Insektors.
kazzie_shellshock1 December 2005
Insektors is a wonderful series that is definitely under-appreciated. To my knowledge, it was dubbed into two different English versions: one for North America and one for the UK. Both versions are very different, as the NA release has the original French names for the characters and most of the dialogue is the same, whereas, the UK version has different names, voice actors, and dialogue. I've seen both versions, and they're both great.

I really hope a release of any of the English versions will be available on DVD. I had to buy the series in French as an alternative. But I used to watch the show on Canadian TV, channel YTV, when they aired it a long time ago.

The spirit of the Magic Roundabout lives on.

A return to the days when the BBC would import French children's shows and add dubbed English dialogue ("Hektor's House," "The Magik Roundabout" etc), "Insektors" was a delightful komputer-animated show about warring insekts, one side dark and dreary and the other bright and kolourful; the latter always prevailed.

Though this predates "A Bug's Life" by years, neither is shamed by the other, which is high praise for both the French kompanies and for the people at Lunchtime Produktions (who did the English-language version). Extremely funny, and with episodes of just the right length to not outstay their welkome, "Insektors" is one of the best CGI kartoons television's offered - the makers of "Butt-Ugly Martians" never even kame klose. It would be interesting to see the original French versions, though - I'm not subtitlephobik.

(Note: The spellings aren't typos; every episode title would have "K"s flung onto the "C"s, especially if they were of the hard variety.)

Kids stuff - for kids of all ages.

This is a superb series, shows how well it can be done. Animation is excellent, esp for it's era, and the English voices nicely casted and well "acted". (I presume it's also available with french actors speaking in french - wonder if that's as good...) I've only had one opportunity to see it - and would set the alarm to wake up early enough to watch it on TV on Sunday mornings! If it ever comes out on video or DVD (so far as I know it hasn't yet) grab a copy for your kids - and watch it when they're asleep. If you don't have kids, get it anyway. Start making kids if necessary. :)
