This is one of the few kids' shows I would watch. Warning: Spoilers
I don't watch a bunch of little kids' shows but I have to say "The Magic School Bus" is actually cool.

I loved this in 3rd Grade and I wished I could have Miss Frizzle as MY teacher! Then 3 weeks ago I came across it again on the Qubo channel and I watched an episode...and at the end I found out Lily Tomlin is Miss Frizzle! I LOVE THAT WOMAN! My favorite character (besides the Frizz, of course) is Phoebe. And I love Arnold" I shoulda stayed home today, and Carlos' bad jokes. I totally think this could take on Sesame Street! It is educational and awesome, so totally, yeah!

MAGIC SCHOOL BUS FOREVER, PEOPLE!

one of the best series I've ever seen
dror9810 April 2017
The Magic Bus, no doubt a most nostalgic program for the natives of the nineties.

There was not one chapter I could say bad, as a rule I'm a person who loves science, so maybe I personally enjoyed more than ordinary people. All the colorful characters, each episode plotfascinates you to the screen. In short, one of the best series I've ever seen, along with Avatar: The Last Airbender. Grade? 9. Because 10is perfect, and in my opinion the series is not perfect, almost perfect.

Great Education Video/Show
andrew-ice29 August 2012
I remember watching this show all the time as a kid, and even in current times it's something I would highly recommend to any parent or teacher for their child, or students to watch. It's a creative take on educational purposes that actually pull the child into what's going on. It keeps them actively engaged and is quite amusing to watch as well. The show is really a play off of imagination, which is one of the most creative ways to teach a child every aspect they need to know. It is healthy for brain growth and more.

My daughter saw me scrolling through IMDb and told me to click on "that one" as I was on my way through, so here I am! Thumbs up for The Magic Schoolbus.

My kids love it!
eoff8 November 2004
I think this show is both educational and entertaining. My kids (ages 2 to 7) LOVE the show and the books. Its 52 episodes now run at 6:30 a.m. ET weekdays on The Learning Channel. Because it is wholesome and beneficial, it is one of the few shows I let them watch on TV. I like the guest-star voices (Dolly Parton) and the way Ms. Frizzle's dress changes according to the theme of the day. The show is a great way to introduce children to science concepts at a young age, as it easily holds their attention the entire time and inspires their imagination. It is refreshing to see that a children's show these days can get by without violence and mean-spiritedness while also teaching the values of friendship, curiosity and persistence.

Magic School Bus
dark_snow_angel30 June 2005
I used to watch the Magic School Bus and learned a lot from that program. I watched it when I was little and several segments were hilarious to me at that age. I still fall back on these tape to help simplify my knowledge when studying in high school. All those who say that this would never be helpful to children have problems of their own. Every person I've every known of who watched this series has found it useful and fun. Even my mother (52) watches it in her spare time. It's a helpful way to begin to teach more complicated science subjects to children. In my High school, the Graduates are required to watch one episode relating to the unit at the beginning of each unit. The Magic School Bus is useful and suggest to all parents to look into it to help commence some education in your child at a young age.

great show...wish it was still on TV covering new topics
cesardlg31 May 2006
yes, sesame street and other shows teach the basics better. however, once your kid advances to the "how it works" stage, this program hits the nail on the head. my kid likes hearing how honey is produced and what the roll of the bee-keeper as well as the queen bee, etc. There are also a lot of factoids that he just will spout off for the next few days. Sesame street was great when he was 2 and 3, but now at 4, its magic school bus time.

we just recently discovered the books and they are great also. we do story time before bed every time and usually its at least 5 books. one of these books takes about 20-30 minutes though because there are a lot of factoids in each of them and reading each and every one takes time. i learned quite a bit myself. i kind of like the book better than the show.

Magical
TheLittleSongbird11 April 2022
'The Magic School Bus' is another one of those shows watched regularly as a kid but forgotten about for a while during teenagehood. Reliving all the fond memories over-time as a young adult re-watching various forgotten about family shows, many of them still hold up incredibly well and manage to be even better today. More so than not. Have always liked shows that entertain and educate, 'Sesame Street' being ground-breaking in this regard, and there were definitely memories of 'The Magic School Bus' doing both.

My very positive feelings on 'The Magic School Bus' had as a child still hold up brilliantly. It is not only as wonderful as remembered, it is perhaps even better with more to appreciate. It is one of the very few educational shows to have a perfect balance of entertainment value, cuteness and educating younger audiences in a tactful way. As a show on its own terms, 'The Magic School Bus' has a real magical charm to it that still stands the test of time.

