Sex & Nudity

  • Ellen wakes up only wearing a loose fitting blouse that reveals her legs and mild cleavage. In one shot, she bends over and one of her nipples is clearly visible for about two seconds. A young man watches and it is implied they slept together.
  • A man is seen trying to tempt a young girl, then thrust up against her.
  • Cries and screams from a young girl is heard, then we see her run away as a man emerges zipping his zipper. He announces that she will be great when she's older.
  • International version - brief intro to a sex scene between Ellen and Cort. Ellen's naked breasts are fully exposed as he grabs her butt. The scene ends before anything further.

Violence & Gore

  • A man is kicked, punched and pistol-whipped several times throughout the movie, but no resulting injuries are shown.
  • A pistol is used to break a man's hand.
  • A guy has his thumb shot off, then is shot in his other hand, and finally is shot in the chest with blood spraying out. Fairly graphic.
  • A man shoots at a person riding up to him and they fall off their horse. When he walks over to them, they flip over and hit the shooter, knocking him out.
  • A man standing on a stool, has it kicked out from under him, causing him to fall to the ground.
  • A man is tossed out the front doors of a saloon and rides away on his horse. However before he is out of sight another man walks out saloon and shoots him in the back. No blood.
  • A woman hits a man several times until she is restrained. They then duel with their guns. The man is injured but the woman leaves him. However he runs after her to shoot her from behind, but she fatally shoots him first.
  • The town's clock tower explodes.
  • The story centring around a woman who avenges his father's death. The flashback scenes show her father being strangled with a noose.
  • Sam Raimi's humorous touches - like daylight showing through bullet holes - mutes the visceral impact of some shootings. It's in the playbook.
  • A man is momentarily hung before being saved.
  • Shootings throughout, including many duels. Several of them are to the death with some blood and minor gore.
  • A man is shot, leaving a see-through hole in his body; he is then shot in the head with some blood and brains splattering, also with a see-through hole.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • A lot of people get drunk at the town saloon.
  • Some cigar-smoking by several characters. In one scene a man smokes a cigar while another smokes a tobacco pipe.
  • A woman lights and smokes a cigarette while riding a horse.
  • A young boy offers to sell a woman whiskey and cigars, along with other merchandise.
  • Several scenes take place at a town saloon where people are drinking.
  • The female protagonist drinks several times through out the film, including shots of whiskey.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The many onscreen deaths are intense, especially some of the sympathetic characters.
  • The implied sexual abuse of a young girl can be disturbing.
  • Some of the gore, including shots of bullet wounds, are intense.
  • The many showdowns throughout can be fairly intense, more so as the film goes on as protagonists are put in significant peril.
  • The hanging scene during a flashback may be intense and upsetting.

Violence & Gore

  • Several very large explosions destroy buildings and throw people through the air.
  • Ellen is shot by Cort in the chest. The wound is not shown.
  • Herod kills his son Kid.
  • Ellen is shot and dies, but she survives the shot as she comes back after the explosion.
  • The final battle is Cort and Ellen fighting against Herod.
  • In a flashback sequence, a young girl is forced to kill her father before being hung.
  • The final showdown between Ellen and Herod. She get shot first, but managed to be fine. She shoot him in the head and is dead.
  • A man is put into a noose and standing on a chair. Several men take shots at the chair, causing it to splinter. Then, the victim's daughter is given a gun and told that if she can shoot out the rope, her dad will live. She aims the gun at the rope and pulls the trigger, but she hits him in the head, killing him.
