Movies like Brendan Fraser’s The Mummy have proved that the harsh opinions of critics cannot be entirely trusted. The difference in opinion between critics and audiences may occur due to different factors. Some themes in films would pique the interest of movie lovers no matter what the critics say about its lack of originality. In other cases, performances deemed bad by the critics can turn out to be entertaining for audiences.

Tons of Batmans have shown off their geniuses and strength to audiences over the course of time, but not every single one of them managed to leave their mark on the viewers’ minds. While some of the projects’ failure was understandable, some others were truly done injustice to — like the one film from the DC Animated Universe that Mark Hamill will always hold close to his heart.
Batman in the comics.
This one film is none other than the animated masterpiece cum box office disaster from 1993, Batman: Mask of the Phantasm. And even though Hamill has lent his voice to multiple other blockbuster masterworks featuring the Joker including Batman: The Animated Series, this one particular box office bomb still continues to rule his heart for reasons all too valid.

Edgar Wright and Quentin Tarantino are longtime friends, and this friendship ended up playing a role in the titling of Wright’s new psychological thriller, “Last Night in Soho.” It turns out the title was Tarantino’s doing, as Wright recently admitted to Total Film magazine.
“In ‘Death Proof,’ Quentin uses a Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich song, ‘Hold Tight’,” Wright said. “I was talking to him about that song, and that band, and he said, ‘Have you ever heard “Last Night in Soho?”’ He played it for me, and he goes, ‘This is the best title music for a film that’s never been made.’”
The original title for “Last Night in Soho” was “Red Light Area,” but Wright scrapped it once he discovered there was already a Cillian Murphy-starring movie with the title “Red Lights.” Wright’s next title idea was “The Night Has a Thousand Eyes,...

There is much that can be said about the impact of the Marvel Studios method on Hollywood. You hear it all the time: complaints about the way it has conditioned audiences to expect crisp, familiar formula; lamentations that moviegoers now will only pay en masse to see a movie that ends with a falling CGI sky fortress—plus an advertisement for the next installment during the end credits. It’s these homogenizing elements which likely contributed to auteurs of previous generations, such as Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola, to sniff at whether such products can be considered cinema.
Yet love or hate Marvel movies, right now the actual owners of cinemas around the world should be very grateful to the company, particularly with the studio’s latest film, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which appears to be calming industry jitters about the viability of theatrical distribution this fall.

(AotN) The final installment to the Planet of the Apes trilogy, War for the Planet of the Apes, has opened up to mostly positive reviews and an estimated $134,613,493 domestically (according to Box Office Mojo). What bad could another positive review do? War for the Planet of the Apes is not only a really great film, it’s the best film out of the trilogy and here’s why…
Matt Reeves pulls double duty as director and co-writer of the film along with Mark Bomback. It’s the second Planet of the Apes film to be directed by Reeves with the first being Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. War for the Planet of the Apes continues the story of Caesar (Andy Serkis) as he avenges his family after an attack led by the Colonel (Woody Harrelson).
Although the premise of the film is a common one, Reeves and co.

'Star Wars: The Force Awakens': Darth Vader (?) wants to be no. 1. 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' not to become top-grossing movie of all time on worldwide box office chart? J.J. Abrams' futuristic adventure movie Star Wars: The Force Awakens was the most awaited film release since … let's see … Marlon Brando and Maria Schneider made out in Bernardo Bertolucci's Last Tango in Paris back in the early '70s, destroying marriages, families, and whole nations. Or perhaps, since Luis Buñuel's Viridiana created a furor at the Cannes Film Festival back in 1961, leaving audiences the world over desperate for a look at the movie condemned by both the Spanish military and the Catholic Church for demonstrating that (at least a certain kind of) charity is a stupidity, not a virtue. Or maybe we still have to go further back in time to… Never mind, the...

