Flying Officer Charles Pickard, the unflappable pilot who smokes a pipe was killed with his Navigator (who does not appear in this film), in the famous Mosquito raid on Amiens Prison later in the war, by which time he had been promoted to Wing-Commander rank. The Second Pilot was played by Gordon Woollatt (who survived the war).
In order not to give away information to the enemy, RAF Mildenhall took the fictitious name of Millerton Aerodrome.
Many of the aircrew filmed within this film were to die in action during the Second World War.
Percy Pickard, who was the bomber pilot in this film, was the brother in law of actor Sir Cedric Hardwick and was killed leading the Amiens raid, Operation Jericho, in 1944.
