He’s the consummate actor, writer, renaissance man. What on earth wouldn’t you like to learn Stephen Fry’s take on?
There’s so much you could ask Stephen Fry. Maybe something about his TV career, from A Bit of Fry and Laurie to Jeeves and Wooster to Blackadder to Qi. Perhaps his books – the novels, the memoirs, the classics, how to write poetry.
Maybe something about his illustrious film career, with Wilde the obvious highlight, but which also includes Chariots of Fire, Gosford Park, The Hobbit, Love and Friendship, and Spice World.

David Beckham delves back into the hateful treatment he received following his infamous 1998 World Cup red card — and its impact on him — in a new Netflix documentary series pegged to the 10th anniversary of his retirement.
“This whole process has been like an emotional rollercoaster,” Beckham said of the “Beckham” series in an exclusive video interview with The Associated Press. “I’ve never talked about these certain moments in my career and in my life.”
The intimate four-part series explores Beckham’s upbringing, his courtship with his wife and his triumphs on the field, but perhaps the most difficult part was revisiting his painful sending off during England’s World Cup match against Argentina.
“I hadn’t actually watched it and I hadn’t actually watched the interviews and what people said about me after,” he said, adding that it left him “shocked and emotional.”

There's a lot of swearing on the Prime Video series "The Boys," based on the comics by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, but the most satisfying swears on the series come with a cockney accent. Billy Butcher, the embittered Englishman played by Karl Urban, swears like a sailor on shore leave, and he does so with gusto. But how exactly did Urban, a New Zealand native, manage to create such a killer cockney accent? It turns out he had a little help from an old friend from his time on Peter Jackson's "The Lord of the Rings" — dialect coach Andrew Jack. The two first worked together on "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers," where Jack helped shape the sounds of Middle Earth and taught Urban how to speak like Éomer, leader of the Riders of Rohan.

There’s no shortage of brilliant detectives in novels, film and television, but one of the greatest — or at least the one with the fanciest facial hair — is Hercule Poirot. The Belgian investigator, created by Agatha Christie, has appeared 33 novels, more than 50 short stories, and has been played by a variety of iconic actors.
But for whatever reason, Poirot has only sporadically appeared on the big screen, with many of his earliest movie appearances being lost to time, while some of his other noteworthy adventures were rewritten as vehicles for Christie’s other beloved creation, Miss Marple.
Here we take a look at the various theatrically-released adventures of Hercule Poirot, from the 1930s to today, and see which of his mysteries were truly worth solving.

Prime Video’s new thriller series Wilderness is already making a splash by having a truly great bop as its theme tune in Taylor Swift’s ‘Look What You Made Me Do’, but there’s much more to enjoy here than that. The raunchy show follows a young writer called Liv, whose dream life with her handsome and wealthy husband falls apart when they move stateside and she catches him cheating on her. Their “make or break” dream holiday is set to crumble into a nightmare, albeit a scenic one, when Liv sets out to get her revenge.
The cast of Wilderness may be small, but it’s stacked with notable actors, some of whom might seem very familiar to you. If you can’t remember where you’ve seen them before, or just want to know more about them, we’re here to help!

Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two is here to spice up your week with its first official trailer.
Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya will reprise their roles as Paul Atreides and Chani, respectively, from the first iteration of Villeneuve’s Dune series. Previously-announced new additions include Christopher Walken as Padishah Emperor Shaddam Corrino IV, Florence Pugh as the Emperor’s daughter Princess Irulan, and Austin Butler, who may finally shed the Elvis accent to portray the heir to House Harkonnen.
Picking up where the 2021 film left off, Part Two finds Atreides learning more about the people and creatures of Arrakis — especially the worms. The trailer shows the moment — a key plot point in both the Frank Herbert novel and every prior adaptation — that the young man saddles up on one of Arrakis’ great beasts, impressing the local Fremen people and offering further clues about his destiny.

