Doing the splits is already impressive. But it can be outdone, as fitness trainer Katie Sonier proves by regularly weightlifting up to 65 lbs. while in a full split.
The Miami-based former gymnast says her aerobic moves started during her days as a college lacrosse player.
“I love doing silly, yet impressive, things with my body!” Sonier, 25, tells People. “Whenever I fell on the field I would do either some sort of split roll or gymnastic move out of it. My teammates thought it was hilarious.”

A short one act play, in response to this recent hubbub during the Wizard World Chicago Comic Con.
To boob, or not to boob, that is the question:
Whether ’tis nobler in the mind of cosplayers to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fans and parents
Or to take arms against a sea of tsk-tsks,
And by opposing, end them.
To diet (to fit in a form-fitting costume) – to sleep on the floor of your con hotel suite –
No more; and by a sleep to say we end
The heartache, and the thousand natural shocks
That the display of flesh is heir to. ‘Tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wish’d of the fans to see.
For those not playing along, let’s cut to the chase. This past weekend, a cosplay maven – with distinct permission to come in her much-worked-upon Silent Hill cosplay – was jeered and leered at by some in the crowd,...

The roles have been reversed for Julia Brystygier (Maria Mamona), the once powerful colonel in the Ussr’s Ministry. She interrogated countless enemies of the state, namely Catholics who rejected the communist concepts ruling them. The human body was her canvas, torture her paintbrush — nothing was out of bounds as far as acquiring the information she sought. But that was years ago. Now she’s a private citizen like the masses trying to survive. A lucky one too considering many of her superiors during that period are now in jail or dead for the crimes they committed. Julia’s prison is therefore self-imposed. Where confidence and control used to reside is now only fear, guilt, and regret. Her solitary hope for salvation becomes forgiveness from a God she doesn’t believe exists.

Visiting a movie set is always an adventure into the unknown. Will you be on a sound stage or oudoors? On location or in the comfort of a climate controlled warehouse? In the case of Lionsgate’s “The Last Witch Hunter” last November, the answer was weirdly…“yes.” It was a cold day in Pittsburgh when the publicist herded us onto the bus to see Breck Eisner’s vision for a world of witches and those who hunt them. I’d been told to dress for the weather and be prepared for a long day, none of which sounded appealing. Who wants to be outside for twelve hours in sub-freezing temperature? No one. Driving through a Pittsburgh forest stripped bare for the winter, Lionsgate had other plans. We were about to enter the literal underground world of “The Last Witch Hunter.” Pittsburgh is rich with abandoned limestone mines like the one converted by Wampum Underground.

The human body is an incredible machine, but when it goes wrong, things can get pretty bizarre, pretty quickly.
As our bodies are so complicated, it’s frankly pretty miraculous that most of us end up with a few limbs, a face and a sparkling personality given the sheer amount of things that could go wrong.
With every replicated cell, with every bump on the head and with every day that passes, there are a million different things that could happen to your body (and mind) that might end up in some kind of malfunction. How would you react if one day you woke up and you skin was a different colour? How about if you were suddenly unable to speak?

To begin with, you might think that Gut Fermentation Syndrome sounds like a dream come true, but it’s probably a nightmare in reality.

Hey, wanna see the most complex machine on Earth, controlled by the most powerful computer known to man?
Look in the mirror.
The human body is amazing. The brain can process millions of bits of data in the blink of an eye, the heart can pump blood around 100,000 miles of blood vessels and your stomach acid could easily dissolve metal.
There are some incredible milestones in the lifespan of one human body that make it amazing, like giving birth or repairing broken bones, but there are some things that the body does every day that you wouldn’t even think about, but you’d definitely miss them if they stopped.
Everything from powering hundreds of your muscles to simply keeping you standing upright is all in a day’s work for the body, and most of its amazing feats would pass you by without you ever noticing.

1.6 War
Somewhere in my review notes I wrote down a series of tropes that get rolled out when writers have either lost all interest or run out of actual ideas. To get one of them in a show isn’t good, two is really bad, but War managed to deliver no fewer than four of them!
Those would be:
The hidden tunnel The parental revelation The selfless, but pointless death A person who is dead, who isn’t
On top of that I’d also throw a bad TV bonus score for a character that is only useful in one highly implausible situation being available.
But before we get to that, War starts where End Of The Rope ended, with Adam and his father. I’d give Adam’s father a name,...

