Another screwball Spanish comedy
Havan_IronOak23 March 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Unknown author Jorge can't reconcile his feelings for his bisexual flatmate with his own musings about possibly being attracted to men.

This Amaldovar wanna-be pulls out all of the stops; liberally giving us gay bars, drag queens, zany drunks, and enough confused heterosexuals to fill the requisite 90-some minutes of this Spanish screwball romantic-comedy.

I went into this film with no preconceptions about it and enjoyed it for the most part but I started wondering about half way through why these characters didn't grab my attention the way that Amaldovar's characters did. I'm not sure that I figured it out but as the movie continued it seemed to be the perfunctory nature of it all. When an AIDS subplot made an appearance in the plot line I pretty much lost interest in this film. It felt a bit too formulaic. It reminded me of other autobiographic pics about an author or film maker and their zany circle of friends but in this case, none of the characters made me care enough about them to make the film entirely successful.

Overall the cast does a good job and the film making is free of those annoying spots that so many over-earnest amateur films have but still, this is not a film that I envision ever wanting to view a second time.
