A year after the Election That Shocked The World, Donald Trump has permeated almost every ounce of popular culture — especially television. Just about everything on the small screen these days ends up being interpreted through a political lens. Even things that once weren’t politicized have now been thrust into that world.
That’s probably not surprising, given that the President of the United States is someone who has been obsessed with ratings, and winning an Emmy, over the years. He’s someone who spends all day consuming — and tweeting about — cable TV news, and often treats big announcements like he’s revealing the winner on “The Apprentice.” And that’s led to real-life storylines that would be dismissed as too outlandish or unbelievable if they were actually written on the page.

The 2016 presidential election was a surreal period, with a November 8 outcome that unfolded with the intensity of a horror movie — you know, the kind where the monster that supposedly died a few minutes earlier springs back to life to launch a whole new franchise. Of course, some members of the electorate felt differently. Depending on your point of view, the Trump victory was either a traumatizing jolt or a happy ending, and as the one year anniversary looms we’ve got movies that wrestle with both sides of the equation.
One them is a sequel. In 2008, film distribution executive Jeff Deutchman launched the crowdsourced “11/4/08,” gathering footage from countless filmmakers who captured the highlights of a historic voting day. The result was a rah-rah celebration of the Obama victory on a personal scale, with intimate bonding scenes at voting stations and giddy faces generating a kind of utopian fever. In retrospect,...

(Major spoilers ahead for the Sept. 26 episode of “American Horror Story: Cult.”) “American Horror Story: Cult” jumped back in time in its fourth episode, “11/9,” and filled in some much-needed gaps on who’s in the cult — and who might be. The episode went back to follow several key characters from Election Night up to the show’s present. It presented a ton of new information about Kai Anderson (Evan Peters), who originally seemed like a regular bigot. As it turns out, Kai has been adjusting his apparent beliefs to recruit a number of people to his murdery cause, and this.

American Horror Story: Cult opts for a flashback episode this time, showing us more of reporter Beverly Hope and the anger felt by the population and characters after Election Night. Not only do we get some of the characters' backstories in "11/9," but we also finally learn the truth about whether the clowns are real.

Its kind of ridiculous to think I can’t even type a review of ‘American Horror Story: Cult‘ so far without worrying about someone reading into it the wrong way. That may just be my own personal paranoia (or phobia if you will) but the truth is I struggle to talk about this years storyline without worrying who sides with who. And for viewers picking a side..I hate to say it, but you’re watching wrong. The whole point of Paulson and Peters’ character is to give you an extreme perspective of the political spectrum. A lot of viewers seem to translate that into Democrat vs. Republican. That’s not what I am saying in the slightest. If you have watched these first three episodes, then you already realize neither of these characters actually represent the principals of either party. Instead, they showcase the intolerable aspects of people using...

American Horror Story likes to take tropes we see in popular horror and add its own spin. This has proven to be a success, but also a failure for fans. American Horror Story: Cult now looks at fear itself, and looks at how it is affecting the world around us…oh and yes, it also features clowns.
Taking us back to election night, we witness the extreme reactions to Donald Trump winning the election. On one side, we have Ally (Sarah Paulson) in tears and fear of what is to come for her small family. On the other side Kai Anderson (Evan Peters), jubilant that Trump has won. Both having extreme reactions to the fear the election brings, what will happen when the polar opposites clash?
The first episode of American Horror Story: Cult has one job to do, and that is set up what we have to expect from season 7 of the popular show.

(Some light spoilers ahead for the premiere of “American Horror Story: Cult”) “American Horror Story: Cult” kicks off with the most real-world setting the show has used: Election Night, 2016. And when Donald Trump wins, several characters take it pretty hard. But nobody struggles with the news quite so badly as Sarah Paulson’s character, Ally, whose many phobias and anxieties are triggered by the election. As the announcement hits the airwaves that Hillary Clinton conceded to Trump, Ally starts sobbing and struggling to cope. “American Horror Story: Cult” opens on Election Night 2016. One group of progressive-minded voters gather to stare at the results in disgust and denial, while a young man sitting in his basement restrains his jubilation until it bursts free, his hips thrusting the television set sharing the news: Donald Trump is the next president of the United States.
“It’s the politics of fear: It always works,” someone says.
It’s not hard to see how Ryan Murphy arrived at his premise for “Ahs” Season 7. To say that many Americans have been living out their own personal horror story isn’t an overstatement — not with border closings, hate speech, and potential treason all enabled by the White House — but the new season manages to undermine the left’s legitimate fears and amplify the right’s monstrous traits all in one frenzied mess of an allegory.

Ryan Murphy is ready for if – or when – Donald Trump posts a tweet about “American Horror Story: Cult.” Murphy told reporters Friday that he would hope that the president “would have more important things to do.”
But the producer also said he’s realistic: “I would be so shocked if he did, and yet not… My response would be I’m not going to respond to that, because the work speaks for itself. I’m prepared to say nothing.”
Murphy said he expects audiences to have an “emotional response” to “Cult,” especially given that the season kicks off on Election Night 2016. And he knows some right wing critics will dismiss “Cult” because of his politics.

Right now, a lot of us are still riding high on The Defenders, and those who have yet to watch the Netflix original series all the way through probably still have their mind occupied with the goings of the Hand in New York City. Yet, despite The Defenders either still being on your radar, or being just in your rear view mirror, Netflix still has another big Marvel show on the horizon in 2017, and that’s The Punisher.
Frank Castle’s the Punisher made his McU debut on the Netflix series Daredevil back in early 2016, and the character was such a breakout hit that Marvel opted to go forward with a series of his own. The tail end of Daredevil saw the anti-hero donning a vest with a skull spray-painted on it, and going forward, it made sense that that’s the look we’d continue with that look.

