The Saturday focus for President Donald Trump’s Tweetstorm was Ukraine – as in, you have to crane to see any wrongdoing, according to the Commander-in-Tweet.
Reports that President Trump pressured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden’s son, Hunter, were quickly shot down in today’s tweetstorm.
“Nothing was said that was in any way wrong,” Trump tweeted of his July phone conversation with Zelensky.
The focus should be on the Bidens, Trump insisted. He asked for a focus on “the Joe Biden demand that the Ukrainian Government fire a prosecutor who was investigating his son, or they won’t get a very large amount of U.S. money,”
Biden has denied the allegation and given no further comment. But the ever-resourceful Trump had some backup: Trump, in response, tweeting a video in which Biden discussed the incident.

It’s a Michael Cohen Sunday for President Donald Trump, as he’s started off the day by kicking the carcass of his former attorney.
Fresh off a long day and successful speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference, the Commander-in-Tweet continued this morning with Cohen attacks begun last night. That’s no doubt prompted by the Sunday morning news shows, which have focused relentlessly on Cohen’s testimony last week before the House Oversight Committee.
We’ll update as more rolls in. The tweetstorm so far:
The reason I do not want military drills with South Korea is to save hundreds of millions of dollars for the U.S. for which we are not reimbursed. That was my position long before I became President. Also, reducing tensions with North Korea at this time is a good thing!

As it continues its push into scripted television, indie feature studio Roadside Attractions has acquired the one-hour drama pilot The Golden Cage, a female-driven Wall Street thriller from Page Awards Finalist scribe Oskar Nordmark and Darryl Taja’s Epidemic Pictures, for TV series development.
Created by Nordmark, The Golden Cage is set in New York and details the lengths an ex-con will go to both camouflage her past and ensure a top spot for herself in the competitive world of high finance on Wall Street. Wall Street has been the setting for several of Roadside’s most notable feature releases, including Arbitrage and Margin Call.
Taja (The Perfect Guy) will executive produce through his Epidemic Pictures banner, along with Adam Rodin (Extant). Nordmark will serve as co-executive producer. Roadside Attractions’ Howard Cohen, Eric d’Arbeloff and Jennifer Berman will also serve as Executive Producers.
Rodin originally brought the project to Taja to develop and produce.

Continuing his recent media jihad on Twitter, President Donald Trump today attacked NBC and its comedy program Saturday Night Live as a “Democrat spin machine” in his morning online broadsides, and issued a call for a court test of the limits of free speech.
The tweet followed SNL‘s Christmas episode last night, which opened with It’s a Wonderful Trump, an It’s a Wonderful Life spoof imagining an America in which Trump was never president and where everyone is happier.
“A Real scandal is the one-sided coverage, hour by hour, of networks like NBC & Democrat spin machines like Saturday Night Live. It is all nothing less than unfair news coverage and Dem commercials. Should be tested in courts, can’t be legal? Only defame & belittle! Collusion?”
The President was just warming up, though. The tweetstorm questioned where the missing text messages were from former FBI agent Peter Strzok...

The week of Halloween means that witchcraft is in the air, as those who binged “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” last weekend know all too well. That said, “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow,” the delightful oddball of the CW/DC universe, can be relied upon to find its own unique spin on the subject for the second episode of Season 4, “Witch Hunt.”
In classic “Legends” fashion, the clip below transports the show’s time-travelling ensemble, including Sara (Caity Lotz), Constantine (Matt Ryan), Rory (Dominic Purcell), and Ray (Brandon Routh) to a different time: specifically, the era of the Salem Witch Trials, but with an anachronistic twist. While the persecution of young women suspected of witchcraft during the 1600s is an established part of history, there’s nothing in the history books about one of them having a “Cinderella”-esque fairy godmother hovering about them.

For the past few years, I’ve been pointing out how superhero shows have been seeing a decline in ratings, yet nobody in power is taking the trend seriously. Instead, networks seem to think piling on even more of these is the solution to countering genre fatigue.
A recent example came in the form of both The Flash and Black Lightning posting low ratings for their season premieres a couple weeks back, with the former hitting a series low with its next effort. As if to say “hold my beer,” Legends of Tomorrow brought up the rear by reaching its own series low last night.
You see, the time traveling DC show drew in less viewers than anything else on Monday evening (1.1 million), with 0.4/1 rating in the 18-49 demographic. Arrow, meanwhile, didn’t do much better, posting a 0.4/2 demo rating, thus laying claim to 1.2 million viewers.

