Nightbreed: The Cabal Cut (Scream Factory)
This limited special edition of Clive Barker’s heavily discussed alternate cut has finally arrived. For fans of the film, this version is everything you wanted. More monsters and more narrative allow the film to progress more fitting to Barker’s intention and style.
Godzilla by Akira Ifukube (Death Waltz Records)
Beautiful. The guys from Death Waltz have again given genre fans something to be excited about. The 1954 soundtrack of Toho’s “Godzilla” is stunning, a true pleasure to hear on vinyl.
Phantom of the Opera by Rupert Julian (One Way Static Records)
The septet UK group The Laze released their accompaniment for 1925’s “Phantom of the Opera” off One Way Static Records. Styled with a range of musical influences the group makes a worthy companion score to the classic film.
The Innocents (1961) directed by Jack Clayton (Criterion Collection)

BookExpo America is a massive event, hosting nearly every publisher on the planet. To walk into it and say, "I've got it easy... I'll just be covering horror and spooky-themed titles!" is Laughable. Team Dread hit the show hard this year, determined to squeeze it for all it was worth...
It took us two days to walk every aisle of the Javits Convention Center in the heart of New York City and find those 5,000 new zombie books you'll see on the shelves later this year. Yeah, zombies are still hot.. with no signs of cooling down anytime soon. I bet you're shocked.
We came back with over 100 images (shot by the ninja-like Galaxia Siandre), and so the challenge became how to present this pile to you in a way that will satisfy hard-core bibliophiles but won't give our editors night terrors for the next three weeks. So we've posted the crème de la crème here,...

Rather than giving you yet another typical online critic’s opinion, FM has decided to bring you its verdict on the new Godzilla movie by transcribing the opinions of four more qualified individuals: Godzilla art guru Bob Eggleton, Heisei Godzilla-suit-wearer Kenpachiro Satsuma, original Ultraman Satoshi “Bin” Furuya, and tokusatsu hero of Kikaida and Inazuman Daisuke Ban. The following Q&A session took place after a special screening of Godzilla in San Jose at Big Wow! ComicFest, with kaiju expert August Ragone moderating, on May 17.
August Ragone. So why don’t you tell us what you thought of the film?
Bob Eggleton. It kicked ass. The funniest thing is that when I saw Gareth Edwards’ directorial debut called Monsters, I turned to my wife and said, this guy should direct Godzilla. If there is some justice in making another Godzilla movie, get Gareth Edwards. And I could not believe it...

Director Guillermo del Toro freely admits he’s a geek for all things sci-fi and supernatural, so he wholeheartedly jumped at the chance to smush two of his favorite Japanese sub-genres — mecha (huge robots, machines or human-piloted suits of armor) and kaiju (giant monsters) — into one super-sized summer blockbuster hopeful: Pacific Rim.
“No one has done it before and that was what first attracted me because I’m a big fan of both these very traditional genres,” Del Toro told EW on the black carpet at the film’s U.S. premiere Tuesday night at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

How's this for a film pedigree for you:
In 1973 Ultraman producers Tsuburaya Productions launched a new Japanese hero show titled Jumborg Ace. Very much based on the Ultraman model, the show would air fifty episodes that year becoming a notable hit not only in Japan but also in Thailand.
In Thailand the series caught the eye of production and distribution outfit Chaiyo Productions who bought rights to both Ultraman and Jumborg Ace - this contract would lead to decades of legal wrangling over who controlled the characters internationally, the lawsuits only being settled in Tsuburaya's favor in 2008 - and paired Jumborg with their own hero Yuk Wud Jaeng - a giant stone idol who had previously featured in their film Ta Tien - for a tokusatsu feature film team up that released theatrically in Thailand in 1974.
From there producer in Taiwan purchased the film for distribution but figured it...

The Japanese creator of TV series Ultraman has won another court victory in securing the film/merchandising rights to his otherworldy character, created in 1966 for a live-action TV show in which 'Ultraman' and his family from the 'M-78 nebula' battle space aliens intent on harming humanity. Ultraman's creator was Eiji Tsuburaya from Tsuburaya Productions, a pioneer in special effects who was responsible for bringing Godzilla to the big screen in 1954. The show has since spawned TV follow-ups, cartoon series and theatrical features, generating an ancillary marketing 'bonanza'. Click the images to enlarge and Sneak Peek Ultraman...