The drama with HBO and the hackers continue. For those who don’t know, HBO’s been having some real security problems as of late. Not only have they suffered with some internal leaks, but a group of hackers has infiltrated the studio, and has previously released scripts for the episodes early. During a special fan-driven event that took place at San Diego Comic-Con, it was announced that season 7 has been dubbed American Horror Story: Cult. It’s not the most exciting or informative reveal, but it does at least paint...

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie was one of President Trump’s most vocal supporters during the campaign, but his germ-infested cell phone might have cost him a White House job, according to a new book obtained by the Daily Mail. “Devil’s Bardain: Steve Bannon, Donald Trump, and the Storming of the Presidency,” hits stores on Tuesday. Ahead of its release, The Daily Mail obtained excerpts, including Christie’s plan to receive a call from President Obama on Election Night. “If you win he’s going to call my phone, and I’ll pass it over to you,” Christie allegedly told Trump,...

This could be the year that Julia Louis-Dreyfus makes Emmy history.
Nominated once again for playing Selina Meyer on HBO’s “Veep,” Louis-Dreyfus is the favorite to win her sixth consecutive Emmy as outstanding comedy actress. In doing so, she would beat the record for most Emmys won by a performer in the same role for the same series.
Right now, Louis-Dreyfus is in a three-way tie with Candice Bergen (“Murphy Brown”) and Don Knotts (“Andy Griffith Show”). All three thesps won five Emmys for their roles on those shows. Now, Louis-Dreyfus is poised to leap ahead.
What’s more, she’s also in line this year to tie Cloris Leachman for the most Emmys ever won by a female performer. Leachman has eight; Louis-Dreyfus has seven – tied with Mary Tyler Moore and Allison Janney. (Janney, of course, is competing with Louis-Dreyfus in the comedy...

When Ivanka Trump asked Cecile Richards for a private meeting earlier this year, the Planned Parenthood president’s hopes won out over her deep differences
with the White House this First Daughter represented.
“Like her father, she knew Planned Parenthood did a lot of good. I felt she was incredibly sympathetic,” Richards recalls of that early-winter sit-down over coffee. “I hoped she would use her influence and her role to speak up for women in this country. But it’s not about talk. It’s about action.”

Laura Benanti’s “Melania Trump” returned to “The Late Show” last night for the first time since her uncomfortable appearance on Stephen Colbert’s Election Night special. This one went a lot smoother, and was far funnier — so no apology needed today, Laura. In the Tuesday sketch, Benanti-as-Melania guzzles wine to get through her recent move to the White House. She’s gonna need a bigger glass. The faux First Lady told Colbert that she really looked for an excuse to stay behind in New York City after son Barron’s school let out — unfortunately, the Comcast guy didn’t take as long as Melania.

First Lady Melania Trump is counting down the days, hours, minutes… and even the seconds until the end of her husband’s first (and, she mayyyybe wishes, only?) term as president of the United States.
Laura Benanti reprised her role as wife to President Donald Trump on Wednesday’s Late Show, marking the new mom‘s first appearance since Stephen Colbert’s live, Election Night special on Showtime. Calling in “via satellite” from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Flotus fought back tears as she assured the host that there were no more excuses for her to keep residing in her Trump Tower penthouse,...

Once political pundits recovered their breath after Election Night, they forecast Donald Trump's White House would resemble a reality TV show, chock-a-bloc with populist brawling. They were right. Four months in, viewers, and TV news networks, still are reveling in the chaos. Let us, then, count the ways in which President Donald Trump is running the White House along reality TV lines: 1. He's got a cabinet full of rich guys—like Shark Tank. 2. He has "the best…...

Between Donald Trump's unexpected rise to the presidency to Sean Spicer and Kennyanne Conway's unconventional relationship with the press, this season of Saturday Night Live, which came to an end over the weekend, has been one of the most political seasons in decades – and found a rich vein of material to tap on a weekly basis.

Scream Queens viewers know her as Chanel #3, but Billie Lourd will be entering a different world of Ryan Murphy's now that she's been added to the growing cast of FX's American Horror Story Season 7.
The news of Lourd's casting comes from multiple sources, including The Hollywood Reporter. Details on Lourd's role have yet to be revealed, but she joins a cast that currently includes Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, and the recently added Billy Eichner.
While official plot details for season 7 are unsurprisingly unknown at this time, American Horror Story co-creator Murphy told Andy Cohen this winter that the new season will start filming in June and is going to "be about the election that we just went through." Deadline also previously mentioned that the season 7 premiere will be "taking place on Election Night."

But we do know next season will be set in the aftermath of the 2016 presidential election, with the premiere taking place on Election Night. Ever since Warner Brothers released their 30th Anniversary edition Blu-ray of Being There back in 2009, I’ve been tempted to add the disc to my home library. I can recall several occasions where I actually had the case in my hand, and at least one where I took what I would normally consider that first decisive step toward the checkout line, ready to finalize the purchase. But lingering suspicions that this film would eventually find its way into the Criterion Collection always managed to pry the item out of my fingers and back onto the shelf. A few months ago, my reluctance was vindicated by the announcement that Being There would sure enough soon bear a Cc spine number, and this past week, it finally became available to take home for the contemplation of all of us who “like to watch.”
