Richard Gere and Edward Norton headline the 1996 thriller Primal Fear, which is coming to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray in the UK.
Cast your mind back to 1996, assuming you were alive at that time, and not a toddler. This was a time when movie studios – Paramount in particular – were seeking mid-budget thrillers, which had a habit of delivering a very pleasant profit.
In the case of 1996’s Primal Fear, headlined by Richard Gere, the film also unearthed a brand new talent. That’d be Edward Norton, in his first high profile Hollywood role. For taking on the support in what could have been a disposable potboiler, he ended up scoring his first Oscar nomination for the role, and deservedly so.
There’s a lot else to like in the film, too. Gregory Hoblit was directing a bunch of mid-priced films at the time, and we’ve chatted about them and his work,...

When it comes to lone acting Oscar nominations, the category with the fewest examples is Best Supporting Actor. After two consecutive years of there being no new additions to that subgroup, Brian Tyree Henry (“Causeway”) became its 54th member in 2023 after having been largely ignored by other awards bodies over the preceding weeks. He directly followed Tom Hanks, who is the only other entrant from the last five years.
Within the last decade, this club has only grown by seven, with those who preceded Hanks and Henry being Robert Duvall, Sylvester Stallone, Michael Shannon, Willem Dafoe, and Christopher Plummer. 2018 marked the fifth instance of two men accomplishing the feat at once, thus tying the category’s record for most bids of this kind in a single year. Contextually, the corresponding Best Supporting Actress record is three, while that of both lead categories is four.

Despite being surrounded by revered Hollywood giants in the industry, Charles Melton has been the talk of this season’s Supporting Actor race. His heart shattering turn as Joe Yoo in Todd Hayne’s scandalous melodrama “May December” has birthed a frenzy of passionate acclaim.
The 33-year-old TV star (“Riverdale”) has raked in a whopping 28 nominations from critics groups. Of these, Melton has won seven, including the New York Film Critics Circle. He also won at Gotham Awards in a combined category over, among others, Oscar frontrunners Ryan Gosling (“Barbie”) and Da’Vine Joy Randolph (“The Holdovers”).
He faces off against Gosling (2nd in our combined odds) this Sunday at the Golden Globes. Gosling benefits from his star power and being part of the most nominated film, “Barbie.” The category leader according to our odds, Robert Downey Jr. (“Oppenheimer”), has equal star power. The episode of Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? covering Eye See You was Written by Mike Holtz, Narrated by Travis Hopson, Edited by Juan Jimenez, Produced by Andrew Hatfield and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
If you’re like me and so many other nineties kids, you may remember Eye See You (watch it Here) as that Sylvester Stallone film you saw late in his career sitting on the shelves at your local Blockbuster or Hollywood Video featuring Sly pointing a gun in a snowy landscape looking just as surprised as you to be there with such little fanfare. Stallone belongs on the “Guaranteed to have in-stock or you get a free rental” Holy shit package wall of the video store or at the very least in an interesting role among an all-star cast like he’d been in with Cop Land a few years previous.

Obituaries are never easy to write, but this one hits particularly hard given the feeling of so much great work still to come: Andre Braugher, who made a name for himself playing a variety of authority figures in dramas and comedies has died following a brief illness. He was just 61.
André Keith Braugher was born in Chicago in 1962. The prodigious student attended the prestigious St. Ignatius College Prep in his hometown, then earned a BA from Stanford University and a master*s degree from Juilliard — he received scholarships to all three schools.
He considered medicine as a career but saw performing as more exciting. His initial work, as with so many others, was on the stage, in Public Theater Shakespeare in the Park productions in New York City, playing parts in various productions over the years.
His film career was solid, including roles in Glory, Primal Fear, Spike Lee's Get On The Bus,...

