Painful to watch, but not a total waste of time...

The film was excruciatingly dull, but at the same time I found something to admire about the way it portrayed the lives of a group of lost souls wandering the streets and red light districts of Hong Kong. Tony Leung was very good, but the rest of the cast was unimpressive, though not necessarily bad. The major fault of the film was the screenplay, which had almost nothing happen in 2 hours. I'm sure that was by design, but the point was for the most part lost on me.

"Slow" does not necessarily mean "boring", but in this case it does. You can see amongst other things a kettle boil for 30 seconds and countless scenes of people just sitting there without a word.

The story of a hardcore porn video retailer cheating on his wife with a prostitute... Doesn't sound appealing, does it ?... Well, there's barely more than that going on anyway...

Most of the time, the cinematography and the choice of colors are rather nice but is that enough to make this movie interesting ? I doubt it.
