The “Blade Runner 2049” original score has been at the center of a mystery ever since Denis Villeneuve’s regular collaborator, Jóhann Jóhannsson, left the project over the summer and Hans Zimmer and Benjamin Wallfisch came on board to replace him. Anyone who feared Zimmer’s involvement with the sequel would mean his usual bombast (see “Dunkirk” for the latest example) can rest easy, however, as the entire original score is now streaming online.
In an ironic twist, Zimmer’s work finds the composer channeling his inner Jóhannsson, as the score is full of ambient tones and airy soundscapes (albeit with a Zimmer-inflected electronic spin). The complete soundtrack clocks in at over an hour and includes songs from Frank Sinatra (“Summer Wind,” “One For My Baby”) and Elvis Presley (“Suspicious Minds,” “Can’t Help Falling in Love”), which should only add another level of intrigue on to the spoiler-protected film.

If Jon Stewart's departure from The Daily Show didn't seem real before, it sure does now.
Stewart announced Monday night that Aug. 6 will be his final broadcast of The Daily Show before new host Trevor Noah takes over, Variety reports.
Stewart didn't provide too many details about the final show's agenda (maybe Feist can do a heartrending version of "One for My Baby, and One More for the Road"), but he did mention that there would be a contest allowing Daily Show fans to attend his final taping of the show.
Noah faces a rough time coming into his hosting slot.

Jay Leno had his second "Tonight Show" goodbye Thursday (Feb. 6), though presumably this one will stick.
For his monologue, Leno told a series of amusing jokes about how much the world has changed since he took over "The Tonight Show" from Johnny Carson:
"When I started, marijuana was illegal and you could smoke cigarettes any place you wanted.""Twenty-two years ago, there was no Craigslist. Serial killers had to meet their victims the old-fashioned way -- at the bus station at midnight." "Twenty-two years ago, guys actually had to go to the newsstand for porn. Can you imagine?!"
Billy Crystal was (again) the emcee to send Leno off. Crystal was Leno's first "Tonight Show" guest and also appeared for the 2009 send-off -- check out videos of those appearances below. In 2009, Crystal sang a song set to the tune of "My Favorite Things."
This time around, Crystal recalls Leno's 20-plus...

Hugh Laurie's days as Dr. House are behind him, but the British actor is keeping himself busy by singing the blues. During an appearance on Larry King's Hulu program, "Larry King Now," Laurie debuted a music video for his cover of "One for My Baby (and One More for the Road)," a song first sung by Fred Astaire in 1943 film "The Sky's the Limit," and popularized by Frank Sinatra. Katy Perry recently told Vogue that she and John Mayer were over. But recent events show that the romance might not be totally finished yet: Perry and Mayer were seen together in New York City on Monday (June 24) and reportedly kissed.
The on-again, off-again couple was first spotted together on Saturday (June 22) night, according to a report from People, but it was unclear how intimate the meeting may have been. Perry was in the audience when Mayer performed Frank Sinatra's "One for My Baby (And One More for the Road)," and was reportedly "enamored" of the song.
Afterward, Mayer sat with Perry and the two exchanged kisses. They were "seen smooching and rubbing one another's backs. They were affectionate towards one another -- very lovey-dovey,...

On May 22, 1992, Johnny Carson ended his 30-year reign as the host of "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson." Twenty years after his final broadcast, Carson remains unmatched as an American television icon.
Carson's abilities as a television host set the prototype for all late-night hosts who would come after him. Effortlessly likable, quick on his feet and always present, his monologue and guest interviews were a staple of the American cultural diet. In the new PBS documentary "Johnny Carson: King of Late Night," his one-time permanent guest host Joan Rivers called Carson "the ultimate straight man," praising his ability to let his guests have the spotlight during interviews.
One of his successors, Conan O'Brien, said in the documentary that his forebear's greatest slight of hand was to simultaneously appear innocent as well as "the coolest guy in the room."

I do want to thank Don and Rich at Atlantis Events for having me and Andrew Oldershaw of Fifteen Minutes for facilitating everything. That will all come later in the week, so let's get to our Meme. I hope you're ready for Meme Classic after all the tasty new writers you had last week!

