Sex & Nudity

  • There are many scenes that show native women topless. One quite long scene shows a women lying naked in a tomb, and the camera pans up and down her body.

Violence & Gore

  • There is a lot of violence and gore in this film. We see many dead corpses, often bloody or disfigured throughout the film. The explorers find a severed head in a crate. A man has a bloody eye wound. We see men shot to death with arrows. Many detailed references are made to cannibalism, including a man who tells about how he had to eat another person.

Profanity

  • There is a good amount of profanity in this film, which is surprising. It is in spanish with subtitles. I highly doubt the usage of these words is accurate, but they are used many times.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The whole film is very unsettling and confusing. From the start the main characters are starving, sick, and being attacked and enslaved by natives. It doesn't help that the plot is confusing and dream-like, which adds to the intensity of the film. Overall, this is not a film for children, even middle school aged. It is violent and disturbing.