Visually, 'The Magic School Bus' looks great. Have always loved the vibrant use of colours, the beautifully detailed and sometimes imaginative backgrounds and Mrs Frizzle's outfits. The varied settings are lovely to see and used very well. The music is dynamic with what goes on and never feels out of place in a too jaunty or too dark way, while the theme tune is catchy.

Even as a child, the writing struck me as very clever and it was clear that those responsible for the writing were having fun and had done their research. There are many genuinely hilarious moments throughout, as well as some cute but never too sentimental ones. All the stories are lively in pace and engage fully throughout, they also entertain and charm hugely. There is a lot of educational information, of the how to kind than the basic gist, here, delivered in a way that is easy to understand without any dumbing down or preachiness.

All the characters are fun and memorable and individual in personality, Mrs Frizzle really does make education fun and worth engaging with and in. The chemistry is endearing and always natural. The characters are portrayed ideally too, nobody sounds odd.

Concluding, still has its magic. 10/10.

Educating through cartoon.
Mysterygeneration23 January 2022
The books were great, but there was nothing quite like witnessing the animated power of Mrs. Frizzle, voiced by Lily Tomlin, and her students, taking lessons about friction or the immune system to new levels. The only downside was that school bus life was less exciting and our favorite teachers didn't even drive them. But maybe with a Kickstarter campaign, they will.

Reliving the magic
wpgsamantha21 October 2020
This show was such a huge part of my childhood, watching it at home as a child and in school for relevant topics up until grade 12! It was always a class favourite. Now as an adult I get to relive the magic with my own daughter and it's just as educational and wonderful as when I first watched it so many years ago.

Fun Educational Show for Kids
AngelHonesty9 January 2020
I loved watching this as a kid. I was homeschooled so my mom would encourage us to watch educational shows. The cartoon was very entertaining, I loved the way they would break down science or really get deep inside of how things work. It's one thing to read about it in a text book, but another to actually see how it all works on a show. It also had a good amount of humor to keep you entertained, along with good visual effects. Even as an adult I find the show is still fun to watch.

PERFECT FIELD TRIP!!!

Fasten your seatbelts everyone because you're in for a great show of your life! I've been watching this since elementary school and I tell ya, this is one of the best blockbusters ever! Well, better than Netflix's version, but today's kids will love both this AND Netflix's, but I like this one better. (please forgive me Netflix, I like the other version of Magic School Bus better, please don't be hurt!) Anyhow, I grew up with this franchise my entire life and it is the best gosh darn cartoon ever! If I loved this as a child, your kids are gonna be thrilled to watch this series!

One of the best TV shows for curious kids who like learning and lots of adventures
D_A_R_K_E_S_T21 December 2019
This TV show is totally about science and pretty much entertaining and funny. Every episode has a new story, new adventures, and amazing science to learn along with sweet lovely and energetic Miss Frizzle and the class. I wish we had real magic school buses and more teachers like Miss Frizzle. I never forget what she used to say: Take chances, make mistakes, get messy!

Foundational for my childhood
qasdfghj15 April 2012
Despite only seeing a few episodes as kid, mostly reruns, they impacted my vision of school and science growing up in profound ways. They taught me that science is action-packed and exciting. One of the my favorite episodes is when Ralphie gets sick and they go into his bloodstream to see the war against the germs ensue.

Even though these days I question the germ-theory, these visualizations were foundational to my understanding of various other processes I could not see. While learning, I would go into a Magic School Bus into my head and play them out in my imagination. Shows like this, and a few excellent science teachers lead me to college at MIT and pursuing a degree in science.

I wish they brought this show back or made others like it! Excellent show!

Why was The Magic School Bus so good?
FairlyAnonymous15 August 2014
The other day I caught my five year old nephew watching The Magic School Bus. At first I didn't think much of it, but then I caught myself sitting down and watching it for the first time in 10-12 years. I forgot how good the show was in its basic educational value.

The show follows a crazy/smart science teacher who has a magic school bus that can take her class on endless adventures through volcanoes, water, space, people's intestines, and other places. This gives the show a large variety of episode locations. This means the show can never be held back by the location because the School Bus is "magic".

While the class isn't the most interesting, they aren't boring either. Miss Frizzle always seems to know what is going on and is never "troubled" because she always has a plan. Arnold is always the nervous kid, Dorothy Ann is the bookworm, Ralphie is the muscle, and various other pretty basic character traits. However, it works surprisingly well compared to most kids' shows. This might be due to good voice acting or simply better timing on the dialogue, but all of the characters works pretty well.

