Great fun and heaps of kills! from Ratcat your 3D games reviewer
ratcat012 January 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Since it had been many years since the first play-through the second time around was quite unrecognisable so there was much fun to be had. First off for the 3D review. Despite most old games working very well in 3D this game just does not which is most unfortunate because it would look fabulous but, despite its age there are some quite nice textures and the devs have made great use of shadows and colours. The puzzles in TR4 range from quite easy to very hard. Perhaps during the first play-through it wasn't actually clocked because as we all know, one can become quite 'stuck'. The story is easy to follow and the game seamlessly employs the story-line at the start to run through a tuition. there is no avoiding this because it is integral to the game. Unlike games these days this one goes on and on. Many hours of gameplay and very clever in all aspects of its design. Forgive the blocky graphics because hey, c'mon that was back in '99 when games were really just hitting their peak! TR4 leaves current games in shame when it comes to sheer length but we can always play those old faves since they are very cheap to buy. GOG.com (good old games) has them for the price of a cup of coffee! If you have never played any Tomb Raider games it is highly recommended that you start at TR1 and if you get stuck check out Stella Tomb Raider site at http://tombraiders.net/ happy Gaming. Ratcat.

Good in the fact you are once again mainly in tombs, but this one gets to difficult at times.
Aaron137511 July 2007
Yes, this one is like the first tomb raider, as you are mainly in dark underground tombs and temples. Its main drawback is the fact that this one can get really tough at times, and get really annoying fast. Whereas the first one is rather straight forward, this one will have you going here and there at times, and doubling back. Still, it is fun in that I like the whole Egyptian setting...as nearly all the action in this one takes place in pyramids and desert tombs. No military bases or stuff of that nature here. Larau must stop the awakening of a god, or it could spell the end of all humanity. The controls are basic tomb raider, as is the story. This time her foe is an old mentor, and if you have seen any type of special on tomb raider you will recognize him as the original star of this series of games, before they decided to go with pretty Laura in the lead instead. Good choice. So be prepared for multiple enemies, lots and lots of traps, and a lot of dark areas where you must use flares. You will also get to drive a jeep this time around too, and there is a train scene to enjoy as well. Granted some of the puzzles and areas this time around are really going to annoy you at times.

Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation Geforce Now Review
perkj-6674712 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Tomb Raider (1996) featuring Lara Croft was carried over from doodle to computer screen by Toby Gard, and would later exploit a slew of game sequels, comic books, merchandise, and film castings with big stars like Angelina Jolie (Girl Interrupted, 1999). By the late nineties, Eidos Interactive had just deployed Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver (Crystal Dynamics, 1999), which had nearly put Tomb Raider to shame. Thus, Jeremey Heath-Smith and his brother Adrian at Core Design had already hired a new team to reassemble their outdated Room Editor to replicate the competition. As a result, Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation (1999) was released just several months after and is most notable for its peculiar level design. This year marks Tomb Raider's 25th Year Anniversary, and NVIDIA Corporation, in collaboration with Square Enix, have recently added The Last Revelation to their GeForce NOW service.

For their fourth Tomb Raider game, Core Design retained the archaic grid system from previous Tomb Raiders to maneuver Croft. In The Last Revelation, players will continuously pull levers, leap over chasms, and move crates as before. However, Core Design challenged themselves by implementing Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver into Tomb Raider's formula. The Smith brothers insisted the series return to its roots given that Tomb Raider III: Adventure's of Lara Croft (1998) had Croft jailbreak a High Security Compound in Area 51. The Last Revelation is set exclusively in Egypt with traversal hubs implemented into Room Editor, and that means Croft must backtrack to levels shes already visited to solve the bigger puzzle. This poses new threats, as the A. I. is tweaked so that skeletons à la Army of Darkness (1992) and ninjas straight out of Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) can mimic most of Croft's moves. Admiringly, Core Design introduced a rope swinging mechanic, that you might remember from Pitfall (1981) on the Atari 2600. This would definitely become another staple once Toby Gard regained the series for Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Legend (Crystal Dynamics, 2006). Whereas in Tomb Raider III, Croft swam with crocodiles in the sewers of London and raided a Masonic Temple in Aldwych, she finds herself more at home in The Last Revelation with even more crocodiles, but this time at The Temple of Karnak near the Nile River. Later in the game, Croft visits Cairo during toxin-like overcast in perhaps the most menacing set of Tomb Raider levels by Andy Sandham. Thankfully, Croft sports a R75 to speed through an Armageddon, but sadly without Sean Connery in its sidecar.

