The Charming Professor Errol.
planktonrules23 February 2021
For some reason, Leon is a professor in this one...and apparently he's known for being very charming. But you don't see any of that in this one...just the drunk Leon getting into all sorts of problems with little provocation.

The story begins with two folks about the get married. The wife-to-be is a deranged sort....more about this later. In the meantime, Leon is drunk and gets a hotel room...and stumbles into this hysterical woman's room. She sees him and then accuses Leon of practically every crime you can think of....and even accuses him of trying to poison her. What's next? See the film.

This film is modestly funny, though sometimes the utter ridiculousness of the plot goes on a bit too long. Enjoyable...but not exactly brilliant.

The Morning After the Night Before

Professor Leon Errol, noted author, returns to his hotel. Still feeling the effects of a night out, he wanders into the wrong room and imagines he has committed bigamy with Veronica Lake, who is on her honeymoon with Eddie Dunn. Of course he tries to hire Eddie to get him out of trouble when his wife shows up....

Leon Errol's series of shorts for RKO were all about him, doing variations of his double talk routines and the eccentric dancing that had made him a stage star and he is in good form here. It's also interesting to see Veronica Lake in her first credited screen role, even if she is going as "Connie Keane" here. She gets to show a bit more overt emotion than she did in her starring roles.