In the eighties and nineties, before drag really entered the mainstream, Dame Edna was a household name, especially if you lived in the UK. The alter-ego of Australian comedian Barry Humphries, Deadline reports that the beloved star passed away at 89. The comedian had been unwell following hip surgery. In addition to Dame Edna, Humphries was also in high demand as a voice actor, having voiced Bruce the Shark in Finding Nemo and even dipped into motion capture to play the Great Goblin in The Hobbit trilogy.
But, it was Dame Edna that remained Humphries most iconic role. He apparently based the character on his mother, and she was a spoof of vainglorious celebrity interviewers, with Edna hosting a chat show that featured interviews with some of the biggest stars in the world. Mel Gibson, Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Cher – if you were a star in the seventies, eighties and early nineties,...

The BBC reported that Humphries had been in hospital in Sydney, Australia, and had been suffering from complications following surgery in March.

Australian comedian Barry Humphries, best known for his comedic character Dame Edna Everage, has died at age 89, his family has confirmed.
The veteran entertainer had been unwell in a Sydney hospital, suffering complications following hip surgery last month.
Humphries’ most celebrated creation Dame Edna became a star in the 1970s in the UK, getting her own chat show on ITV a decade later. She was known for her quick wit, smiling-assassin putdowns to even the most lauded guest, and for throwing gladioli out among the audience.
Humphries had been inspired to create the character after watching his mother and other suburban housewives as a child in his native Australia. He was born in Melbourne, and moved to the UK in 1959, where he appeared on the West End stage.

Thank goodness that when Jamie Morton discovered his dad had started writing embarrassingly bad erotica, he decided to share it with the world. This resulted in My Dad Wrote a Porno, a weekly podcast series in which he read a chapter of his father’s steamy Belinda Blinked novels aloud, capturing the hilarious reactions of his friends Alice Levine and James Cooper.
When it began in 2015, the podcast renaissance was only just beginning, and you could argue that My Dad Wrote a Porno’s runaway success – sparking world tours, a HBO special, and a whopping 430 million downloads – had a hand in bringing the podcasting industry to its current dizzying heights.
Sadly, all good things must come to an end, and after six wild seasons the show released its final episode in December 2022. For some, it remains unbeatable, but here are some excellent – and often equally cringey – comedy podcasts to fill...

Grab some cumin and turmeric, because it's once again time to spice up your life! In November, Spice Girls rereleased their seminal 1997 album "Spiceworld" to celebrate its 25th anniversary. On March 9, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their single "Stop," they also released a new alternative version of the music video for the track. "Stop" hit No. 2 on the UK Singles chart and No. 16 on the Billboard Top 100. It was one of their last singles before Gerri Halliwell (aka Ginger Spice) left the band later that year. Watch the video above!
The new alternative video shows, from start to finish, the five women dancing in the street in unison in Ireland. Shots from the dance appear in the original "Stop" video in much smaller segments. In the new video, their choreography is much clearer - and it would make an enjoyable TikTok dance challenge. The new and original videos were...

In 1964, The Beatles released A Hard Day’s Night, the first of several movies about the band. It was a comedy in which they played themselves, and its success led to several other Beatles films. The band broke up in 1970, so a finite number of movies feature their acting chops. If you like A Hard Day’s Night, you might also be a fan of other movies featuring musicians playing themselves.

“The Crown” will be welcoming the Spice Girls in the upcoming season.
Photos have emerged of star Dominic West — who plays Prince Charles — filming on location at Winchester Cathedral.
Also photographed was a red-haired actress wearing a skimpy Union Jack-patterned outfit, the spitting image of Spice Girls star Geri Halliwell during her Ginger Spice days.

At the time, both Halliwell and Mel B kissed Charles on the on the cheek, with Halliwell reported to have pinched his royal behind.