Japanese Anime Kill La Kill kicked into a whole new gear in 2014. We salute a daring, daft series available now on Netflix...
Kill La Kill. Regardless of what it means - allegedly it’s a series of Japanese double-entendres - that title is a bomb-blast: two kills and a dose of French sophistication for good measure. It's a violently amusing name for the anime series, promising claret by the bucketload, a ticking brain (or just the right amount of snark) and the everlasting appeal of total nonsense. Logic may apply, be it worldly or otherwise, but you're already set for the rules to be broken.

John Ruskin, as any liberal arts grad will tell you, is famous less for being the defining voice of Victorian art criticism and more for the putative story of his wedding night: He gazed upon his bride’s naked body, saw her muff, and fled in horror. Ruskin died in 1900, but our own repulsion at and fascination with female pubic hair continues to mirror his. The human body holds myriad uncanny sites, but few are as contested or as overdetermined as the female mons. Hairy or bare, it’s rife with meaning, intrigue, and analysis. It’s also the shiny, glossy, four-color subject of Marilyn Minter’s glam new art book, Plush. If you could epitomize the art world’s consensus on female pubic hair in art into a phrase you could paint on a wall, it’d go like this: Ruskin Lives! Like Frodo, like Morrison, like Che, Ruskin...

When treating the sick physicians and healers would ask a few questions to isolate problems and prescribe solutions based on the current knowledge of the human body knowledge that went unchanged for 2000 years (450 BC 1550 Ce). The human body was treated like any other apparatus with working parts much like a wagon or windmill and the methods applied to treat it reflected this. Although they made sense to people at the time by todays standards they are comparable to torture methods as seen in movies such as Hostel and Would You Rather.

Isn’t it horrible when you swallow a fly? Or find a spider in your hair? Well, consider yourself lucky they’re not living inside your head.
The human body is covered with several orifices that are pretty much an open invitation for things that crawl, slither or (shudder) scuttle – and once they find a way in, you’re gonna have a bad time.
Extreme body invasions of this kind are rare, and usually happen when people visit foreign lands and are unfortunate enough to have flies use their ears as nests to raise their young.
That said, you’ll be surprised at just how many people inflict this disturbing stuff on themselves. Seriously, the eel in the image above doesn’t look that horrified for any old reason – he’s been dark places – seen things no eel should ever see, man.
What follows are real life stories...
Isn’t it horrible when you swallow a fly? Or find a spider in your hair? Well, consider yourself lucky they’re not living inside your head.

The human body might just make for the best canvas!Tonight "Skin Wars" premieres on Gsn, pitting the best body painters in the country against each other as they transform regular people into works of art."X-Men" star Rebecca Romijn -- who knows a thing or two about being covered in paint -- hosts the new series, while the one and only RuPaul and body painting "icons" Craig Tracy and Robin Slonina serve as judges. The winner of the eight-episode competition will go home with a year supply of paint, be featured at a Big industry trade show and nab $100,000 in cash. Not too shabby! While future episodes will feature guest judges like original Wonder Woman Lynda Carter and "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" star Carson Kressley, we've got your sneak peek at tonight's premiere above.Check out the clip to see what these contestants are able to pull off in just 5 hours,...

Archer, FX’s vulgar and totally awesome spy spoof, has long been one of the funniest shows on television, and it took hilarity to new heights last season by removing its lead characters from their Cold War-esque spy office and turning them into international drug smugglers.
Archer Vice, as it was titled, found Pam turning into a ravenous Cocaine Monster, Cheryl utilizing a mind-control trip to become a country singer named Cherlene and Krieger meeting his Nazi clone brothers, among other incredible developments. Some dynamics were changed for good – Lana now has a baby, named A.J., who will become a major part of the show in season 6.
According to creator Adam Reed, season 6 will mark a return to (relative) normality for the Isis gang. Vice, he said, was viewed from the outset as a fun, outside-the-box year:

The top half of Ben Affleck’s new Batsuit has been revealed, as created by costume designer Michael Wilkinson for the barely in production Batman vs. Superman. At first this black and white Bats looks kind of pettable, thanks to those smaller, kittenish bat ears. However getting in closer the suit is far more visceral than Lindy Hemming’s version for director Christopher Nolan. It actually resembles a (very buff) human body stripped of its skin.
Closer look at top half of the new Batsuit with contrast lightened slightly.
Nolan is where most comparisons will be drawn; his Batman is still the benchmark in cinema, and while director Zach Snyder is less obsessed with plausibility the new suit is obviously intended to be functional as well as iconic. We can go back to the comics, Burton movies, Schumacher movies, art deco inspired animated series, even the sixties TV show, but...