The original Tomb Raider featured scores by Nathan McCree, whose compositions typically consisted of choirs that would cue when Croft approached an awe-inspiring landmark or solved a complex puzzle. For The Last Revelation, Peter Connelly makes his mark on the series with grandiose Egyptian melodies and still alluding to McCree's playbook. Also, The Last Revelation was proposed as the series finale, which is probably why Connelly's main title theme is so beautifully melancholic. Much of his score is heavily influenced by The Mummy (1999), which came out the same year as The Last Revelation. Overall, Connelly mimics a variety of exhilarating Egyptian instruments over McCree's heavy use of choirs, and this is a nice change of pace for Core Design's fourth Tomb Raider entry.

At this point, the series had already peaked, and Tomb Raider III featured a much higher difficulty that only the series veterans could appreciate. The Last Revelation elevates the former by channelling Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver to provide distinct level design and stunning visuals. Core Design had pushed their antiquated Room Editor to its limits in what was supposed to be their last game headlining Tomb Raider. With NVIDIA Corporation and Square Enix having just re-released The Last Revelation for the GeForce NOW service, there is no reason not to revisit this classic.

The Best Game
achyuth-sastry7 August 2008
Hay guys, i don't understand why people say that TR4 is OK. i played this game for 4times each time found some thing new and i am very impressed with music and weapons and also vechiles. I personally feel that most the gamers doesn't like this game because they doesn't like to play puzzle games...

If you like adventure games, if want to see ur self with mummies then this game will rock you. you will be on tombs, road, water, train and allover world .... Movies are pretty good. you will have choice in selecting routes.especially i like valley of kings level where you will have motorbike and it looks amazing.

Marvelous Game!
Aece of Hearts1 July 2001
I've heard alot of people say bad things about this game. Personally, I find it to be the best Tomb Raider game I have played. For me, it's all about gameplay AND plot... without one, the other is useless. There were quite a few challenging puzzles in this one, lots of nasty traps and enemies, too. I'll admit that I caught on fire more times than I'd like to remember, but it's all for the love of the game. I also think that this game also had the best Lara voice. I don't know if it was just the audio quality, or if they used a different voice actress, but I thought the voice acting was quite superb. My only complaint is that there weren't more "movies"... instead they gave us animations that looked like the game. If my gameplay is going to be interrupted for an animation, at least make it QUALITY animation. All in all, I found the game quite challenging and fun, and as I stated before, the plot was great. Possibly even better than the movie released this summer, which I loved.

A great tomb raider and an improvement over 3
vivifan20 September 2021
I loved Tomb raiders 1 and 2 so much, the gameplay, soundtracks, visuals at the time, storys, level design, challenge, variety, setting s, the mansions, the boss fights, everything!. Tomb raider 3 tho while decent felt like a step backwards for the series due to it having less tombs to raid, a story that was forgetable, level design that was flawed, pacing that was too long at points, and it being kinda boring in areas. Tho saying that the mansion was enjoyable and the presentation was solid. Tomb raider 4 tho is an improvement over 3 but as good as the first two. Tomb raider 4 has a much better story then 3s and is very good, there is more Tomb raiding then 3, the pacing and level design is better, and graphics were very good for the time, the music is good, atmosphere, levels, weapons, etc. The setting is all in ebypt but I didn't mind this since there is level variety here and for it to take place in ebypt is good since that's a great place to have a game called tomb raider in. While is the game is more enjoyable then 3 and is great there are a few problems. The second half is bit confusing and no laras mansion is a bit of a disappointment to. There are some sections to that could have been better. But overall the game is great and I would recommend it.

Good, but nothing we haven't seen before
Sciurus5 June 2000
I have always been a fan of this type of game. I really enjoyed the first three in the series and this one itself is fun for awhile. While I was playing, though, it struck me that it's just the same game over and over. Sure the local may be different and the graphics may be tweeked, but it's just the same thing. The game itself is fine, but nothing we've not seen before.
