- Jack falls heir to the Hurley estate, and is guardian for $20,000, held in trust for his sister Eva. That same evening Jack is seen at his club gambling at cards. He loses quite a sum, which he pays the following evening from the funds of the Hurley estate. Not being able to throw off the temptation of gambling he finally is persuaded to place a large sum of money on a "sure thing" in stocks that proves to be a fraud, and he loses all. His furniture is turned over to his creditors. While looking for a moderate apartment with his sister, a young woman passes and drops her pocketbook that is picked up by his sister. Jack returns the pocket book to Eloise Gilmore, a school teacher, in her classroom. This is a love match, and Jack meets Eloise's aunt, a dear old lady. Wallingford James, a tricky broker, now gets Jack to induce Eloise's aunt to invest in some fake mining stock. Later the newspapers are full of the gigantic swindling and Eloise and her aunt are heartbroken until Jack calls, returns the check that he did not turn over to James, and explains that the brokers are lodged in jail. Jack now claims Eloise as his wife, and her delighted aunt readily gives consent.—Moving Picture World synopsis