The interesting thing about this show is that at the end of every episode there is a small skit where the "producer" is at home receiving phone calls about the episode just witnessed. This is actually really clever because it allows the show to... break the fourth wall while still being in its own show... literally the producer of the show has Liz (the class pet) with him so it is strange if the characters are conscious that they are in a show or not. Either way, these skits help explain "faults" in the episodes and help stop parent complaints. In one such episode, the character needs to fix the bus and they shrink down and examine the bus' engine from the inside. In real life, they would've been dead. So the ending skit with the producer has him receive a call from someone complaining about how "Unrealistic that was". So the producer comments back about why they allowed an unrealistic element in and how kids should watch out when handling gasoline or car parts. This cleverly allows the show to go into even more dangerous territory. A lower quality show would've avoided car parts in fear of parents complaining. However, The Magic School Bus doesn't avoid dangerous subjects, because it openly explains itself as to why it can do that.

The Magic School Bus is cliché at times. There's no doubt about that, however, it was a slightly early kids' educational animated show so you have to give it some credit that some of its clichés weren't as... bad back then.

All in all, The Magic School Bus is an educational kids' show that has held up fairly well over the course of time. It can be clever, risky, and humorous when it needs to be. Is it as educational as watching a documentary on the same subjects? Probably not. But it dumbs down the facts without diluting them too much, which is just enough for kids to learn. A very good show.

this is a GREAT series
nwbeeson6 August 2005
This is a highly entertaining science series. This show has the highest artistic production values. It is as entertaining as any children's show. But unlike any other children's show, it actually imparts solid correct scientific information. Any child who has an interest in how the world really works will love this series. My children and their friends are delighted with these shows. They ask me to get more. I am a professional scientist, who has 25 years experience. I watch them looking for "dumbing down" or for factual mistakes. I have never seen either. This is the series to get to start your child on their way to understanding the world about them.

The animated series "Magic School Bus" is a great choice for those who want to expand their knowledge
Roman_5977 May 2023
The animated series "The Magic School Bus" is an amazing journey into the world of science and fantasy. I rate it a 10 out of 10 because it has everything you need for a great animated series: an interesting plot, exciting adventures, funny characters, beautiful music and educational facts. This animated series is suitable for all ages and moods.

My family and I think this is a wonderful educational project that shows children different aspects of science and nature through fun and exciting adventures. In each series, children learn a lot of interesting and useful things about nature, space, technology, history, anatomy and other fields of knowledge.

The animated series is not only informative, but also fun, musical and dynamic. Children will laugh at the funny situations in which the heroes fall, enjoy colorful animation and catchy songs. The animated series not only entertains, but also teaches, explaining complex concepts in simple and accessible language, reinforcing them with vivid illustrations and humor. I think this is a great way to develop curiosity, imagination and creative thinking in children.

Super fun and educational!
This show is absolute nostalgia for me. Miss Frizzle takes her class on a myriad of wild adventures, all while learning something in the process. It's not only educational, but it's also immersive, funny, and can be enjoyed by people of all ages. I don't have kids, but if I did, I would feel a lot better with them watching this rather than Caullio, Pinkalicious, or any of that other junk. The Magic School Bus teaches kids problem solving skills and the value of teamwork.

So much to say
ThunderKing65 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Those that went to school in the 90s and early 00s may have had the chance to watch magic school bus during slave school aka class.

After going through all 52 episodes the only 1s that I do not recall watching in class was the Animal episode where the children are forced to turn into fox, birds and rodents. Also the computer episode.

As I rewatched the series more alert and wiser it was an interesting experience. For the record the show has an iconic theme song. It was sung by the late legend Little Richie.

TMS is a great show that was not about hand holding. If anything the show was mildly violent which is a good thing.

There are tons of great episodes that go on wild adventures and many ok-lame episodes. The characters were all unique and each had their strengths, weakness and personality. Each character got to lead an episode some more than others but we had a chance to learn about each character. Wanda and Arnold had the most development of the children.

Phoebe: She was the new girl, shy, tree hugger red head type. I had no beef with her.

Ralphie: was the chubby Caucasian. Like Carlos he made jokes from time to time, he was imaginative and he took charge when it was necessary. I had no problems with Ralphie.

Wanda: Was the Asian girl. She may have been Korean due to her rash, bossy, loud personality. After a while she annoyed me with her whiny voice.

My main man Carlos: He was the class clown and the most confident of the class. He may have been a Mexican. I loved his bad jokes they were so funny. He was mos def my favourite student.

Dorothy Ann: Was the blonde Caucasian who was a subtle flirt. She had her moments with Ralphie, Carlos and Arnold. She was the bookworm, know it all nerd. I had no issue with this character.

Arnold: Arnold was the normie, geek. He was a red head Khazar. I don't view Arnold as wimpy, but more rational than the others. He did not like the "field trips" I assume he has been traumatized due to the dangerous adventure The Friz put him in. I thought Arnold was a cool, confident kid. He was the best, special character of the series. If any character deserved a spin-off it would be Arnold.

