- New York businessman Arnold Hammond, who suffers from the ravages of alcoholism, places himself under the care of a skilled physician in a Nova Scotia fishing village. There he falls in love with the doctor's daughter, Ruth Storm, and conquers his alcoholism. However, Ruth is fascinated by a handsome but reckless fisherman, Pierre Lemoyne, and is unsure which man to choose. One day, Arnold invites Ruth to go sailing and hires Lemoyne to navigate the boat. The hard-drinking Lemoyne assaults Arnold and capsizes the boat. The three are eventually saved by a passing tugboat, and once safely on board, Ruth realizes that Arnold is the better man.
- Arnold Hammond, a New York businessman, after an attack of delirium tremens brought on by drinking to excess, to forget business troubles seeks treatment of Dr. Storm, an old physician, who prefers the quiet of a fishing village to the turmoil of the city where his skill in nervous disorders might have made him famous. Hammond falls in love with Ruth, the doctor's daughter, and it is largely through her influence that he is able to conquer the habit which has nearly ruined him. But Ruth has become fascinated by Pierre Lemoyne, a handsome devil-may-care fisherman, and seems unable to choose between them. Hammond buys a small sailing vessel with a gasoline engine and Pierre, being skillful in handling small boats, is engaged as crew for the first cruise. When Ruth goes aboard she is startled to find herself off for the afternoon with the two men, between whom she is unable to decide. Lemoyne shows his true nature in many ways before the day is over. He refuses to put back when it is seen that a storm is brewing, accusing Hammond of cowardice. The boat is upset and they are rescued by a fishing vessel. Lemoyne procures a bottle of whiskey and proceeds to drink freely and tries to make Hammond drink. The latter, though terribly tempted, refuses, and Lemoyne, enraged, beats him savagely. Ruth's eyes are opened to the relative value of the two men and she accepts Hammond's love and promises to marry him.—Moving Picture World synopsis