I was as skeptical as anyone before walking into Transcendence. I figured I knew exactly where it was going to go: man (Johnny Depp) is uploaded into a computer, wife (Rebecca Hall) believes it's still him to a damaging degree, computer man gets drunk on power, harms humanity and wife is eventually forced to pull the plug. And, if you look at it simply on the surface level, that's exactly what Transcendence is and the filmmaking and love story is largely detrimental to the overall quality, but there is so much more to grasp onto than this film is given credit for. Whether offering ideas and discussion points makes a movie worth seeing I won't argue, but I felt a need to lay out exactly what I took away from Transcendence in hopes it might make people look at it a little differently or at least give it a chance...

The human body is a lot like a car engine—it needs the right fuel in it to perform correctly. Unlike a car engine, people can often suffer from various sensitivities and allergies to certain food types and other environmental factors. As anyone who’s suffered from such problems can attest to, it can be tough to find out exactly what’s causing the issue. Enter TellSpec, a futuristic spectrometer that could really be a gamechanger. The gadget, having recently been funded via an Indiegogo project is a handheld wireless scanner that analyzes food to work out exactly what it’s made of. While...

Your muscles contort. Your skin bubbles and stretches. Your loins throb and your limbs writhe. You thrash in the throes of excruciating pain and agonizing pleasure. Before you even realize your body has betrayed you, like a snake shedding its skin, you are born anew. Perhaps the most visceral of the horror genres, body horror represents the most intimate of all fears. It’s the inescapable sensation that the shell housing every synchronized component keeping you alive is under attack. Yet it is more than simple infection; it is metamorphosis, a mutation that does not always spell death. More so, it may even be the start of a beautiful new life.
The human body has long been the enemy of horror films. One only has to look as early as The Invisible Man or The Wolfman for manifestations of physical forms undergoing irrevocable change. But the body horror genre encompasses...

Forget about the socially conscious core that fueled the exploitation engine of the first film. This one is flat-out, no-message action comedy, outrageous and hilarious. I’m “biast” (pro): loved the first film
I’m “biast” (con): nothing
(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)
It started with a trailer: a fake movie ad “left over” from the 1970s for a Mexploitation flick dropped into Quentin Tarantino’s Grindhouse… which Robert Rodriguez later expanded into the very funny and pointedly satirical full-length Machete. Now, the sequel, Machete Kills, opens with a new fake 1970s relic trailer, for, heh, Machete Kills Again in Space. It hints at a completely ridiculous expansion of the Machete legend into Star Wars-era space opera, and it’s as many degrees of insanity beyond where Machete Kills will take you as Kills is beyond the first flick.
Rodriguez: Never let it...

The human body is a beautiful, blank canvas. It changes form when covered by different outfits and accessories, but when the frivolities are stripped away, it can be a raw platform for creative expression. Right, Lady Gaga? The 27-year-old pop star recently bared it all in the name of art, showing off her completely uncensored figure in a video for a Kickstarter campaign to fund the Marina Abramovic Institute, an organization dedicated to preserving creative works. But Mother Monster is far from the first celeb to show some skin. Check out these stars who've worn only their birthday suits in the name of their craft! Fuck for Forest use porn to spread their green message. In a new documentary, they are taken to the Amazon to meet a threatened Peruvian tribe. But how can they rescue the planet when they can barely look after each other?
"Blood and sperm. The perfect mix," says a tattooed hippy, as he licks both off his hands, having just had sex with a woman in front of a small audience in a Berlin basement. "Life-giving fluids we are all so afraid of. We're so afraid of ourselves! It's all organic." It's not everyone's idea of popular entertainment, but this scene can be experienced at a safe distance in a new documentary, F*ck for Forest, detailing the activities of the group of the same name (without the asterisk). They enjoy confronting society with sex, nudity and bodily fluids, but what Fuck for Forest (Fff) really want to do is save the world.

The question of what is and what isn’t art has plagued mankind since, well, since we first came up with ‘art’ in the first place. For as long as we have had establishments, we have had dissidents banging at the gates trying to tear down said establishments (sometimes those establishments are long-standing values and forms, sometimes they are actual, literal gates). Every artistic medium goes through different periods and motions, evolving and changing based on the next generation’s perceptions of what came before.
That’s what makes punk art of any form, be it musical, visual, film, or something different altogether, so interesting. It represents the wholesale rejection of All establishments and virtues, and the results can be exhilarating and appalling in equal measure.
Many filmmakers have turned their eye to this topic, and used the medium of film to capture that punk energy. These are films that...

