Cahoots Is Unique
Loomis_Orange4 January 2005
Warning: Spoilers
This picture concerns the life of two men who have taken very different paths in life. Boys who'd grown up together. Befriended each other in childhood. (Harvey has a big heart). They had their first sexual experience under the same car roof. One's married and trying to live a normal life, the other can't succeed in having a normal life. Matt comes to town after ten years away "at recess" in Alaska. His child, a beautiful little girl falls in love with her Daddy (again). His oldest dearest friend (Yeah, we broke a lot of hymens together) Harvey has trouble remembering Matt's name at times. Matt has a strange effect on Harvey's life. Harvey begins regressing. Regressing into something he hates to think he is. Leaving his emotionally hungry wife alone, he travels with Matt. He can't say "No" to Matt. They're what Matt calls "Asshole Buddies" Matt draws trouble. Matt is trouble. Matt is a drinker, a womanizer and a roustabout trying desperately to make up for the fact that he's a flaming homosexual. Harvey finally realizes what his old friend is up to when during a murder of a sexual pervert who's "had" Matt at gunpoint. Matt then confesses to Harvey that he "sucked and swallowed .. liked it too." Matt then crawls onto the hood of his truck which he's deliberately planted on a railroad track. He howls with all his might as he watches the train approach, gets plastered to smithereens while his only friend in the world witnesses the whole thing. The most effective part of this film is the end when Benedict takes us back to their childhood and explains a bit. This film is worth watching simply for the closing.

Plus Keith has written the song.

Headed to the bargain bin at a video shop near you SOON

I just saw this movie at the Plzen Film Festival. I have to say that I cannot figure out why it was made. The characters are one-dimensional, the story is simplistic (not *always* a bad thing) and I cannot get to like or even understand the characters behaviour. The character Matt is a weak stereotype of what a bully is when he grows up. And the other male lead would not just be so divided between his "real" life (a married architect) and his "old" life (school friends, drinking etcetera). Not very well planned. Same story might have worked, if told differently.

Cahoots! Prepare to laugh your ass off

Keith Carradine gives a once in a lifetime performance under the great direction and handle of Dirk Benedict. Don't let this movie go on unwatched!

A black comedy about two men (Keith Carradine and David Keith) who grew up together still best friends, and they meet again after years of not seeing. Their lives have gone in opposite directions. One is married, is a winner respectful and well located, the other is divorced, unemployed and wanders around the planet. A simple gathering to drink and chat about their lives will lead to a spiral of violence until a hellish situation.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. A must for any guy to watch.

Great Movie, Interesting Story Line

This movie may not be #1 at the box office but it sure was a terrific movie. I think your average movie goer will enjoy the movie and the story line behind it. The only people that will pick it apart are the supposed 'movie critics' out there. (And I say movie critic with a lot of distaste behind it.) The acting was great, the directing even better and the story line was interesting. I hope that this movie gets the exposure it deserves and the chance for everyone who is a fan of Dirk Benedict to see it and make their own decision.