'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' to shatter box office records? Adam Driver as Kylo Ren looks unsure. 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens': Record-breaking pre-sales Star Wars: The Force Awakens represents the triumph of market over matter. Fandango has reported that pre-sales for the latest Star Wars movie has broken the company's all-time record – they were not referring to just pre-sales record; the sci-fi adventure flick has broken the record for tickets sold at Fandango during the entire run of movies such as Colin Trevorrow's Jurassic World (the previous record-holder), Francis Lawrence's The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, and Joss Whedon's Avengers: Age of Ultron. And to think that Alec Guinness isn't even in the movie. As found at Deadline.com, pre-sales have reached $100 million across the board (Fandango, MovieTickets.com, etc.). Also worth noting, at MovieTickets.com 68% of ticket buyers are male; the average...

Johnny Depp star vehicle Black Mass will be battling it out at the North American box office this coming weekend, Sept. 18-20, the last (astronomical) summer weekend of 2015. According to Variety, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials will “likely” end up at the top of the U.S. and Canada box office chart. In fact, more than just “likely,” in case tracking is on target. Including Thursday evening shows, Maze Runner 2 is expected to collect somewhere around $35 million from 3,790 sites, while Black Mass should take in $22 million or so from 3,188 theaters. Friday Am Update: Dawn of the Planet of the Apes earned an estimated $4.1 million from Thursday night shows beginning at 10 p.m. That's a significant improvement on Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which earned $1.25 million at midnight.Unfortunately, it doesn't compare favorably to recent releases. That number is less than half of the Thursday night openings for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Godzilla and Transformers: Age of Extinction. Godzilla and Spider-Man benefited from 7 p.m. showtimes, though Transformers was essentially in the same position as Apes.Another unflattering comparison: on the same weekend last year, Pacific Rim scored $3.6 million from late Thursday shows. For the weekend, the movie wound up with just $37.3 million.Apes should still be safely over $50 million for the weekend. But the odds of it breaking out to over $75 million now look slim.Forecast: Coming off the slowest Fourth of July in over a decade, the...

‘The Hobbit 2′ weekend box office: Third 2013 movie to top domestic box office chart three consecutive weekends (photo: Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins in ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’) Two weekends ago, Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug opened way below expectations in the United States and Canada; yet, The Hobbit 2 is hanging in there. Chiefly because Will Ferrell’s Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues underperformed on its domestic debut, The Hobbit 2 topped the North American box office last weekend. Chiefly because Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio’s collaboration The Wolf of Wall Street debuted with less than $10 million, The Hobbit 2 topped the North American Christmas box office two days ago. And chiefly because there’s no strong competition out there, The Hobbit 2 is expected to top the North American box office once again this weekend, December 27-29, 2013 — the last weekend of the year. Budgeted at approximately...

November 10th, 2013, 5:52am– This morning, Rupert Grint appeared on The Andrew Marr Show on BBC One. He was interviewed in the beautiful Harold Pinter Theatre where he is currently playing Sweets on stage in Mojo. Rupert talked about what it’s like to be on stage, calling it “thrilling” – but he also said that he had never thought stage work was something he would do since he’s a nervous person in general (we would just like to add that we’re So happy Rupert decided to do this!!). We also find out how he deals with being recognized everywhere as well as what it was like playing Cheetah Chrome in Cbgb. We are working on getting this lovely interview online for all of you to see. Rupert on the Andrew Marr Show You can see some screencaps from the show in our gallery here. - See more at: http://www.

Mojo, London
There's a star-studded approach to casting in Jez Butterworth's play about London gangs, Mojo. Harry Potter's Rupert Grint makes his stage debut after years of Ron Weasley, while Downton Abbey's Mr Bates (Brendan Coyle) adds to his years of fine theatrical endeavour. The top-notch cast also includes Ben Whishaw (Skyfall, Peter And Alice) and Daniel Mays (Mrs Biggs). Mojo, featuring rival gangs and grisly goings-on in 1950s Soho over the kidnap of a teenage pop star, was the first debut play to be performed on the Royal Court's main stage in 40 years since the kitchen-sink classic Look Back In Anger. It was a huge success, becoming a film in 1997, and Butterworth has since written the multi-award-winning Jerusalem. A surefire hit return.

