Very compelling animation and the books are even better!

Just a couple of comments for michaelrocks68, whose review was negative... If you had stuck around to see the entire series, you might have changed your mind. The series is entitled: Invasion America, not America Invasion and if you really thought it was so dull, I recommend you read the books written by Christy Golden. They are fantastic and as per usual, out do the film work... hands down!! If you're looking for innovative animation, you might start with Titan AE. The animation is wonderful and a seamless integration of 2D and 3D adds some fascinating realism. the story is fantastic and the characters have depth! I still think Invasion America deserves two thumbs up!

Nifty idea

A primetime animated show that's not the Simpsons is a rare thing. "Invasion America" has a good basis, and a very talented cast - I'm BEYOND happy to see that it consists of REAL voice acting veterans like Kath Soucie and Jim Cummings, rather than relying on a cast entirely of celebrities, though Leonard Nimoy makes a great Konrad.

However, I find that the show is lacking in some places. First and foremost, I was expecting some cutting edge animation - real flashy, maybe even anime-style stuff. Instead, what I got was rather second-rate stuff, of lower quality that one might see on a high-end Saturday morning cartoon (I was at LEAST expecting stuff up to the quality of "Gargoyles"). The lighting and colouring is trying to be atmospheric, but just winds up making it look rather obscure. Also, the CGI, while nicely done, was seriously out of place.

The dialogue needed some help, too, although the actual language of the aliens was rather well implemented. I usually hate that sort of thing, but it didn't bother me here.

If you're a fan of animation, you should give the show a look. Outside of things like "Beast Wars," "Beast Machines" and "X-Men Evolution," very little enjoyable, watchable animation has come out of American studios in recent years (this whole "Anime" thing that's everywhere you go now...).

Loved this show!

I seldom watch TV, but this show really captivated me. I made a point of seeing every episode. Now, almost a year later, I'm still involved with it.

DreamWorks did a fantastic job with it. I really hope they'll give us the rest of the story -- there are so many unanswered questions!

Great animation by DreamWorks
Cale21 January 1999
I love this mini series that was shown on The Warner Bros. tv network this summer. We, the fans, understand there are five books involved in the telling of this hero myth in space. I hope that DreamWorks can produce at least the second installment, Book Two. They have become a sufficient competitor of Disney in that field, with their two animated releases this summer, ANTZ and PRINCE OF EGYPT.

INVASION AMERICA prempted an established tv series the nights it aired and that may have hurt its' ratings, but an animated show on prime time is unusual anywhere.

It just shows that a dramatic story can be told in the animation format.

First season great

I enjoyed watching this show, it's sad there wasn't a 2nd season added. there should've been better subtitle translations for the alien language

If you liked this show, ya might like watching Roswell Conspiracies: Aliens, Myths & Legends.

In the words of Eddie Murphy from Bowfinger "Awesome"
Jarek-628 August 1999
Invasion America was really great! I watched it thinking it might be alright. I thought it was going to be a tv video. Then they talked about the next episode, so I thought it was a series. I started to love the show, and then all of a sudden they say that they wrapping up the series, and I found out that it was actually just a miniseries. But anyway, it almost as cool as Star Wars. The story was ingenius. If you get the chance to see this, please do!

Invasion America
stevewest-12 July 2006
Invasion America made its way to Australia in a post-midnight timeslot and I was keen to see this work of Harve Bennett (who was heavily involved with the Star Trek movies). For an animated series it was pretty good and kept up the interest factor for me. The best thing about the series were the visuals, with a lot of attention paid to small details and crisp, clean artwork (done on computers presumably).

It was probably aimed at a teenage audience, but for this type of show you can't ask for much more. I'm still surprised it surfaced here, with all the stuff that never makes it (and I consequently never hear of until browsing forums).

The first prime time animated dramatic mini-series
Quantamm6 January 2000
Invasion America was the first prime time animated dramatic mini-series, but set itself apart in more ways than that. Produced by Steven Spielberg (E.T., Jurassic Park) and Harve Bennett (Star Trek), and voiced by Timothy Daly (From the Earth to the Moon) and Leonard Nimoy (Star Trek) it set new standards in animation, science fiction, and dramatic story telling. In the six, forty-five minute episodes it takes time to tell the story from the first book (of five?) there are a few spots where the dialogue could be better, or where the plot could be stronger, but these are few and far between. The story ends strong with a few good strings where the next story will pick up. Overall an excellent mini-series!

Sometimes good, sometimes disappointing
Robert-1329 August 2000
Warning: Spoilers
Technically, Invasion America was fairly impressive. It appeared to be an attempt to translate Japanese animation techniques onto North American television. In that, it was relatively successful.

Unfortunately, the plot resembled something out of a B-movie. David is a young man with an alien heritage who discovers that his uncle is planning to invade America. During his quest, he finds a presidential fort WITHOUT a working fence, asteroids that hit the earth causing explosions only slightly larger than the rocks themselves, a character who can apparently read subtitles, and villains who conveniently speak in English to each other whenever an earthling is around.

If there hadn't been so much to laugh at, this would have truly been a groundbreaking series. Sadly, at best it is a curiosity.

A great series that stopped abruptly and vanished...
lordameth29 January 2002
I don't remember this series too well, since it aired some years ago, and I havent been able to see it since. But, I do remember it being a great great series, one of the few decent things to come out of American animation studios lately (they're too taking perfectly good anime and screwing them up to make them bad for the American audience). While much could be said about plot holes and stuff like that, I won't say it, because not everything needs to be analyzed that closely. This show got me really excited and interested, and i was glued to the set while it was on... The only problem with the show is that it ended almost without being expected to... it didnt end as neatly and cleanly as a TV miniseries should, and it really really should have returned the next summer. I remember that last night, seeing the final screen "end of book one" and waiting, wondering why there was never an ep saying "beginning book two"...

Not impressed....
YouKnowMyName6826 October 2005
I remember when this was being touted and praised for being groundbreaking or lines along this on TV guide and that this was a work produced by the great Steven Spielberg. Hmmm. I was very excited about, 1. Evening Animation show! 2. Genre: Science-fiction, action and 3. Finally, variety of evening programs just like in Japan, where they have movies featuring live filmed actors and then there are the animation shows they have: So much variety, so much inspiration, all manner of quality.

So, when this American Invasion aired on Channel 4 or 5 here in California, my anticipation disappeared as the look of the dull animation combined with the familiar dull story and just the monotony of it, it no longer held my interest and it is a false hope. Nothing for me to see, moved right along. It isn't anything. Nothing innovative. Just big hype announcements and a name behind it, but for me, again, nothing there.

A cliched letdown.
Arnold-1014 May 2000
This TV series has received some praise here for being some "groundbreaking" sci-fi, dramatic animated TV series in prime time. The dialog was absolutely weak, the plot was flimsy, and much of it seemed to be cliches taken from tons of other science fiction programs. Now while I don't have a problem with borrowing ideas, unlike something like Star Wars, it doesn't transcend them and create something new. Plus the animation was uninspired, and the CG stuck out like a sore thumb.

There are better dramatic animation titles with adult appeal than this on television. Watch Gundam Wing Uncut, which has the same level of violence and language, plus relatively original plot elements that haven't been used 100 times already. Or watch the hugely underrated Beast Wars, Batman, or Gargoyles.
