The picture won two AFI (Australian Film Institute) Awards, Best Actor in a Lead Role for Max von Sydow and Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Julia Blake.
The film was also entered into competition at the 17th Moscow International Film Festival in 1991 and was nominated for the Golden St. George Award.
Publicity for this picture declared that the number of dead bodies see during the Holocaust sequence at the start of the movie totaled to 120 corpses.