“Because Covid hit everything kind of got put on the back burner. Everything was at a standstill. So, now we’re talking about doing something together, and fingers crossed it will be announced very soon … very, very soon!”
Though Sherri Shepherd and the audience voiced their immediate excitement at the news of an incoming Spice Girls reunion, not everyone seemed as thrilled.

It's easy to be dismissive of "Spice World," the 1997 musical comedy about the global musical sensation, the Spice Girls. While the movie has seen some critical reappraisal in recent years, there are still other critics who disregard the film as a frivolous, pointless mess. "Spice World" is far from pointless; some people just missed the point. "Spice World" screenwriter Kim Fuller, brother of British music super-producer Simon Fuller, based his script on the Beatles' 1964 film "A Hard Day's Night," and "Spice World" is a subversive riff that's so much smarter than people give it credit for.
When "Spice World" hit theaters, the band was at the height of their popularity. Their debut album, "Spice," had soared to the top of the Billboard Top 100 and stayed there as their CDs and cassette tapes flew off the shelves. They were an international powerhouse, preaching "girl power" and rocking platform shoes and skin-tight outfits.

"Spice World" debuted 25 years ago, signalling the absolute zenith of the Spice Girls' celebrity and the phenomenon of Girl Power.
They've got fire in their eyes, hunger in their bellies, and great big shoes on their feet. For any girl who grew up in the '90s, there was one quintet of sassy, stomping women who embodied the era more thoroughly than anyone else. The Spice Girls weren't just a pop band: they were a genuine phenomenon. They sold millions of records and defined a kind of fierce young feminism that seemed tailor-made for the turn of the millennium. While their star burned briefly, it was bright and continues to cast a shadow over 25 years later. For some of us, Ginger, Scary, Posh, Sporty, and Baby Spice symbolized a brand of endless possibility and feminine force that felt like someone had blown the doors off the entire decade. And for one film,...

A petition to get Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield axed from ITV’s This Morning has reached more than 35,000 signatures.
Last week, the This Morning presenters were spotted inside Westminster Hall on a visit to the Queen’s lying in state, before her funeral on Monday (19 September).
Having been given access to a separate line for media while thousands of mourners waited for hours, the pair were accused of “skipping the queue”.
ITV denied this allegation. “They did not jump the queue, have VIP access or file past the Queen lying in state – but instead were there in a professional capacity as part of the world’s media to report on the event,” producers said in a statement.
On Tuesday morning’s show (20 September), the pair addressed the issue live on the programme, with Willoughby telling audiences: “Please know that we would never jump a queue.

Melanie C’s arms are raised like a champion fighter. I spy the famous Celtic armband tattoo. I clock the muscles. And then she bellows, “Super Muuuuum!” before dissolving into eye-crinkling laughter. The singer was recently away with her 13-year-old daughter and her friends; one went out too far on a paddle board, and C – short for Chisholm – swam to the rescue.
It wasn’t her first superhero-ish moment. At the height of Spicemania, when media interest was at its most intense and unboundaried, a Sun journalist accompanied her to meet a just-discovered half-sister, Emma, in Llandudno. “How crazy is my life, right? I mean, what the f***?” she recalls now, eyes popping.
But once the photographers had gone, the siblings spent some time alone together on the beach. They spotted some boys who’d bullied Emma for – they thought – lying about having a Spice Girl for a sister. So Chisholm rocked up and,...

She was 23 at the time.
"We were in Istanbul," she recalled. So here we were the eve of the first-ever Spice Girls show, so I treat myself to a massage in the hotel."

For a show so focused on the insane actions of immoral superheroes, you'd think a regular guy like Billy Butcher might have some trouble shining in "The Boys." But as played by Karl Urban — to borrow one of the character's favorite adjectives — he's absolutely diabolical. Deceptively charismatic, blissfully flawed, and with a tragic backstory to boot, Butcher is a lot of things all at once throughout the comics and show.
For anyone else that might've been a challenge but Urban is as mesmerizing when he's fiddling with ideas on how to kill supes as he is heart-wrenching when suffering through dreams of his wife. He's also the perfect conduit for Butcher's particular brand of dark humor and his habit for hilariously convoluted pep talks — like his use of the Spice Girls as an analogy for keeping his team together. But Urban has also added to the character via his own suggestions to showrunner Eric Kripke.

