• The second film in as many years in which Jude Law plays an entitled young man impersonated throughout the movie by someone else. The other film is Gattaca (1997).
  
  
• Dickie's suicide note is dated 6 January 1959, director Anthony Minghella's fifth birthday.

• The opera shown on the film is the end of Act II from Tchaikovsky's "Yevgeny Onyegin." In this particular scene, Lenski challenged his friend Onyegin for a duel over Olga, who had been engaged to Lenski at that time.
