Fans of the 2002 film 28 Days Later and its follow-up 28 Weeks Later have been waiting seventeen years for another entry in the franchise, hoping we’d someday see a movie called 28 Months Later. We’re not getting that one, but 28 Days Later director Danny Boyle and screenwriter Alex Garland are currently working on reviving the franchise, and they’re going to make this revival worth the wait. Not only are we getting a new movie called 28 Years Later, but we’re actually getting a whole trilogy of sequels! Sony just reported that the film is set for a June 20th, 2025 release date. But what else do we know about this 28 Years Later sequel trilogy.

If you have Hulu (or Disney Star in Canada), you might have noticed that Danny Boyle’s 28 Days Later is no longer available. Indeed, Disney lost the rights to the independently financed original film, with them now only owning the rights to the Searchlight-financed sequel, 28 Weeks Later. That’s why you can’t find it on streaming sites and why the Blu-ray Disc is out of print. Sony now owns the rights to the film, with it being part of the package they acquired when they bought the rights to finance the upcoming Danny Boyle/ Alex Garland sequel, 28 Years Later. So, presumably, Sony will be reissuing the film in the near future, and there’s a chance that when they do, it’ll look much better than it ever did before. But why?

Actors are asked to do a lot of potentially terrifying things in the name of their work, especially when filming horror movies. So it's not really a surprise that Irish actor Cillian Murphy was slightly scared about filming one particular scene in Danny Boyle's early 2000s film "28 Days Later," although the reasons behind his nervousness might not be what you think. Instead of panicking about filming a sequence with one of the movies' horrifying zombie extras or having to deal with some of the movie's more extreme horror aspects, Murphy was concerned about the brief nude scene that introduced his character to audiences. It's a rather brief moment, but it's honestly understandable that Murphy was a little nervous, as it's a full-frontal nude shot that shows off the uh, whole kit and caboodle.

Allow Robert Pattinson to introduce himself once again. He plays more than a dozen different versions of the same character, Mickey Barnes, in the upcoming science fiction thriller Mickey 17, helmed by the acclaimed South Korean filmmaker Bong Joon-ho.
Considering Pattinson’s acting credits from his earlier films, this portrayal appears to be difficult to pull off. As if we needed another reason to love Twilight fame, the skilled actor has once again proven himself to be a force to be reckoned with in the movie business.

One of the landmark films in the post-apocalyptic/ zombie horror flicks in the 2000s was the Cillian Murphy starrer 28 Days Later which was directed by Danny Boyle. The film was also the turning point of Cillian Murphy’s career whose performance impressed Hollywood and he started being noticed by prolific filmmakers in the industry.

In addition to Murphy, the film also starred Naomie Harris and Brendan Gleeson. The success of the film led to a sequel in 2007 titled 28 Weeks Later starring Jeremy Renner. A third film was announced recently with the original team returning including Boyle, Alex Garland, and Murphy. With the rumored addition of Jodie Comer in the film, fans are confused about the omission of Harris.

Months ago, we here at JoBlo started writing about an issue near and dear to the hearts of film fanatics everywhere – the resurgence of physical media. After being shocked by how difficult it was to find the Ron Howard movie Cocoon, I decided to make a list of 10 movies that were difficult to find, but the comments on the article clued me into the fact that the issue of out-of-print classics is far more widespread than I assumed. Last week, I did an article about how movies like The Cannonball Run and Dogma are missing, and in that vein, here are five more cult classics that are surprisingly tough to find.
Ricochet:
This 1992 action film was an early attempt to turn Denzel Washington into an action star. Despite stylish direction by Russell Mulcahy and an unforgettable turn by John Lithgow as the movie’s villain, it was only a modest success.

