Unsolved creator Kyle Long has signed an overall deal with Universal Cable Productions, the studio behind the critically praised USA Network series, to develop and produce premium scripted content for cable and streamers.
The first potential series developed under the deal will be an adaptation of Kris Radish’s book Run, Bambi Run, with Long set to write and executive produce. The book follows the true story of Lawrencia “Bambi” Bembenek, a former Milwaukee police officer, who was suing the department for sexual discrimination when she was arrested and eventually convicted for murdering her husband’s ex-wife. Bembenek insisted she was railroaded and after breaking out of prison became a national folk hero, inspiring the slogan “Run, Bambi, Run.”
“Working with Ucp on Unsolved was the type of experience a writer dreams of,” said Long. “I’m thrilled to cement the relationship with Run Bambi Run, a project I am...

Since the 2018 Grammy nominations were announced last November we’ve had more than 1,900 users make their predictions in 32 categories here at Gold Derby, and according to our collective forecasts it’s going to be a big night for Kendrick Lamar when trophies are handed out on Sunday, January 28. Not just big — historic.
Lamar is the second most nominated artist of the year with seven, and he’s projected to win six of those. That would not only be the most awards won by a single artist this year, it would be one of the biggest hauls for any artist in a single year. He would tie for third place on the list of the most awarded artists in a single evening. Also with six trophies were Roger Miller (1966), Toto (1983), Quincy Jones (1991), Eric Clapton (1993), Beyonce (2010), and Adele (2012). That would put Lamar just two wins behind the all-time record-holders, Michael Jackson (1984) and...

The 2017 Grammy for Best Rock Performance was awarded posthumously to David Bowie for “Blackstar.” In 2018 it looks like there will be another posthumous winner in the very same category, There are two artists in contention who died before these nominations were announced, and according to our latest predictions one of them will win: Leonard Cohen or Chris Cornell.
Cohen died in November 2016 at age 82, but not before releasing his 14th and final album, “You Want it Darker.” He’s up for Best Rock Performance for the title track, and he gets leading odds of 8/13 to prevail. Those odds are based on the combined forecasts of more than 1,800 users who have entered their picks in our predictions center so far. That includes seven Expert journalists from top media outlets, and four of them are betting on Cohen: Glenn Gamboa (Newsday), Tom O’Neil (Gold Derby), Peter Travers (Rolling Stone), and Chris Willman...

Need to catch up? Check out the previous Nashville recap here.
Juliette does a mean, lowdown, plain-old bitchy thing in this week’s Nashville and, I swear on Dolly Parton’s storied wig collection, it could not come at a better time for the Cmt drama.
What better to pull us out of our post-Rayna grief haze than Music City’s other diva extraordinaire making a painfully on-brand return to form? With all of the feeeeeeelings that have been making the rounds since Big Red’s unexpected trip to the Grandest Ole Opry of All, it feels kinda refreshing to see Ms.

Exclusive: $13m project from Salon Pictures will chart story of soldier who suffered severe burns during the Falklands War; Embankment to sell.
The story of Simon Weston, the British army veteran who endured severe burns during the Falklands War, is to be told in an ambitious new film which has Jonathan Teplitzky (The Railway Man) attached to direct.
Salon Pictures is producing the feature.
Weston came back from the brink of death to rebuild his life. He wrote best-selling autobiographies, campaigned tirelessly for charity and is regarded by many as a symbol of Britain’s war in the Falklands.
During the Falklands War in 1982 Weston was a young soldier on the ship Rfa Sir Galahad when an Argentine Skyhawk dropped a 500lb bomb, killing most of his platoon. His fight for survival and recovery took him to a dark abyss.
Teplitzky will direct from a screenplay by Alex Von Tunzelmann (Churchill) with the picture due to shoot...

With Run The Series, The A.V. Club examines film franchises, studying how they change and evolve with each new installment.
Horror franchises come in two varieties: those based on existing properties (typically novels) and original creations (even if they’re not all that original in and of themselves). One that falls into the former category is the series that sprung from Gary Brandner’s The Howling, published in 1977 and billed as “A blood-chilling novel in the shocking tradition of Salem’s Lot” and “a terrifying tale of the occult” on the cover of its first paperback edition. Strange to think that a property that has become synonymous with werewolves, spawning eight movies in 35 years, was coy about their existence at the outset. But this was not the case when Brandner’s bestial creatures made the leap to the silver screen in 1981.

