MPAA Rated PG for language, and for mild violence and sensuality
Certification

Sex & Nudity

  • Short recording with repeated uses of "t*ts and "*ss" used for comedic effect.
  • Some heavy kissing between adolescent couples.
  • A few(very few) very mild and very discreet innuendos that will go right over most kids' heads.
  • A very brief view of a movie poster with a drawing of a woman in a tiny mildly low-cut dress typical of a B-movie poster from 1962.

Violence & Gore

  • All very lighthearted:
  • A man in an ant suit punches a teenager and kidnaps a girl at switchblade point.
  • A minor car crash with no injuries.
  • Some campy monster-movie action.
  • A movie theater balcony collapses causing massive destruction but no injuries.

Profanity

  • 9 uses of ass 1 use of Jesus, oh my god, my god, darn, oh god and god 2 uses of thank god, jerk, stupid, shit and bastard 4 uses of tits 3 uses of damn 5 uses of hell
  • Very mild. About 5 uses of "ass" in one scene due to a stuck record. Maybe a few damns and hells. The language in this film is strictly PG not even coming close to PG-13.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Cigar and cigarette smoking

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The film successfully evokes the tension that was felt by people during the Cuban Missile Crisis so air raid drills and considerable conversations about the effects of nuclear war are depicted. The film generally shouldn't scare children but, a nightmare about an atomic explosion could bother some of them.
  • The ant monster might scare super sensitive kids but not most.
  • Some suspense involving the balcony collapse.
  • Overall, Matinee is an excellent film for family viewing and should be seen by anyone who loves the movies.