When I wrote my review for the upcoming Legends of Tomorrow season 4 premiere (you can read it here), I couldn’t help expressing my curiosity for seeing what kind of mystical threats await the team beyond a unicorn possessing a taste for human flesh. And while the guest to follow may not end up being of the evil variety, we now have a better idea of what’s on the horizon.
Thanks to a number of images taken from the second episode to air this season, “Witch Hunt,” we’re able to confirm this is when the gang will cross paths with an actual Fairy Godmother. Additionally, various Legends can be spotted in attire native to the relevant time period, sans John Constantine, of course. One has to imagine that it’ll take the enigmatic exorcist a little more time before he’s willing to play ball, not to mention...

Exclusive: Tessa Coates may be the discovery of the 2018-19 development season. The young British writer, performer, journalist and comedian is set to create, star in and executive produce a comedy series project, executive produced by The Office’s Greg Daniels. In a competitive situation, the project has been set up at ABC with a put pilot commitment. ABC Studios is producing.
Coates will executive produce alongside Daniels and his longtime manager/producing partner, 3 Arts’ Howard Klein. The concept for the series is still being honed in.
Until recently, Coates, who describes herself as a “writer, performer, freelance journalist, enthusiastic teller of anecdotes that may or may not have happened,” was virtually unknown in the Us. One-third of the sketch group Massive Dad, she first got attention with her debut solo show, Primates, at the 2017 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. A run at the Soho Theatre in London in April and June 2018 followed.

Washington — President Donald Trump ignited a whole new round of questions about his intentions in Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation when he tweeted that he has the “absolute right to Pardon myself,” but that he wouldn’t need to do that because he has done “nothing wrong.”
Trump’s claim that he could pardon himself — something that he said was backed up by “numerous scholars” — actually is contradicted by others. A Justice Department opinion issued just days before President Richard Nixon resigned from office concluded that the president could not do so.

In the meantime, the never ending Witch Hunt, led by 13 very Angry and Conflicted Democrats (& others) continues into the mid-terms!” Trump wrote on Monday morning.

Catherine Deneuve is distancing herself from an open letter published earlier this month in the French newspaper Le Monde. The letter was signed by nearly 100 French actresses, writers, and academics, all of whom criticized the #MeToo movement. The women also condemned the “witch hunt” against men over sexual harassment that has occurred in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein abuse allegations, saying it threatens sexual freedom.

“It’s a bit of a witch-hunt.” That is a quote from Liam Neeson about the #metoo movement that has harassed some of Hollywood’s classic stars into retreat. It is interesting that the claims of the movement being a witch hunt are coming from across the pond. Neeson is echoing actress Catherine Deneuve’s comments reported earlier in the month. The first question that comes to mind is why isn’t this position being taken by more men and women in America. Publicly. There certainly is a strong case against Harvey Weinstein, and he has virtually zero people from anywhere defending his actions.

Stassi Schroeder has had a "sobering" few days after facing backlash following a recent episode of her Straight Up with Stassi podcast.

President Donald Trump isn’t just known for his tweets, but also, his manner of tweeting. He’s got a distinct voice, and favorite words that he loves to sprinkle throughout his 140 characters. The word that’s most synonymous with Trump? The label that’s become his go-to insult?
Sad.
Trump doesn’t hesitate to label something sad. In fact, he says it rather often, in both a serious way (when something actually brings him sorrow) or as an insult (when it’s a synonym for pathetic). By our count, he’s said it 64 times on Twitter alone. These are the people,...

The president returned the favor on Tuesday and Wednesday, coming to his son’s defense after his namesake seemingly embroiled himself more deeply in the ongoing Russian collusion investigation by releasing emails detailing how he eagerly set up a meeting with a Kremlin-linked lawyer who allegedly promised damaging information on his father’s presidential rival, Hillary Clinton.

She could never be a saint, but she thought she could be a martyr if they killed her quick.—Flannery O’Connor The mist uncovers Japanese soldiers as well as the grim sight of severed heads by the side of the hot springs where Catholic priests are being tortured. A priest kneels down in horror, almost catatonic, unable to bring himself to believe in the evilness of these men, the men of the Inquisitor. Why are these priests, who came to this “swamp of Japan” to spread the Word of the Lord, suffering so immensely on the hands of these soldiers? To the modern, secular audience, the theme of Silence (2016) is of great irony: the all-powerful Catholic Church, the institution that spread terror across Europe for 700 years with her bonfires and witch hunts and enforcing an almost maddening outlook at faith and personal behavior, comes to an unconquerable land where...