Just over two decades after unleashing a zombie epidemic, modern horror classic 28 Days Later is getting a new sequel. Maybe even a trilogy of sequels.
Danny Boyle and Alex Garland, the director and writer of the 2002 movie, are reuniting for 28 Years Later, a new zombie thriller that is expected to hit studios, streamers and other potential buyers later this week, according to multiple sources. WME, which reps Boyle and Garland, will take out the package and handle the sale.
The package isn’t just a simple modern sequel installment; the movie already had a follow-up with 28 Weeks Later, released in 2007. The duo were only involved with as executive producers on that film. Now, the hope is to launch a new trilogy.
Boyle is attached to direct the first installment. Garland would write all three. The budget for each movie would be in the $75 million range.

It’s always sad to see a channel depart from a streaming platform, but Philo users are now facing that reality. The “skinny bundle” live TV streaming platform which offers around 70 channels for just $25 per month is losing two selections from its lineup this month.

Cillian Murphy plays the lead character in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. An amazing actor in a movie that Nolan himself called “kind of a horror movie“? We’ll take it.
So, in that spirit we thought we’d take a stroll through the Peaky Blinders actor’s resume in both the thriller and horror genres. Hell, the last time Nolan and Murphy worked together they created one of the best horror aspects of The Dark Knight trilogy with the Scarecrow character!
Let’s take a look through Cillian Murphy’s career in the horror/thriller genres…

Murphy, who is currently doing the press rounds for Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer (where he plays the title character), had this to say about a 28 Days Later sequel: “I was talking to Danny Boyle recently, and I said, ‘Danny, we shot the movie at the end of 2000.’ So I think we’re definitely approaching the 28 Years Later. Welcome to The B-Side, from The Film Stage. Here we talk about movie stars! Not the movies that made them famous or kept them famous, but the ones they made in between.
Today we discuss one of our biggest, most enduring movie stars: Sandra Bullock! To do this, we’ve brought our good friend and the co-host of the great Almost Major podcast: Kevin Tudor!
Our B-Sides today include: Love Potion No. 9, 28 Days, The Lake House, and Our Brand Is Crisis. We dig into Bullock’s peaks and valleys as a star, her humble beginnings on TV (she played Tess on the TV adaptation of Working Girl!), and her breakout mid-90s.
We marvel at the incredible misogyny-tinged criticism she endured early on in her career, wonder if we’ll ever see the short film she directed, and discuss why we love (or don’t love!) The Lake House.

So many great stories in history start out with the key players hating each other — as it is in Netflix and A24’s “Beef,” streaming on Netflix in April. Amy (Ali Wong) and Danny (Steven Yeun) meet via parking lot bump turned action-movie car chase, their lives connecting and their road rage lingering in weeks and months after the incident. In reviewing the series, IndieWire’s Ben Travers said that “’Beef’ does a fine job balancing Amy and Danny’s practical intelligence and impractical passions; their bitterness toward the other driver ebbs and flows as their personal lives better or worsen, and it’s in these moments that the half-hour drama thrives.”

From a thwarted James Bond film to an upcoming “The Matrix” stage play, Danny Boyle knows the world of franchises.
Yet the one that is still intoxicating to the writer-director remains “28 Days Later,” which celebrated its 20th anniversary in November 2022. The concept for a third film, penned by Alex Garland (“Men”), has been a contagious idea since 2019.
In an anniversary panel discussion with director Boyle and “28 Days Later” lead Cillian Murphy, an update on the “lovely idea” for franchise installment “28 Months Later” was divulged.
“I’d be very tempted [to direct it],” Boyle told NME. “It feels like a very good time actually. It’s funny, I hadn’t thought about it until you just said it, and I remembered ‘Bang, this script!’ which is again set in England, very much about England. Anyway, we’ll see…who knows?”

