Imtiaz Ali’s short film India Tomorrow is so earnest and politically correct it seems like a propaganda piece for the ruling regime…A Films Division documentary with cuss words. Or a pitch for a debate in the Parliament with some unparliamentary language thrown in to woo the generation that swooned swayed and hallucinated to Rockstar.
In its bid to do some “cool” counter-stereotyping the 5 minute film throws forward an embarrassment of nobility wrapped in consumerist cornucopia. So we meet a prostitute in her play-pen, the bedroom. Luckily Imtiaz Ali has not cast Nargis Fakhri as the prostitute. I don’t know who the actress is since her name is not featured in any credit details.
Like all filmy sex workers from Sharmila Tagore in Mausam to Kalki Koechlin in Dev D, this prostitute is spicy, savvy and sharp-tongued. She knows the share market….umm…in and out, much to...

Following the outcry against Pahlaj Nihalani's list of banned words in films issued on Friday, which includes a long list of expletives, Nihalani spoke out to explain why the list (which includes 13 English and 15 Hindi words) had to be sent out, and to whom. Baffled by the protests Nihalani says, "Firstly, I don't know how the list came out in the public domain. We didn't send out the list to the media or even to members of the censor board. Therefore one board member (Ashoke Pandit)'s hue and cry that he wasn't consulted about the list is not only invalid it is also unethical." The Chairperson says the list of words not to be used in films, was prepared and sent as per the guidelines of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to film producers. "It is meant to provide a safety platform to film producers. These are...

He broke all the rules of stardom and yet was a star, a romantic hero and an all-rounder par excellence. 47 was no age for one of Hindi cinema's brightest talents to go, but on November 6, 1985, Sanjeev Kumar passed away, leaving fans, friends and the Hindi film shell-shocked. Gulzar remembers Sanjeev Kumar "For me, he was the complete actor. I have always said that I had two anchors - one was Sanjeev Kumar, and the other was R.D.Burman. What most people do not know is that I knew Haribhai (as I called him) from the late 1950s. We were both with the Indian National Theatre where I would write for the plays and he was a stage actor. Sanjeev was a student of P.D.Shenoy, who was also teaching at the Filmalaya School of Acting and later turned film director. Sanjeev was just over 20 years old, and he was playing a father!

Whether it’s Arjun Rampal’s look in Ra.One or Shahid Kapoor’s look in Mausam, the people associated with the movie have tried to keep the look of the characters under wrap, albeit with little success.
