my head: it's like The Fast and the Furious, with airplanes. THR reports on the film, which is about "an Air Force veteran-turned-reckless airshow re-enactment pilot as he gets pulled into the underground culture of illegal, real-life aerial combat." Current plans for the film include shooting with real planes (P-51 Mustangs, P-38 Lightnings, F4U Corsairs and a B-17 Flying Fortress, plus modern military helicopters and planes) and doing as much of the action in-camera as possible. All sounds like a good idea, but who's behind it? Directing and producing is Michael Chait, who as...

So we have Battleship, the board game-turned-naval/alien combat motion picture coming down the road. But how about looking up in the sky instead? War Birds aims to do just that, and already has a head start on Battleship due to its non-association with a Mattel product and the fact there don’t appear to be any aliens in sight. But as it turns out, the actual plot is pretty Wtf anyway. "Birds" follows an Air Force veteran-turned-reckless airshow re-enactment pilot as he...

Never since Top Gun has a film captured the pure adrenaline rush and intensity of fighter jet air combat. Sure sequences in films like Pearl Harbor and Independence Day have been fantastic in themselves, but an entire film has never come close to director Tony Scott's energy rush in the sky. That might all change as THR reports Tmu Pictures is moving forward with a Michael Chait directed action-adventure film War Birds, the story of an Air Force veteran-turned-reckless airshow re-enactment pilot as he gets pulled into the underground culture of illegal, real-life aerial combat. It's like The Fast and the Furious but with jets! The script was written by Josh Staman and Bryan Binder but writers J. Aircraft enthusiasts, take note: War Birds, a new action-adventure film featuring real aircraft and aerial stunts, is about to take flight. It will mark the debut feature of Michael Chait, who also wrote the story.
J. Todd Harris, one of the producers of the 2008 wine documentary Bottle Shock, and Tron Legacy screenwriter Richard Jefferies will polish up the script, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Along with Chait, they will produce the film for Michigan-based Tmu Pictures.
War Birds will revolve around an airman-turned-airshow re-enactment pilot pulled into the underground world of illegal, dangerous real-life aerial combat. Along with modern military helicopters and jets, the air sequences will be shot using authentic P-51 Mustangs, P-38 Lightnings, F4U Corsairs and a B-17 Flying Fortress. Shooting is scheduled to begin next summer in Michigan, with Titanic cinematographer Russell Carpenter serving as visual consultant.

Welcome to Flight Club. Yes, production is moving forward on War Birds, the tale of an underground culture of illegal aerial combat. Huh. You wouldn't think they could find many cellars big enough for the planes. But seriously, folks, the story (by Michael B. Chait, who's also directing and producing) focuses on a former Air Force pilot who becomes an airshow re-enactment pilot after leaving the service, and despite his recklessness. Then he gets pulled into "the underground culture of illegal, real-life aerial combat". We'd never heard of such a thing around here, but if it's in a movie it must exist, right?Shooting is due to take place in Michigan this summer, using real planes including "P-51 Mustangs, P-38 Lightnings, F4U Corsairs and a B-17 Flying Fortress" - which does kinda make it sound awesome. We'd have thought those'd be too big to keep particularly under wraps, but...