Exclusive: Glamour Studios is partnering and producing alongside director Jessica Dimmock and her production company Tough Tina for a new feature documentary, 28 Days, based on an immersive multimedia package launching Thursday on Glamour.com. Dimmock will serve as executive producer along with Agnes Chu, Helen Estabrook and Sarah Amos for Conde Nast Entertainment.
The doc, which is already in development, will follow the experiences of new mothers and families to see the effects of paid leave — and the lack of it — in people’s lives. It is a safe assumption that anyone with even a casual awareness of popular culture knows an Alan Tudyk performance.
For science fiction fans, Tudyk may be Wash from Firefly, or K-2So from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. For fans of comic-book-based shows, he’s Joker and Clayface on Harley Quinn, or Mr. Nobody on Doom Patrol. Disney fans have their pick of comedic villains, and animal sidekicks. From comedies to drama to dramedy, Tudyk has one of the most recognizable and interesting careers in showbusiness.
But it is in his current role, on Syfy’s sci-fi comedy series Resident Alien, that Tudyk is receiving newfound recognition. Premiering its second season Wednesday, Jan. 26, at 9 p.m. Et, the show revolves around Tudyk’s extraterrestrial character who crash lands on our planet while trying to exterminate humanity. Netflix has provided an exceptionally strong collection of content for subscribers to enjoy in September. As a matter of fact, the inclusion of dozens of fantastic original shows and films alongside tons of memorable classics has made it it one of the platform’s best months ever. But today marks the end of a great run for the streaming giant before October’s big releases start up tomorrow, and while most of the best stuff has already landed earlier in the month, this final gift of new additions still has something left to offer.
Today’s most notable release is the film adaptation of the 1968 Broadway play The Boys in the Band. This LGBT-focused drama is based on the 2018 revival of the play and stars big names like Jim Parsons and Zachary Quinto in a story that follows a group of gay men in New York who get together to celebrate one of their birthdays.

Oscar-nominated scribe Susannah Grant will make her feature directorial debut on the project Catch and Release for Columbia Pictures. The log line of the project is being closely guarded -- it is described only as an emotional romantic comedy centering on a woman who is forced to deal with the untimely death of her husband and the secrets he kept from her. Jenno Topping, who produced the Grant-penned 28 Days, starring Sandra Bullock, is producing Catch and Release. According to sources, Grant is at work on a new draft of the script and is busy consulting with the studio on actresses to topline the project. At the studio, the project is being shepherded by Columbia co-president of production Matt Tolmach. The directing gig for Grant marks a turn from her string of high-profile writing-only projects. She penned the Fox 2000 project In Her Shoes, which is gearing up with Curtis Hanson at the helm and Cameron Diaz and Toni Collete starring. In the fall, she signed on to pen the live-action/CGI version of Charlotte's Web for Paramount Pictures. Her other credits include Universal/Columbia's Erin Brockovich, which earned Julia Roberts a best actress Oscar, and Columbia's 28 Days. Grant is repped by CAA.

28 Days (2000) star Sandra Bullock spent a week in a rehabilitation centre to research her alcoholic character - and it made her feel a new woman. The Speed (1994) star stripped away all the movie star pretence and became one with the group, divulging things about herself that family, friends or lovers didn't know about her. She explains, "The first day I gave them the whole run-down on my life which made them more comfortable because they realised I'm no different than they are except I'm in this crazy business that glamorizes things and makes it seem like there's no problems whatsoever... Those next four days were incredibly real and beautiful and some of the most honest time I ever spent with myself or with other people. I was more honest with these people than I'd ever been with my parents, or my friends.

Sandra Bullock has dropped everything and flown back to her Texan home following the death of her mother. The grieving Speed (1994) star was devastated to hear her mother, German opera singer HELGA MEYER, had passed away and immediately rushed to her mother's home. But her absence has left a few problems for the cast of her new movie 28 Days (2000) - who were expecting her to show up at the film's lavish Hollywood world premiere tomorrow. A source close to the star says, "Sandra is very upset and we don't think she'll be attending the premiere. "Obviously, at a time like this, she just wants to be with her family and friends." German-born Helga had previously worked alongside her daughter and sang on the soundtrack of her last movie Gun Shy (2000).