Keesha: She was a melaninated girl. Possibly the most rational, smartest, best dressed, pretty, moral, well-rounded, leader, open-ended character of the series next to Arnold. I liked her.

Then there was my bro Tim: For 90% of the series, he was a side character at best. He did not get to lead his own episode until season 3. He was the least developed character and seemed a lot like cardboard. There is not much to say about him because like I said he was the least developed character. For the 10% of the series he did not lead in a lot of the episodes, but he had more speaking roles. I did not like his outfit, it seemed too cardboardy to me. He was an ok bro.

The Friz aka Ms. Frizzle: She was no doubt a psycho sadist. She could have killed the children so many times and did not care for their well-being. Without permission or warning she would zap the children to them tiny size, into another species or into some place like the human body, machine or time travel. In the early episodes she was mildly violent then she toned down by a lot by season 3 which is why season 3 eps to 4 collectively were not the best. My theory is that she is a promiscuous, witch that turned her partner into a lizard. She was crazy ok character. Many of her entrances were questionable amd vastly unrealistic.

Magic School Bus: Very OP and versatile machine. It could take down Thanos and Darkseid at the same time if it needed to.

Liz: The greats cover up is to call Liz a female if The Friz turned her lover into a lizard (or maybe she hits for both teams or the other.) Liz was a cool, smart, helpful Lizard and had more development than Tim.

Mr. Huxable, aka the Producer: He was a cool guy. He was a bro that answered rude callers answers for the last 5 min of the episode. Again, he had better development than Tim. I guess only 1 bro was allowed to be developed back in the 90s per show.

That being said, the last segment didn't make sense. I'm not sure if the Magic School Bus and class segments were a skit or real. I say this because at the time they would reference The Friz, guest characters, Liz and speak about them as if they are real. Then the producer will say the episode was made up to teach lessons. It's really confusing if the Magic school bus actually exist in their universe, or it's made up in their universe. Example Liz behaviour/continuity is the same in the actual show and in the last segments.

This show was very educational without hand holding. I learned something new in each episode. Sure some things they do state maybe bogus but overall they speak mostly fact. The show is about learning, discovery, being confident, growing, making mistakes, working as a team and having fun.

The stories were basic and fine. The best episode were that had a villain or featured Janet. Hate Janet or not, she made many episodes fun. What I would have done to make Janet an even better character is have her try to find out about the magic school bus. Make her be an ongoing stalker like character that was trying to prove that The Friz had a magic school bus that did magical things.

The animation was gold. Voice Work was iconic. I do know at least 4 voice actors from previous products which makes these characters even more unique, for example: Arnolds Voice actor voiced Michael DeSanta son in GTA 5 haha!. Keesha was voiced by the Shining Time Station (90s Thomas the Tank Engine show) actress, and Carlos was voiced by the actor from Are you Afraid of the Dark? And Braceface. The producer was voiced by the actor/son from the Cosby show. Great voice cast.

If I could choose one highlight of the whole series, I would have to choose 4 and they are:
  • Arnold taking his helmet off in space and only getting the flu
  • Carlos's great jokes

  • Being enthralled of The Friz endangering children to learn a lesson that could be learnt by easily opening a book: Take a look, it's in a book a reading rainbow!!!!.. I Caaaaan I can beeee Anything.... The Reading Rainbow.

  • Anyways... Lastly, each child had their own catchphrase in each episode which were unique, and funny.

Should you watch this show? Yes. Watch it for fun if you going to watch this expecting realism or Sponge Bob Garbage then don't bother. The show isn't for you. Just watch it for fun.

Overall it's a great show, I guess it's mainly due to childhood school nostalgia. Nevertheless, the production was near flawless.

Verdict: The show did have numerous goofs, but I won't be going through them all because I don't want you reading this review all day. It was a great show for children to learn something and to be relaxtained.

A Cute and Educational Show...
Ginger877 August 2004
When I was in second grade my teacher always brought in videos of "The Magic School Bus". I loved the videos so I started watching the show on T.V. I enjoyed this show because it made learning fun. I learned about the human body, photosynthesis, outer space, sound, reptiles, and much more. It was cool.

One of my favorite episode was the one when the class is investigating a haunted house. In this episode the class learns about sound. I also like the episode when the class went to outer space to look for a star for Dorothy Ann. That episode was really funny.

I suggest this show to everyone and I give it 9/10 stars.

I still find I learn from watching. It's a show that is not irritating like some newer cartoons that think kids are idiots and need hyper energy to stay tuned in. This entertains and teaches my nephew and is enjoyable for me as well!
