Since her work on “The Dropout” has already brought her an Emmy, a Golden Globe, and a Critics Choice Award, Amanda Seyfried only needs a Screen Actors Guild Award in order to complete her major industry TV prize sweep. Based on the fact that no woman who has been nominated for all four awards and won the Emmy first has failed to win the other three, her path to victory is arguably clearer than that of any other 2023 SAG Award contender. If she is successful on this final bid, she will be the 12th woman to win both a lead Emmy and a SAG Award for the same TV movie or miniseries performance.

The Emmy landscape has changed drastically in the past two decades. Going in to the 54th Emmy Awards, which took place on Sept. 22, 2002, it was a broadcast network — NBC — that led the nominations with 47. Emmy powerhouse HBO came in second with 38. FX and VH1 earned their first nominations while the first major streaming series, Netflix’s “House of Cards,” was still 11 years away. Several of this year’s contenders for Emmy gold were either nominated or won 20 years ago.
Laura Linney, who has been nominated nine times and won four statuettes, is nominated this year for her lead role in the final season of Netflix’s “Ozark” and as co-executive producer of this drama series contender. Two decades ago, she won her first Emmy for her lead role in the Showtime telefilm “Wild Iris.”

This year’s 10 fellows, who will each receive a $10,800 stipend, are playwright Harron Atkins, showrunner’s assistant Yasmine Cadet, writer’s production assistant Joseph Capuana, writer and storyboard artist Michael Lee, writer Catherine Loerke, comedy promo writer Vincent Lopez, comedian Jordan Mendoza, playwright and librettist Jerome Parker, children’s television writer Michael Rodrigue, and entertainment journalist Pilot Viruet. Patricia Arquette and Patricia Clarkson could face off in the limited series/ TV movie supporting actress category at the Emmys for both playing mothers suffering from Munchausen syndrome by proxy. Clarkson is currently in first place in our combined odds for her performance in HBO’s “Sharp Objects,” while Arquette sits in second place for her turn in Hulu’s true-crime anthology series “The Act.” But which Patty really has the edge in this incredibly tight race?
Patricia Arquette
Pros
– A previous Emmy winner for “Medium”, Arquette disappears into yet another role, this time with frazzled hair and a Southern accent. Playing the real-life Dee Dee Blanchard allows her to display a wide range of emotion, especially as we see Dee Dee throughout multiple phases of her life. Add the heft of portraying a real-life person and the loud, showy nature of the character, and you have nearly every box...

Patricia Arquette has two juicy projects in Emmy contention — Showtime’s “Escape at Dannemora” and Hulu’s upcoming “The Act” — but 60 percent of our readers feel she’ll only walk away with a statuette for the former.
That’s hardly shocking since we already have data on “Dannemora.” Arquette, who’s leading our Best Limited Series/TV Movie Actress odds, has scooped up the Golden Globe, Critics’ Choice (in a tie with “Sharp Objects”‘ Amy Adams) and Screen Actors Guild Awards for her transformative turn and just needs the Emmy to complete the sweep. And while the show didn’t win an Best Limited Series prizes in January, it did bag a Directors Guild Award for Ben Stiller and is the Emmy favorite.

After winning the Golden Globe, Critics’ Choice and Screen Actors Guild Awards for “Escape at Dannemora,” Patricia Arquette is the favorite in our early odds to win the Best Limited Series/TV Movie Actress Emmy. But could she find herself walking away with two statuettes? The Oscar winner is sitting in second place behind Patricia Clarkson (“Sharp Objects”) in the supporting actress race for her upcoming Hulu anthology series “The Act.”
Based on the 2016 Buzzfeed article “Dee Dee Wanted Her Daughter to Be Sick, Gypsy Wanted Her Mom Murdered” about the real-life case, the true crime series follows Gypsy Rose Blanchard (Joey King), who tries to escape the toxic and abusive relationship with her mother Dee Dee (Arquette), who has Munchausen syndrome by proxy. (HBO released a 2017 documentary about this case called “Mommy Dead and Dearest.”)

Exclusive: Goldie Hawn has signed with ICM Partners, the move coming after she starred opposite Amy Schumer in 20th Century Fox’s comedy Snatched.
Hawn won a best supporting actress Oscar and Golden Globe for 1969’s Cactus Flower, and was nominated for the Best Actress Oscar and Golden Globe for 1981’s Private Benjamin, in her most memorable role. Before Snatched, a road trip comedy in which she played Schumer’s mother, Hawn’s previous film was 2002’s The Banger Sisters.
She was a producer on 2002’s Emmy-winning The Matthew Shepard Story, and also oversees the Hawn Foundation, which she founded in 2003 to focus on children and education.
Hawn remains managed by Jason Weinberg.

According to hundreds of Gold Derby users currently predicting the Creative Arts Emmys, Cameron Britton (“Mindhunter”) is the front-runner to win Best Drama Guest Actor for his role as real-life serial killer Ed Kemper. But on paper that might seem unlikely. “Mindhunter” got no other nominations, so can he really take down actors from Best Drama Series contenders like “This is Us” (Gerald McRaney and Ron Cephas Jones), “The Crown” (Matthew Goode) and “Westworld” (Jimmi Simpson)? To win under those circumstances is somewhat rare, but not unprecedented.
The Emmys introduced guest-acting categories in 1986, and since then eight people have won on their shows’ only nomination. It happened three times in Best Comedy Guest Actor: Cleavon Little, Tim Conway and Peter Scolari.
It happened three times in Best Drama Guest Actress: Viveca Landfors, Amanda Plummer and Cloris Leachman.

Jeff Daniels could be on the verge of joining an exclusive Emmy club. The actor already has a Best Drama Actor award for his work on “The Newsroom” but this year he could actually add two more to his total. Daniels is currently earning Emmy buzz for his performances in two recent limited series. He’s a Best Movie/Mini Actor candidate for Hulu’s “The Looming Tower” and a Best Movie/Mini Supporting Actor contender for Netflix’s “Godless.”
“The Looming Tower” tells the story of the rivalry between the FBI and CIA in the late 1990s and how that may have led to 9/11. “Godless” is a western miniseries for Netflix which casts Daniels as one of its bad guys. See 2018 Emmy odds and rankings.

She then changed over to Best Drama Actress and won in that category in 2002 and 2004. Her co-star Stockard Channing was the last woman to pick up two acting Emmys in the same cycle.