I admit it, I’m a sentimental old fart. I get choked up and maudlin very often, when I think of family and friends, a moment in time when I realized the tragedy life can bring to us, or the joy. I tear up at the movies regularly, or reading certain passages in books. But I never thought I would weep at the loss of a video system. If you read We Are Movie Geeks regularly you must be aware of the video revolution of the 1980s, when VHS players and recorders found a place in almost every home in America. I hope you recall the early days when VHS was neck and neck with Betamax, a technically better system. Remember the days of Mom and Pop video rental stores when almost anyone could open a store front, and with a collection of VHS tapes start making money? As one of the many,...

Fox has once again treated us all to another action packed episode of Gotham Stories. Picking up directly where last week’s installment left off, “Run, Penguin, Run!” does not give the characters involved – or the viewer, for that matter – a chance to catch their breath.
Featuring the voice talents of Robin Lord Taylor (Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin), Camren Bicondova (Selina Kyle/Cat), Nathan Darrow (Victor Fries), Ben McKenzie (Jim Gordon) and Donal Logue (Harvey Bullock), this is the third of five motion comics that bridge the gap between the first half of Gotham Season Two, “Rise of the Villains,” and the second half, “Wrath of the Villains.”
In this particular episode, Mr. Freeze does not give his relentless pursuit of Penguin a chance to thaw and seemingly does not care who gets caught in the crossfire. Luckily for Penguin, it seems that one of his henchmen had been able to survive,...

A review of tonight's "The Leftovers" coming up just as soon as I ask you something stupid... "Have you ever heard of someone being responsible for someone's Departure?" -Nora When "The Leftovers" replaced its original theme song this season with Iris DeMent's "Let the Mystery Be," it was the show's most explicit statement yet not to expect any kind of concrete explanations for the Sudden Departure. At the same time, season 2 opened with plenty of new mysteries about life in and around Jarden, with images like Jerry slaughtering a goat in the diner, or the woman posing for photos in her wedding gown, or Erika digging up the box with the bird all raising questions we probably shouldn't have expected the show to answer. Yet it has, to varying degrees. Two weeks ago, Patti told Kevin that Evie and her friends Departed, though there remains the very large question...

'A' Is Back
After Toby’s (Keegan Allen) house blows up due to a “gas leak,” the girls receive a message from A: “Did you miss me, bitches?” Toby, who went off to make sure none of his family members were in their house, is fine and confirms to Spencer (Troian Bellisario) that everyone, meaning Jenna (Tammin Sursok) and his parents, are safe. Why blow up Toby’s house when they were all gathered at Emily’s like sitting ducks? Caleb (Tyler Blackburn) tells Hanna (Ashley Benson) that he doesn’t know. On Wednesday, The Lone Ranger received multiple Razzie nominations, including the notorious Worst Picture nod. The next day, The Lone Ranger was nominated for an Oscar, for best makeup.
This isn’t the first movie to get nods from both ends of the spectrum. Since the Razzies first began back in 1981, 47 movies have been nominated for both “awards”– some even for the same exact person or song. Here’s a look at the club The Lone Ranger just joined:

Despite a remarkable volume of cliched, unmemorable or otherwise awful offerings, 2013 was actually a fairly solid year for horror – especially if your tastes veer off the beaten path. While most mainstream fare ranged from passable (Evil Dead) to abominable (Texas Chainsaw 3D), alternative fare flourished, not merely offering some great, unique entertainment but introducing or establishing talent that promises to become the genre’s next great generation of creators.
While few of the films included on the list ultimately made my overall Top Ten list for the year – good as they were, competition from other films was enviably steep in 2013 – those I chose stood out or distinguished themselves, in full or in part, for offering something original, interesting, or even just particularly effective. Meanwhile, a handful of other experiences or multi-media releases enhanced my appreciation for horror in the last 12 months, which if nothing else will give fans something to...

Ah, Valentine’s Day. We’ve officially entered the season of love, romance, and overpriced chocolate. Included in this eclectic list is everything from movies to manga, so you’re sure to find a new fandom flame or rekindle an old love. Enjoy!
Hannah’s Top 5
Picking only five romantic moments was a big challenge for me considering how many TV shows, movies, comics and books I am forever in love with. But I’ve narrowed it down to these few heart-wrenching finalists.

At last year's Dave Leicester Comedy Festival, Digital Spy sent one of its own reporters off to test their stand-up skills and run the gauntlet with a full five-minute set.
This year, we're going one better. Darren Jeffries and Matt Littler, perhaps best known as Max and Ob from Hollyoaks, have signed up to take part in the comedy festival for Digital Spy and are prepared to put their dignity on the line for laughs.
Darren and Matt will be sharing their Diaries with us as they prepare to take to the stage.
Digital Spy Diary - Darren Jeffries:
Me and my big fat unfunny mouth. I'm standing outside some language school in central London waiting for Mr Marc Blake, who is our tutor for today's comedy lesson, and also Matt Littler, my husband in televisual crime, to learn how to write a stand-up routine for a gig at Dave's Leicester Comedy Festival.