Melding together genres seldom works. It’s a delicate balancing act; tone is key, and when either (or both) are off the whole thing can come crashing down. By 1991, HBO was already offering up original programming and decided to create a whole new sub genre – horror noir. The result was Cast a Deadly Spell, a very entertaining and perfectly concocted mixture of 1940s detective story and supernatural terror. And when the balance is right, like it is here, the results are sublime.
Originally airing on HBO on Saturday, September 7th, CaDS was met with critical acclaim as a riotous mashup of Bogart and the Dark Arts, treating audiences to a unique blend of murder and magic.

With spoilers, we look at the questions Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them left behind...
This feature contains spoilers for Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them and other Harry Potter films.
For fans of Jk Rowling's Wizarding World, the newest adjunct to the Harry Potter franchise has been refreshingly unknown up until release. Although the new spin-off Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them is set before the previous films, we don't expect that Rowling's planned five films will dovetail directly into The Philosopher's Stone and aside from a couple of references to wizarding history, it's uncharted territory.
The book version of Fantastic Beasts was published for Comic Relief in 2001 and purports to be an abridged, Muggle-worthy edition of Newt Scamander's in-universe work on magical creatures. On the other hand, the plot of the film is brand new, taking place during Newt's research into writing the book,...

Something wicked this way comes when J.K. Rowling & Co. dive back into the magical universe of witchcraft and wizardry in the latest in the Harry Potter franchise, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. It’s a brave new world, literally, as the action has now shifted to New York from Hogwarts and a well-intentioned wizard by the name of Newt Scamander (the affable Eddie Redmayne) is in town with a PETA-friendly mission on his shoulders and a briefcase full of intriguing creatures at his feet. The nomenclature is purportedly different—Muggles are called NoMajs and the Ministry of Magic is replaced with the Magical Congress of the United States—but the setting is intimately familiar.
And Newt is in for more than he bargained for. Dark forces lurk in the gloomy buildings of the Big Apple while the world of magicians is in turmoil, faced with exposure to NoMajs.

Raised in a strict Calvinist household, Paul Schrader didn’t see his first film until he was 17 years old, a late and inauspicious start (the movie in question was The Absent-Minded Professor) to what would become a lifelong obsession. Under the mentorship of Pauline Kael, Schrader became a film critic before shifting his attention to screenwriting. The seminal Taxi Driver proved to be a breakthrough for both Schrader and director Martin Scorsese, and the two would collaborate again on Raging Bull, The Last Temptation Of Christ, and Bringing Out The Dead.
Since making his debut with Blue Collar, Schrader has built up a wide-ranging body of work as a director, which includes everything from personal projects like American Gigolo and Mishima: A Life In Four Chapters to oddball one-offs like the made-for-hbo supernatural gumshoe riff Witch Hunt and the music video for Bob Dylan’s “Tight Connection To My ...

I make no apologies about it, The Blair Witch Project is one of my Top 10 horror films. I saw it when I was 18 years old and it was the last film that made my heart skip a beat. While I can’t say the same for Blair Witch 2: Book of Shadows, that hasn’t hindered my excitement for the new film, Blair Witch, coming out September 16th. One of my favorite writer/director teams, Simon Barrett and Adam Wingard, are behind this new entry and I am counting down the days until I get to see it. Until then, we have come up with a fun event called the “Blair Witch Scavenger Hunt”!

From a pop culture perspective, private detectives stand for all that’s memorable about film noir. The indifference, the wittiness, and the moral ambiguity that define each urban knight has since become the stuff of parodied legend. We’re talking about the mediators between the crooks and the cops, the embodiment of back alley grayness that’s so tough to pin down. P.I.’s could cooperate with the law if needed, but they could just as soon do business with the bad guys for the right price. To a certain extent, that is – shamus work has always attracted the ignored and the ethical. The Wild West has mythical men with no name, The Asphalt Jungle has names with investigating licenses attached to them. Instead of a poncho and a ten gallon hat, they’re provided a fedora and trench coat.