Before Jerusalem, a 24-year-old Jez Butterworth electrified British theatre with a swaggering story of pill-popping Soho gangsters. Nearly two decades on, he tells Ryan Gilbey why it's time to put it back on the jukebox
Theatrical monster hits of recent years don't come much bigger than Jerusalem, which bounced from the Royal Court to the West End and on to Broadway, scooping awards and prompting all-night camp-outs for tickets. But more than a decade earlier, Jerusalem's writer, Jez Butterworth, and director, Ian Rickson, had launched another stage phenomenon at the Royal Court.
The rock'n'roll thriller Mojo, Butterworth's first play, was set amid the pill-popping frenzy of 1950s Soho where two gangland bosses are locked in a power struggle over the pretty young heartthrob Silver Johnny. The reviews were glowing: this paper's Michael Billington called it "the most dazzling main-stage debut in years", while the Telegraph's Charles Spencer said of the...

London, July 27: Rupert Grint will make his first appearance on stage alongside Ben Whishaw in a West End revival of Jez Butterworth's hit debut, 'Mojo'.
Ian Rickson, who will be at the helm of the play, told a UK publication, that he cast the 'Harry Potter' star after placing him in a read-through of the play, the BBC reported.
Rickson said that he had seen the Potter films with his daughter and always thought that the actor was truthful as his character as Ron Weasley.
He added that there's something ordinary and centered about Grint and in the world of Mojo you want that grittiness.
Other stars to act in.

Ron Weasley's going gangster -- yes, you read that right.
"Harry Potter's" famous ginger Rupert Grint is set to make his stage debut in London's West End revival of Jez Butterworth's "Mojo" later this year, Variety reports.
The actor who is best known as the best friend to the Boy Who Lived is taking on a much grittier role than his previous teen wizard. Grint will play a pill-popping gangster -- and we're guessing his character won't be waving any magic wands, either. What would Hermione say if she saw her husband now?
"Mojo" will be directed by Ian Rickson and also stars Ben Whishaw, Daniel Mays and "Downton Abbey" star Brendan Coyle.
Previews for the show will take place at the Harold Pinter Theatre in London beginning in October.

Harry Potter actor to make first stage appearance in production of Jez Butterworth's debut play about rival gangs in 1950s Soho
Rupert Grint is to make his first stage appearance in an all-star West End revival of Jez Butterworth's hit debut, Mojo.
Ben Whishaw, Daniel Mays and Brendan Coyle, best known for playing Mr Bates in Downton Abbey, will join the Harry Potter star in Butterworth's play about rival gangs in 1950s Soho and its nascent rock'n'roll scene.
The play has almost as much draw as the cast. When it premiered in 1995, Mojo was the first main-stage debut at the Royal Court for 40 years, the last being John Osbourne's Look Back in Anger. It subsequently transferred to the West End, before being made into a feature film two years later. Butterworth's commercial clout has only grown with his 2009 global success Jerusalem.

July 26th, 2013, 6:54pm– We have just received word from Rupert Grint‘s representatives that we have something very special to look forward to this coming autumn. Rupert is now confirmed (as of today – we like our news fresh!) to play Sweets in the play Mojo directed by Ian Rickson. The play is set to start its run on October 26 at the Harold Pinter Theatre in London with rehearsals to begin in mid-September. This article from The Daily Mail also features some lovely quotes from director, Ian Rickson, about Rupert: Rickson explained how he met Grint and then placed him in the Mojo read-through. ‘I’d seen the Potter films with my daughter and always thought Rupert was truthful as Ron Weasley. There’s something ordinary and centred about him, and in this world of Mojo you want that grittiness,’ Rickson told me. He noted that he’d spoken to David Yates,...

July 5th, 2013, 1:48pm– MojoCover The internet has been buzzing since last night when The Daily Mail published an article about Rupert Grint being in talks to make his theatre debut in the West End production of Mojo. The news spread quickly, especially since the article states that Rupert already took part in a reading with director Ian Rickson and actors Ben Whishaw, Daniel Mays and Rupert’s former Cherrybomb costar Robert Sheehan. This is very exciting news and we definitely need to keep our fingers crossed. We have just heard back from Rupert‘s representatives, and although they are not ready to make any confirmation on the news, they do say that he is in talks to star in the play. The Jez Butterworth play has previously been adapted for the stage as well as the cinema, and although we don’t know yet which character Rupert is being considered for,...

