Hard as it is to believe with everything going on right now, but Christmas is only about five weeks away, and the streaming market is already looking crowded. Although Netflix can probably expect to continue their dominance over subscribers through the end of 2020, Amazon Prime are releasing some notable titles for the last month of the year, including original films like I’m Your Woman and new episodes of The Expanse.

Decades ago, Lassie Come Home was a pretty big feature film, but this news about an on-screen dog is even bigger -- at least in physical size. Scholastic is rebooting the beloved, animated Clifford the Big Red Dog TV show for PBS Kids and Amazon Prime, with a start date Tbd in 2019. The updated series is based on the character created by the late author and illustrator Norman Bridwell, who published his first Clifford the Big Red Dog book in 1963. A prequel, Clifford’s Puppy Days ran from 2003 to 2006 and featured the vocal talents of Lara Jill Miller and Henry Winkler. Read More…...

Though Universal first adopted Clifford the Big Red Dog, tentatively placing a big-screen movie on course for release in 2016, Deadline brings word that the giant canine has now found a home at Paramount.
Enlisting screenwriter Justin Malen (Baywatch), it’s understood the rejuvenated feature film will incorporate both CGI and live-action sequences in a manner not dissimilar to Jon Favreau’s The Jungle Book.
A product of celebrated author and cartoonist Norman Bridwell, Clifford the Big Red Dog first roared to life all the way back in the early ’60s, going on to become a fixture of childhoods nationwide through Bridwell’s own novels and the eventual TV adaptations. Now, a bona fide feature film is in the works.
Orbiting around Emily Elizabeth, a pint-sized young girl who grows up in a rural community, Clifford kicks into gear when, inexplicably, Emily’s loveable birthday present grows to be 25 feet tall.

The seemingly unstoppable Melissa McCarthy, the Bridesmaids breakout who stars on Mike & Molly and went on to topline smash hit The Heat with Sandra Bullock, was dealt a blow when her standalone vehicle Tammy bowed to largely negative reviews, but that Warner Bros. title did make $100 million against a budget of $20 million, so you can’t really blame Universal for wanting a piece of the actress. Their McCarthy-led title, called Michelle Darnell, has just been slotted for an April 8th, 2016 release date.
McCarthy’s Tammy director/co-writer and off-screen husband Ben Falcone will again take the reins on the project, which finds McCarthy playing “a titan of industry who is sent to prison after she’s caught for insider trading. When she leaves prison hoping to rebrand herself, she finds that not everyone is ready to forgive and forget.”

Norman Bridwell, creator of the beloved children’s book character Clifford the Big Red Dog, has died. He was 86. Scholastic Trade Book Publishing said the author and illustrator died Friday on Martha’s Vineyard.
“Norman Bridwell’s books about Clifford, childhood’s most loveable dog, could only have been written by a gentle man with a great sense of humor,” Scholastic chief Dick Robinson said. “Norman personified the values that we as parents and educators hope to communicate to our children – kindness, compassion, helpfulness, gratitude – through the Clifford stories which have been loved for more than 50 years.”
Bridwell created Clifford in 1963 and went on to publish more than 150 Clifford titles, which have sold a combined 129 million copies and been translated into 13 languages. Another beloved childhood character is heading to the big screen. Universal recently announced that an adaptation of Clifford the Big Red Dog, based on the children’s book series by Norman Bridwell, will be hitting theaters on April 8th, 2016.
Plot details for the film are scarce, but Bridwell’s series centered on a dog named Clifford, born the runt of the litter. When he was given to Emily Elizabeth as a birthday present, the little girl’s love for him caused Clifford to swell in size to a height of over 25 feet. Given the dog’s size, his owner’s family had no choice but to move to the wide open spaces of Bridwell Island, where Clifford encountered new friends like Cleo, Mac and T-Bone. Over 70 installments of the book series, which also spawned a popular PBS Kids TV show, have been released.

Following in the footsteps of the recently rebooted "Reading Rainbow," "The Magic School Bus" is the latest beloved children's TV show to get a makeover.
Netflix has acquired the rights to "The Magic School Bus 360°, a computer-animated show in the vein of the '90s original, which followed quirky teacher Ms. Frizzle, who took her students on fantastical journeys -- including through the human body and into space -- using the titular vehicle. The new "School Bus" is set to feature a modernized version of Ms. Frizzle, as well as updated technology, "such as robots or a smart suit worn by the character Carlos that determines his body's vital signs instantly," according to the New York Times.
The 26-episode series is Netflix's first foray into original programming of its recently acquired Scholastic Media properties, which also include "Clifford the Big Red Dog" and "Goosebumps." Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos...

Not only a show that made an amazing impact on the world of children’s programming, but one that continues to hold up, The Magic School Bus is a show still enjoyed by millions of kids (including my own) around the world.
In the grand tradition of that show (no pressure), Scholastic Media, in a joint announcement with Netflix, has announced The Magic School Bus 360°, created and produced by Scholastic Media, launching exclusively on Netflix as a Netflix Original Series, with Scholastic Media President, Deborah Forte, as Executive Producer.
Unfortunately, you have to wait until 2016, but the news hits a lot of positive notes, from a variety of angles. A return of The Magic School Bus franchise means not only a chance for kids to engage with science in the home, but also opens the door for countless other opportunities in the form of books and other materials to be used in classrooms.

Netflix and Scholastic Media are teaming to launch a new CG animated original series based on the 1990s’ PBS kids TV series The Magic School Bus. Children of the 90s, rejoice: the "Magic School Bus" is returning for more passengers. The New York Times reports that Netflix has ordered a new series based on the Scholastic Media property, part of the streaming service's continued push into original content geared towards children. The new show will be called "The Magic School Bus 360°" and is set to be produced using CG animation, not traditional hand-drawn techniques like its 1990s predecessor. Twenty-six half hour episodes will go live on the site sometime in 2016. Last year, Netflix acquired the rights to a host of Scholastic properties, including "Clifford the Big Red Dog" and "Goosebumps." "The Magic School Bus" is a sensible early step into the market for Netflix (before it branches out, no doubt, with more children's book-based programming): the longest-running children's science program, it was shown in some 39 countries. We expect that the "360°" version of the bus will undergo some.

As has been hinted at earlier in the season, Wilfred is finally putting Ryan in a position where he has to deal with his (presumably) unrequited feelings for Jenna. The Ryan/Jenna dynamic has been an aspect of the show that I’ve felt has been handled well in the last season and a half. Last summer, Ryan found there are other women in the world to date besides the girl next door, and Jenna came out and admitted she’s been using Ryan’s puppy-like affection for her as a leash to keep him close and willing to do whatever she asked of him. Now that Ryan is single again and Jenna is married to Drew, it seems now is as good a time as any to force Ryan to face his feelings and either nut up and confess them to Jenna or remove himself as such a constant presence in her life.
