A RESPONSE TO 'LOS OLVIDADOS'?
richardkassir19 August 2020
An interesting take on children surviving and overcoming extreme poverty in Mexico. It's an almost opposite view taken by the more famous Mexican film 'Los Olvidados' (1950) and maybe it's deliberately so, because 'Los Olividados' which was made six years earlier and shows child abuse, violence and abandonment without relief, was viewed in many Countries. This film concentrates on the different stories of three basically 'good' boys who get into trouble because of their circumstances. The presentation of how they're saved by the good offices of hospital doctors and psychologists looks pretty ridiculous today and can be clearly seen as propaganda, but the outdoor filming makes the movie a fascinating and rare document of its time.