Lady Gaga has millions of Little Monsters, but count Tony Bennett as one of her biggest fans, evident in tonight's (Fri. Jan. 27) PBS special, "Great Performances: Tony Bennett Duets II."
The special shows studio sessions of the making of "Tony Bennett Duets II" as he records "The Lady is a Tramp" with Lady Gaga. As she calls herself a tramp and ad-libs about Bennett and his wife, Bennett cracks up, which is left in the song.
"You try to be as honest as you can be when you make a record, when you are performing and the people trust that," Bennett tells Zap2it. "When I was giggling with Lady Gaga, I could not believe the amount of talent she has. She is so over-the-top with what she was doing and it is completely improvised."
Bennett reveals that Gaga had looked past the recording booth and saw a woman smiling at Bennett.

We look back at Jane Russell's movie career, from The Outlaw through Gentlemen Prefer Blondes to her late-60s cameos
As a 20-year-old and the object of Howard Hughes's attentions, Jane Russell was force-fed into a series of low-cut dresses for The Outlaw (1943).
She plays Doc Holliday's girl Rio, who falls in love with a wounded Billy the Kid when he hides out with her, on the run from Pat Garrett. Not remotely historically accurate, this blood-heat western is best remembered for the censorship squabbles over exactly how far Russell was allowed to lean over while tenderly ministering to the Kid. Hughes's legendary underwired cantilevered brassiere was designed during the shooting of the film, but Russell denied she ever wore it.
The Paleface (1948) was a real change of pace: a comedy western with Bob Hope as the useless dentist Peter Potter, who plays husband to Russell's deep-cover Calamity Jane.

White Collar is returning on January 18th to continue its second season, and you probably know that things have heated up. Stars Tim DeKay and Matt Bomer were available recently to talk about the show, and it was a great interview. It was interesting to get another chance to get some thoughts from them now that the show has a solid run under its belt, but they don't sound much different from when I talked to them before the show premiered.
These guys are wonderfully down-to-earth, and having them together is a great bonus. They don't give too much away about what we'll be seeing, but they give us a bit of a lead into the series' return. We do know that there's going to be a background episode coming up very soon, and that ought to give fans something to chew on for a while.

With only four weeks and eight episodes remaining in its not-so-fresh ninth season, American Idol is going to try something a little different next Tuesday: Harry Connick Jr. will be the first guest mentor in the show's history to arrange the songs and write the orchestrations for the remaining contestants as they tackle the Frank Sinatra songbook. And since the top 5 hopefuls are having control wrested from their hands anyway, I say let's do the honor of choosing their songs as well. The full list of 50 pre-approved Sinatra tracks is listed after the jump, and below is my dream set-list.

The "American Idol" contestants are being saddled with the songs of Ol' Blue Eyes for this coming week. What should they sing?
This is probably the hardest week for song choice so far. Shania Twain may be limited but at least her songs were written in the last 15 years.
Don't get us wrong -- love Sinatra. But his songs are from the 40s and 50s and are classics, so the Idols are stuck in a catch-22 of "make it your own, make it current" and "don't mess with an original." It's a very hard line to walk and the judges are really harping on it this season. But here are our choices for the Idols:
Crystal Bowersox, "One for My Baby"
Raise your hand if you vote for "Idol" and remember Bette Midler singing this to Johnny Carson. That's what we thought. Regardless, Crystal should glam it up even more...

Harry Connick, Jr will act as the celebrity mentor for American Idol hopefuls this week, as they attempt to out their own spin on some Frank Sinatra songs.
The New Orleans singer is well versed in the art of covering a Sinatra tune, having covered many in his albums and concerts to date.
This could be an awful wee for the five remaining contestants as these swing numbers are so well known and often iconic tunes and often singers give a boring but true rendition or they mix it up so much that they destroy the classic song.
We think that Big Mike can totally pull off one of Ol’ Blue Eyes’ songs but Casey James may not be so lucky and will it lead to frontrunner Crystal Bowersox having another bad week?
What Sinatra songs would you like to hear the Crystal Bowersox, Mike Lynche, Casey James, Aaron Kelly and Lee DeWyze sing?...

I see in this week's Entertainment Weekly that they rank the top 50 Beatles songs. Wow. I didn't know you could do that. So here for the first time (as chosen by me) is the Definitive list of the top 10 all-time best Frank Sinatra songs. This was not easy to accomplish because between 1940-1964 Sinatra recorded every song ever written. But still I have narrowed them down and have selected the very best of the best. ************* 1.
