Your View of Comedy May Vary
david604012 May 2001
On the wrapper, this show purports to be a fast paced comedy, however I found not one laugh in this slow documentary like film shot with an abundance of non-standard camera angles. Don't be mislead by the view angle of the wrapper photo or the text. Nothing like that is in the film. The director's comment on the DVD says the story was created from his wife's experiences trying to get pregnant with the aid of modern medicine. The journey is painted like one into the heart of darkness punctuated by obvious gags. The film may find empathy with those who have made the journey but I doubt even those individuals will laugh.

great indie film!
crkcom25 February 2006
I just watched this film on the Lifetime Movie Network. Corinne Bohrer and Mo Gaffney are absolutely fabulous! ;) For an indie low budget film, this is a great production with an totally engaging story. I can imagine with a more substantial budget this film would have been a theatrical success. Film does a really wonderful job portraying the emotional and physical roller coaster women endure when they are faced with the challenges of starting a family. Finally, a film about infertility that isn't a total downer. The writer and director obviously have experienced this subject matter because the story is heartfelt. Jonathan Penner in perhaps his best role ever! The fertility statue scene was priceless! Also, loved the music. Did I detect Ursula 1000? Cool!!!

Corinne Bohrer Finally Gets the Lead
livitsanis26 May 2020
You know those actors that you absolutely love but who never get the recognition you think they deserve? Corinne Bohrer is one of those actors for me. I just adore her in everything she's been in. No matter the quality of the overall movie, I'll watch it for her, even Revenge of the Nerds IV. Apart from being ridiculously gorgeous, her comic expressiveness and loose, vibrant physicality are uniquely charismatic. As a massive fan, this movie was a gift, as I believe this is Bohrer's only lead role in a movie. She holds onto it and never lets go.

Bohrer plays Eve Jacobs, a woman nearing 40 and trying desperately to get pregnant. Shenanigans ensues as Eve joins a support group for similarly fertility-challenged women and tries to undergo treatments without her husband knowing. Wacky and silly, but with genuine wit and moments of sincere drama. Inconceivable is the kind of film few will leap to praise as a classic, but it's perfectly fine. A solid, well-written comedy. I mean, there are plenty of big-budget Hollywood comedies that have nowhere near the charm and satisfaction on offer here.

One terrific movie...mainly because we have been there and done that.

What a jewel. Don't remember this is the movie theatre. It was terrific and hit home for a lot of us. Done in a very very funny way. We loved every moment of it. And wish that those couples who are trying to have a baby not miss it. It says a lot, means a lot and we have been there and done that. Have both biological children and adopted children. Just great!

Any Movie With Corinne Bohrer Has To Be Good And This Is Her Best!
wrbeaman4 July 2001
This film is very similar to "A SMILE LIKE YOURS" in that it deals with a couple trying to have a baby. Corinne is outstanding in her role as "EVE" and this should be considered her best work ever. The characters are well cast as is the film well acted. Eve's husband,"Adam", must have an incredibly well paying job as their house has to be seen to be believed. In all, a great film. And if you didn't know Corinne from her past films (STAR KID, DEAD SOLID PREFECT, POLICE ACADEMY 4, ETC) or her short lived TV show "FREE SPIRIT" (She starred as "Winnie the witch)and many other works, you WILL be a fan. Eleven stars from this hometown fan.

for all you men out there

If you want to know why women do the things they do, this film might give you an insight into why it happens.

Eve is married to Adam (watch out for the biblical refs.) and is unable to conceive. Eve actually "conspires" to get pregnant and the film is about her resolve to have a baby. Nice film to watch on a lazy sunday afternoon.

it's okay *SPOILERS*
tigerdee4131 July 2004
Warning: Spoilers
i think the title was perfect because I felt that what some of these women were doing was inconceivable. Some of the women in that movie were in a way stealing sperm from their husbands/boyfriends just so they could have a baby. Most just cared about getting pregnant and had little concern for their relationships or the wishes of their husbands/boyfriends. The movie brought up an age old belief that most women still have which is once they get pregnant everything will will work out and their relationships will be okay. Don't get wrong the movie didn't suck but I didn't like it that much because I couldn't understand how those women could go through the lengths they did to get pregnant including with holding info from their spouses. Maybe it's just me.