Braugher was reportedly born and raised in Chicago to an equipment operator father and a postal worker mother but attended Stanford University before graduating from Juilliard's drama school. The actor soon became a creative force in his own right, as his role as Detective Frank Pembleton on the seminal NBC series "Homicide: Life on the Street" made him a household name for TV fans. Oppenheimer.Much of the praise for Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer has highlighted the strength of its ensemble cast. Cillian Murphy has garnered considerable acclaim for his cold and haunted performance as the eponymous father of the atomic bomb, and so has Robert Downey Jr. as his vindictive foil, Admiral Lewis Strauss. Less has been said about Matt Damon’s supporting portrayal of one of the most pivotal figures in the J. Robert Oppenheimer story: Major General Leslie Groves, the American military man who oversaw the Manhattan Project, and hired Oppenheimer. Gruff, difficult to please, exacting in his military objectives, and occasionally comic, Damon plays him with the understated, reliably solid craft that’s defined his career. And in what has proven to be characteristic of Damon’s screen presence, he plays Groves as less conservative than he first appears: he’s a character who’s willing to gently undercut received...

You can’t blame him for being creeped out, with its peeling paint and backyard full of rotting pumpkins the house already looks like something out of a horror movie. And then there’s that weird bulging thing the walls in his room do while he’s sleeping.
We also quickly learn that he has no friends and gets bullied at school. His parents Carol and Mark also won’t let him dress up for Halloween, something that may be related to the disappearance of a young girl a few years ago. Unsurprisingly they also don’t believe him about the knocking.

The following post contains spoilers for "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery."
With "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery," writer-director Rian Johnson has crafted a glaring look at the trickle-down effect of stupidity. Here, common sense is a currency in flux. It holds little value for wunderkind tech billionaire Miles Braun (Edward Norton), so it's not utilized on his island — not by Braun, and not by his guests.
Accordingly, Johnson's film is deliberately nonsensical in stretches. The characters of "Glass Onion" court foolishness to such a degree that it almost feels cruel to pick their actions apart. However, like Benoit Blanc, engaging with the great mysteries of Rian Johnson's movie is what keeps our minds sharp. And so, here are the moments in "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery" that make no sense.
Why Didn't Anyone See Through Miles' Bluster?
Miles Braun, the tech disruptor played by Edward Norton, generally makes no sense.

How can Amazon Prime Video followup the first season finale of its biggest series ever in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power? The answer lies in its list of new releases for November 2022.
Understandably, Prime Video is probably pretty tired and won’t be opting for any more Middle-earth spectacle for awhile. In its place, however, are a couple of still intriguing Amazon Original series. British Western drama series The English is set to arrive on Nov. 11 to both Prime Video and BBC Two. Emily Blunt stars as a woman who heads to the American West in 1890 looking for revenge on the man she sees as responsible for the death of her son. Cool! Speaking of the English, the James Corden-starring Mammals also premieres on Nov. 11.

Edward Norton made his film debut starring alongside Richard Gere as the mentally disturbed altar boy in 1996's "Primal Fear," and right out of the gate, he proved he could hang with the top talent in Hollywood. He followed up that smashing debut with roles in "Everyone Says I Love You," "American History X," and "Fight Club." In the first three years of his career, Norton became a leading man and earned two Academy Award nominations, one for "Primal Fear" and another for "American History X." Not bad for a rookie.
Along with talent, Norton has a reputation for being difficult to work with, which he earned relatively early in his career. However, a Golden Globe trophy and Academy Award nominations carry a lot of weight around Tinsel Town, so you'd expect Hollywood studios to fall all over themselves to make the actor happy. However, back in 2003, Norton bent to...

Wes Anderson is a director whose films all reflect his specific style. They feature the same unique shot compositions, thematic messaging, and a dose of whimsy. Some people criticize Anderson for this, saying he isn't capable of making a movie any different than all his others. But in a world where mainstream American movies are becoming more homogenous and visually uninteresting, it's refreshing to see a talented director who leaves his own personal signature on every one of his movies. Not every director needs to direct in the Marvel house style, and I'd rather see the vision of one person reflected over and over again than the vision of a conglomerate.
With such films as "The Royal Tenenbaums," "Moonrise Kingdom," and "The Grand Budapest Hotel" under his belt, all reflective of his unique directing style, one can't dispute the fact that Wes Anderson's style tends to produce fun, funny movies that are beautifully shot.
