John Edwards today likened the state of the Australian TV drama production industry to a .stagnant billabong,. marked by fewer series, the same writers, inflated costs for no apparent quality gain, shrinking audiences and increasingly reliance on subsidy.
.All the openness and excitement and bringing through of new talent, of new work, has certainly dissipated, and the area that has historically been the largest and most productive sector of the broadcast industry has all but disappeared,. the veteran producer said in his Hector Crawford memorial lecture at Screen Forever.
.People keep saying it.s the golden age of television drama. If the emperor doesn.t have no clothes, he certainly seems to be wearing very weird underwear..
Edwards lamented the demise of the 40-part and 22-part series and said 13-parters are almost an anachronism.. He noted 6-8 part dramas typically cost $1 million- $1.2 million per hour and once those production structures...

I’ve looked forward to seeing Off the Map ever since Dorothy Snarker told us earlier this year that it features Caroline Dhavernas, aka Jaye, from the cancelled-too-soon Wonderfalls.
Now, after watching the new extended trailer and a few clips from the show, I’m downright excited. Sure, it’s produced by Shonda Rhimes and has that Grey’s Anatomy/ Private Practice feel to it. And sure, Off the Map is about gorgeous, brainy doctors who have lots of sex in between solving never-before-seen medical crises.
But this time, Rhimes is yielding the reins to former Grey’s and Pp writer/producer Jenna Bans, so we have reason to expect a few new twists. Plus, we’ve heard that at least one of Map’s writers wrote for Wonderfalls.
Here’s the latest teaser, thanks to Deadline Hollywood.
Yes that is the lovely and talented Mamie Gummer, who shares genes...

Maybe There's No Brokeback Mountain Or Milk, But There's Also No I Now Pronounce You Chuck And Larry
The fall movie season is upon us, and while we've already uncovered pretty much everything gay on TV, we haven't yet taken a look at what's gay in theaters over the next few months. But that's partly because there usually isn't enough to fill up a page, much less an entire movie preview article. Sadly, that looks to be the case this fall.
Nonetheless, with that in mind, I've dispatched a squad of AfterElton flying monkeys to poke around and see what they can find. And to make fun of the rest.
What did they learn? For starters, Betty White isn't as nice as she seems...
