"Godzilla Vs. Mechagodzilla II" is the best of the Heisei (1985 and on) installments to the Godzilla saga. As is my disclaimer with all the Godzilla movies, throw the acting and plot out the window. It's not worth analyzing. This movie especially.
The plot is as plain as day. Rodan is protecting an egg on Birth Island. Godzilla shows up, they fight, the egg is lost, and the scientists take it home.
Turns out Junior is inside. Meanwhile, Godzilla heads to Tokyo, looking for the little one. The military brings out Mechagodzilla to battle him, but Rodan shows up first. Rodan is struck down. Godzilla is close to biting the bullet when his second brain (don't ask) is destroyed, but Rodan (in a final act of bravery) transfers all his energy to Godzilla, rejuvenating him.
The super-charged Godzilla melts down Mechagodzilla in record-time and father and son march off into the ocean.
This movie makes the most out of being straightforward and action-packed. No bones about it. The new Mechagodzilla is vastly improved and very cool. Rodan's presence brings us back to the old days.
A lot of fun here. A must-see for fans of the Heisei Godzilla stuff.
