Bertrand Bonello will preside over the Jury for the Nespresso Grand Prize for La Semaine de la Critique (Critics' Week), while João Pedro Rodrigues will be President of the Jury for the Nikon Discovery Award for Short Film. The awards will be presented on Closing Night, May 24, and, once again, here are the lineups they'll be taking in.
Nina Menkes will not only be on the International Jury at the Jeonju International Film Festival, opening today and running through May 4; she'll also be presenting her 1996 feature, The Bloody Child, one of only five films selected to represent 50 years of the Jeonju sister festival, the Viennale.
Michael Guillén previews the lineup of the International Film Festival of Panama, opening today and running through Wednesday.

"It took me a long time to understand my own film." That's writer-director Nina Menkes on what may be her best known work, The Bloody Child (1996). To say that it uses reverse-chronology to tell the based-on-true-events tale of a U.S. Marine who senselessly kills his wife ... well, that would make things seem entirely too straightforward and even -- gulp -- conventional. Like Menkes' other acclaimed films of the past three decades, The Bloody Child doesn't so much tell a story as it hibachis one, slicing and dicing events and perspectives, and then keeping all the fragments either flying through the air or sizzling in place indefinitely.Whether such an approach would dazzle you with its originality of presentation or simply make you impatiently hungry...

Moving Pictures asked Yaniv Rokah to sit down with writer-director Nina Menkes ahead of this weekend’s Downtown Independent screenings of “Dissolution” and “Phantom Love.” Rokah, an L.A.-based actor, has interviewed Paul Haggis and written reviews for Moving Pictures and is in talks to co-produce Menkes’ next film, “Heatstroke.” He caught up with the auteur for coffee as she prepares to move to Cairo.