Domestic box office: Horrendous February 2013 followed by terrible early March Following a horrendous February at the North American box office -- down a whopping 38% from 2012 -- things are looking even more dreary at the start of March. The Warner Bros.-distributed (officially) $195 million-budgeted Jack the Giant Slayer debuted with less than $30 million, whiile two other new releases, 21 and Over and The Last Exorcism Part II, scored less than $10 million each. (Pictured above: Ewan McGregor looks straight at you in Jack the Giant Slayer.) At 3,525 United States / Canada locations, Jack collected $28.01 million as per studio estimates figures found at the website Box Office Mojo. In spite of 3D and IMAX surcharges, the Bryan Singer-directed reworking of the classical fantasy tale, starring Nicholas Hoult as the Jack of the title, averaged a middling $7,946 per venue. In addition to being the sickly heir to a black treacle fortune, his rumpled waistcoasts perpetually stained with petit-four crumbs and cowardice, Jez Butterworth is also a respected English playwright, whose award-winning Royal Court productions such as Mojo and Jerusalem were deeply indebted to Butterworth ...

He was the swaggering star of Queer as Folk and cocky young mayor in The Wire, but the real Aidan Gillen is the exact opposite. The shy Dubliner talks (a little) about lunch with Pinter, party-pooping in Baltimore and his latest, taciturn film role
Although it's almost a showbusiness cliche, the notion of the performer grappling with shyness is hard to reconcile with some of the attention-grabbers who make loudest use of the old line. Aidan Gillen, the Irish actor who made his name as the outlandish Stuart in Queer as Folk, is different. He is shy, and not remotely in a self-dramatising way.
His arms form a protective tangle when he sits down in a Soho hotel, and his gaze flits back and forth to a spot awkwardly adjacent to my own. Then there's the conversation. Originally from Dublin, Gillen is the very opposite of the blarney-spouting Irishman. As he once put it,...

Fox.s successful prequel Rise of the Planet of the Apes is officially giving way to the Dawn . and it.s happening on May 23, 2014. Box Office Mojo has posted that release date for the newly-titled sequel Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the continuation of the story started in director Rupert Wyatt.s Rise, which helped set the stage for the ape revolution that would destroy our planet in subsequent Apes movies. But with Wyatt.s sci-fi thriller raking in an impressive $481M at the global box office, 20th Century Fox naturally decided to continue filling in the gaps on the lengthy Apes timeline. Earlier we reported that Contagion scribe Scott Z. Zac Efron, Michelle Pfeiffer, New Year's Eve Steven Spielberg/Jeremy Irvine/War Horse Gallops Slower, Chip-wrecked $70 Million Behind The Squeakquel: Box Office Starring Matt Damon and former Woody Allen muse Scarlett Johansson, Cameron Crowe's We Bought a Zoo brought in $14.3m at no. 6 as per studio estimates found at Box Office Mojo. After surging 53%, the film's per-theater average was a better-than-expected $4,521 at 3,163 locations. As mentioned in a previous post, despite its performance this New Year's weekend, We Bought a Zoo will have quite a bit of trouble recovering its $50m budget domestically. Matching it, however, shouldn't be too much a problem despite my early, more dire prediction. We Bought a Zoo, Crowe's first narrative feature since the Orlando Bloom/Kirsten Dunst/Susan Sarandon box-office fiasco Elizabethtown six years ago, also features Angus Macfadyen, Thomas Haden Church, Patrick Fugit, Colin Ford, and Maggie Elizabeth Jones. Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt, MI4 – Ghost Protocol Tom Cruise/Brad Bird's Paramount-distributed Mission: Impossible IV – Ghost Protocol topped the North American box office this Christmas weekend, collecting $29.5 million — three million more than estimates released yesterday — according to revised studio estimates found at Box Office Mojo. Not to be left too far behind, 20th Century Fox also upped its estimates for Guy Ritchie/Robert Downey Jr's Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows by $2.5 million — to $20.26m. Ghost Protocol is expected to earn $46.21 million for the four-day weekend; A Game of Shadows $31.81m.