Rust and Bone
Written by Jacques Audiard and Thomas Bidegain
Directed by Jacques Audiard
France/Belgium, 2012
After a strong first act with engaging moral suspense and an arresting murder sequence, Jacques Audiard’s previous film A Prophet devolved into flat, familiar territory for a prison-survival tale. Not helped by star Tahir Rahim’s blank qualities, each development in the film’s narrative suggested increasing aimlessness, shirking much of the moral compass exploration and losing an apparent sense of purpose. His latest film Rust and Bone has a similar problem, though to greater detriment; by its conclusion, it is difficult to comprehend what unifying idea actually drives its outright silly narrative.
In Antibes, France, Belgian Ali (Matthias Schoenaerts) has arrived to stay with his sister Louise (Céline Sallette), bringing his five year-old son whom he barely knows, having gotten the child away from his mother who used him to smuggle drugs.

We are now a week into the three week long Fantasia Film Festival, and while we admittedly have been a little behind due to some technical issues with our website, we still managed to get a dozen film reviews published. Keep coming back to our site as we promise twice the amount of articles by the end of week two. In the meantime, here is a round-up of what we’ve seen and written about so far.
Black Pond
Directed by Tom Kingsley and Will Sharpe
Written by Will Sharpe
U.K., 2011
Comedy, in its nature and its presentation, has morphed dramatically over the past decade or so, both in North America and in Europe, in particular the United Kingdom. From the more overt, on the nose comedy of yesteryear we have now live in an era in which the comedy is delivered with a completely different version of wit.

Possession (1981)
Written and Directed by Andrzej Zulawski
France/West Germany, 127 minutes
Zulawski’s work can be described as being a part of the cinema of hysteria. His characters exist on the edge of sanity, often in an alternative universe that resembles our own but is fuelled by different rules of conduct. Unreal is a way of describing his atmosphere, but his process suggests an emotional truth that is frighteningly on point. At the centre of many of his narratives are women and some of the most beautiful actresses in the world have graced his screen, their body and faces contorted monstrously by the demands of his excess.
In his book on Francis Bacon, The Logic of Sensation, Deleuze describes a particular brand of painting as hysterical; he described it is a “galloping schizophrenia”. The human body is at the centre of this discussion, and he speaks of the body without organs.

What is going on over at Lifetime? Now we have to picture Rob Lowe in the fetal position on the bathroom floor and Courteney Cox weeping with fatigue. Well…we don’t have to picture that, but how could we not after hearing how Lindsay Lohan‘s Liz & Dick movie is allegedly being investigated for possible workplace violations? After Lilo’s deep-sleep-that-maybe-wasn’t-a-deep-sleep-at-all-but-was-bizarre-and-terrifying-either-way, the resignation of two crew members claiming exhaustion and the hospitalization of two other crew members, both the Iatse (the union who represents film technicians and crafts people) and actors union SAG-aftra have looked into the production. According to a statement released by SAG-aftra ,“all applicable penalties will be paid” if they find a violation. If we were them, we’d check how many hours Lindsay’s wig makers have been working into the night. The human body has its limits, Lifetime!

Well, you know that I wasn’t going to allow Haywire to escape from my local monsterplex without giving it a look. There's only one more bump on the way to the bottom and that's posing naked in Playboy. Unfortunately, a lot of ladies only make it to the magazine when they're in dire straits. But it doesn't have to be that way! The human body is a beautiful thing, and it should be celebrated at the height of its charms. While there are millions of ladies out there who seem to never stop being gorgeous, the flash-in-the-pan nature of Hollywood "It" girls neccessitates a neglegance of natural beauty in favor of surgical augmentation that leaves women war-torn and scarred before they're even thirty. Here are some people we wish had posed for Playboy five years ago.

The human body is so flimsy - full of barely-functioning organs that can fail at the drop of a hat. In the future, we'll trade in our shoddy organic parts for fancy metal and plastic replacements, converting our bodies into cyborgs. We've seen some excellent examples of cyborgs in movies, TV shows, comics and video games, and in this feature we'll spotlight the best cyborgs of all time. Hopefully you can get some inspiration for your own post-human transformation here.