Now that Elton John's formidable career as a rock 'n' roll legend has finally gotten the silver screen treatment, it would be remiss to ignore the countless other times the ostentatious performer has himself graced film with his presence: "Spice World," "Tommy," "The Country Bears" — all the classics, essentially. Though he had previously felt lukewarm to the idea of having his life and career turned into a slick Hollywood biopic, the legendary singer, pianist, and composer was incredibly happy with how "Rocketman" turned out, particularly with Welsh actor Taron Egerton's performance as Elton John himself.

Don’t be fooled: the Foo Fighters’ “Studio 666” is not some extended music video gimmick put out by Dave Grohl and company. It’s a real horror movie with a legit runtime, a plot and a script. And though they’re amazed the movie actually got finished and exists, Grohl isn’t fooling himself that they’re suddenly real actors either.
“First of all, it wasn’t that much of a stretch to be the Foo Fighters. You throw us backstage in a room, and we are a comedy troupe everywhere we go, that’s just what happens, for the last quarter of a century,” Grohl told TheWrap in an interview, the second part of which will be published Thursday. “And nobody is going for an Oscar here, by the way. Meat Loaf, who died Thursday at 74, will always be remembered for his contributions to rock music, but his career also spanned iconic films such as “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” and David Fincher’s “Fight Club.” The musician starred opposite Brad Pitt and Edward Norton in the latter as bodybuilder Robert “Bob” Paulson. As Meat Loaf revealed to The Av Club in a 2016 interview (via Insider), his time making “Fight Club” involved more than just acting.
“I hardly spent any time in my trailer for almost 10 months,” Meat Loaf said at the time. “I sat next to David the entire time. Well, not next to him – I would have driven him crazy – but close, like behind him, so I could see what was going on and what he was seeing. Are the Spice Girls planning a big screen reunion? Sadly, it doesn't seem likely—at least, according to Victoria Beckham, aka Posh Spice. Earlier this week, an industry insider claimed to British tabloid The Sun that the pop group is planning a sequel to their 1997 film Spice World. "They have approached a screenwriter who is considering working on the project and making tentative steps forward." Though the project is said to be in "early stages," they are talking to...

So bad it's good. That's a phrase that gets tossed around in reviews; and one I just know I am going to apply here.
But is it badly good? Or goodly bad?
Is it like Soap, a soap opera from the late Seventies that set out to spoof the genre in which it was created...and ended up gaining a plausible fan base in its own right? Or is it more like Rat Race, Spice World or Red Dawn (three picks I'm sure you will disagree with), wherein bad acting, ludicrous plot and a legion of directorial failures combine to draw you in.
If you've ever observed: “I can't believe I'm watching this” and continued to watch, it is... so bad it's good! You'll find this trope in anything prison-related. From Prisoner: Cell Block H to Dangerous Women to every other soap ever. We just love our heroines – especially our heroines!

In superheroics, taxes are apparently optional, because the only two things that are truly certain are death and rebirth. To that end specifically, X-Men founder Charles Xavier has assembled a team of five mutants, imaginatively christened The Five, to put the resurrectional studies of Moira MacTaggert into action following the establishment of the sovereign island nation of Krakoa.
The team of Fabio “Goldballs” Medina, Kevin “Proteus” MacTaggert, Joshua “Elixir” Foley, Eva “Tempus” Bell, and the first new mutant born after M-Day, Hope Summers, have perfected a process by which they were able to reproduce the bodies, powers, minds, and memories of their fallen brethren, thereby taking the insignificance of “comic book death” to an entirely new level.