Brace yourselves. This list of the Top 100 Greatest Gay Movies is probably going to generate some howls of protest thanks to a rather major upset in the rankings. Frankly, one that surprised the hell out of us here at AfterElton.
But before we get to that, an introduction. A few weeks ago we asked AfterElton readers to submit up to ten of their favorite films by write-in vote. We conducted a similar poll several years ago, but a lot has happened culturally since then, and a number of worthy movies of gay interest have been released. We wanted to see how your list of favorites had changed.
We also wanted to expand our list to 100 from the top 50 we had done previously. We figured there were finally enough quality gay films to justify the expansion. And we wanted to break out gay documentaries onto their own list (You'll find the...

Warner Brothers has commisioned a script for a Justice League film but bringing the project to the screen may not be so easy. A movie like this brings with it a plethora of creative challenges. Will it be a s Shared universe? A Stand-alone project? Should they use new actors or the ones from previous films? Do they introduce all the characters or just assume everyone knows Superman and Green Lantern? What's the best way to make a Justice League film?
The Planned Justice League Film Faces Some Super Challenges
By Rob Young
Even before the Avengers started breaking box office records, rumors were circulating about a possible Justice League film. This review originally was posted here at We Are Movie Geeks just after Beyond The Black Rainbow was screened at Fantastic Fest in Austin Texas last September. Beyond The Black Rainbow will be playing tonight, July 6th and tomorrow night July 7th at The Hi-Pointe Theater (Located at 1005 McCausland Avenue) in St. Louis as part of Destroy The Brain’s monthly Late Nite Grindhouse. The pre-show starts at 11:30pm both nights and the film screens at midnight.
The number of films that can be legitimately classified as an experience are few. More than merely a movie, those that do surface from the traditional fray are usually unforgettable. Beyond The Black Rainbow is one of these experiences, having embedded itself deeply in my mind. One of the reasons I chose to wait a few days before writing this review is that the film is continues to be absorbed into my memory.

We’ve reached that point in the American Idol season — after 37 episodes, hundreds of magnificently awful images in the backdrop oval, and what feels like 73 hours of nonsense critiques from Tweedle-Huh, Tweedle-Abs, and Tweedle-Yo — where I start hunting for conspriracy theories with the vigorousness of Skylar Laine tracking an eight-point buck in the woods. (Run, Bambi, run!) And this week’s Top 3 performance episode had ‘em in spades:
* There was Ryan Seacrest’s intro, touting Phillip Phillips and his hometown of Leesburg, Ga, which might’ve been a not-so-subtle reminder of the last growly-voiced, guitar-playing, untucked-shirt-wearing Idol winner Lee DeWyze,...

So, you’re thinking of Breaking Bad, but need the perfect movie to Break Bad to. How about one hell of a psychedelic thrill ride that will show you just how deep the rabbit hole goes? Check out this new trailer for Beyond The Black Rainbow. It has an 80s style that reminds me of Logan’s Run, mixed with a little of The Cell.
After you watch the trailer, let me know if you think the style was meth or acid induced.
Beyond the Black Rainbow stars Michael Rogers, Eva Allan, and Scott Hylands. It is directed by Panos Cosmatos.
Watch the trailer below:
Synopsis
Set in the strange and oppressive emotional landscape of the year 1983, Beyond The Black Rainbow is a Reagan-era fever dream inspired by hazy childhood memories of midnight movies and Saturday morning cartoons. Cosmatos was born in Rome in 1974 to the late Greek movie director...

Trailers are an under-appreciated art form insofar that many times they’re seen as vehicles for showing footage, explaining films away, or showing their hand about what moviegoers can expect. Foreign, domestic, independent, big budget: I celebrate all levels of trailers and hopefully this column will satisfactorily give you a baseline of what beta wave I’m operating on, because what better way to hone your skills as a thoughtful moviegoer than by deconstructing these little pieces of advertising? Some of the best authors will tell you that writing a short story is a lot harder than writing a long one, that you have to weigh every sentence. What better medium to see how this theory plays itself out beyond that than with movie trailers? Taped Trailer I, like many other boys, went through a Patrick Dempsey phase when I was younger. It all started with Can't Buy Me Love...
