With the release of Marilyn Monroe flicks Bus Stop and Niagara and the Elvis Presley Western Love Me Tender, Fox continues its roll-out of classic films remastered for HD and the result is something to behold. The merits of Elvis and Marilyn’s acting abilities aside, the films themselves look stunning on Blu-ray, with the beautiful cinematography of Niagara (courtesy of Joseph MacDonald) standing out above the rest. As for the films themselves, Love Me Tender and Niagara tie for the most appeal when it comes to story, with the former framing a love triangle with the fallout of a post-Civil War (by a matter of days) heist and a Hitchcockian murder tale where all Marilyn has to do most of the film is swoon or look beautiful.

From the time that Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was released as the first feature-length animated movie in 1937, it took the Academy 54 years to recognize the medium with a Best Picture nomination. That honor went to 1991’s Beauty and the Beast, which set the stage for Disney’s decade-long string of traditionally animated hits and proved that “cartoons” deserved to be taken as seriously as their live-action counterparts. Don Hahn was Beauty’s sole credited producer at the Oscars, and though the film ultimately lost to The Silence of the Lambs, he insists that the nomination itself was reason enough to celebrate.

Reg Traviss has paid tribute to "genuine" Amy Winehouse, on what would have been her 28th birthday. Speaking to The Sun, the director confirmed that he and the late singer had discussed marriage. Traviss told the paper that "my Amy" should be remembered among icons including Elvis and Marilyn Monroe. "Of all the people I have known, Amy was the most genuine," he said. "She lived a very normal life. She was really good to live with. She liked watching TV a lot. She liked to make me something to eat when I got in from work. She liked making food and cooking. That was important to her. "If I got home late she would wait up. She was maybe a bit old-fashioned. She was very feminine. She was domestic, she enjoyed being like that." Traviss said that the couple would have been on holiday in the Caribbean to celebrate Amy's birthday.

Move over Elvis and Marilyn Monroe impersonators on the Strip, Sarah Palin made her stand-up comedy debut Tuesday night on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and announced, "I picked up a gig in Las Vegas at the 'Legends' show playing Tina Fey." On his second night back on the late-night job, Jay took a step out of the spotlight, allowing Sarah to deliver a monologue. Before beginning, she poked fun at herself for the mishap in which she was caught with notes on her hand as she spoke at an event. She promised to do her comedy bit without cue cards or notations, saying, "I will know these jokes like the front of my hand." Glad to have a break in L.A. from the frigid winter weather in her home of Alaska, the former Vice-Presidential nominee compared the two states: "Here, when people have a frozen look on their face,...
