Impact Network is rebranding from a faith and gospel-focused multiplatform channel to a family-friendly lifestyle entertainment channel focused on Black audiences.
Founded in 2010 by Bishop Wayne T. Jackson and wife Beverly Jackson, the 100% Black-owned independent network began as a channel airing sermons and religious talk shows. In 2022, with the appointment of Wayne and Beverly’s son Royal Jackson to chief creative officer, Impact Network moved into entertainment programming, including both scripted and unscripted titles with a strategic focus on religious content.
Now, Impact is shifting its lineup once more to encompass “family-friendly lifestyle entertainment, premium scripted and engaging non-scripted series in addition to programming initiatives around health/wellness/financial/cultural areas affecting Black communities.”
Among Impact’s new offerings are unscripted syndicated series licensed from Fox First Run, including “You Bet Your Life” with Jay Leno and Kevin Eubanks, “25 Words or Less” with Meredith Louise Vieira and “Divorce Court,...

The verdict is in: Syndicated court staples “Judge Mathis” and “The People’s Court” will both end their run at the end of this season, Variety has confirmed. “Judge Mathis” will wrap after 24 seasons, while this most recent iteration of “The People’s Court” wraps after its 26th season. Season 24 and Season 26, respectively.
Both shows come from Warner Bros. Unscripted Television in association with Telepictures Productions and are distributed by Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution. According to insiders, the decision was made due to the declining nature of the daytime syndication landscape. As local TV stations shrink their syndication dollars and the advertising marketplace shrinks for daytime syndication, first-run syndication has become a trickier landscape. At the same time, station groups have been expanding their local news broadcasts, also in a bid to save money.
“Judge Mathis” also comes from And Syndicated Productions, while “The People’s Court” is a Ralph Edwards/Stu Billett Production.

Judge Mathis and The People’s Court revival are ending their long TV runs, both victims of challenging market conditions within the daytime syndication landscape.
Judge Mathis has been on the air for 24 seasons, winning a 2018 Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Legal/Courtroom Program. It was the first court show featuring an African American jurist to win.
Judge Greg Mathis is the longest-running Black male host on television and the second-longest-reigning arbitrator in courtroom television history, behind Judith Sheindlin.
The news follows the recent announcement that another daytime staple, Dr. Phil, will be ending its run after 21 seasons. It’s been a transformational year in the increasingly challenging daytime syndication landscape, with stalwarts The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Wendy Williams Show, Maury, Dr. Oz as well as The Real also ending within the past 12 months.

Fox announced that lawyer, journalist and former “The View” co-host Star Jones has been appointed judge of the first-run syndicated series “Divorce Court,” starting in September.
As television’s longest running court show, “Divorce Court” dates back to the late 1950’s, when actors used to reenact actual divorce proceedings. Today, the program features real people and real cases — ranging from divorce court proceedings to other domestic disputes.
Judge Faith Jenkins will continue through the end of Season 23 and Jones will join for Season 24. Jones, a former assistant district attorney in New York and former legal correspondent on NBC’s “Today Show,” “Nightly News” and more, said that she will “offer the parties before ‘Divorce Court,’ as well as viewers, a no-nonsense approach to the law and a decision driven by my proven legal expertise, compassion and empathy, personal experiences and hard-earned common sense.”

“The Walking Dead” franchise is getting another free outlet: AMC Networks inked a deal with Amazon’s IMDb TV to add six channels to its “live” lineup on the free, ad-supported streaming service.
Two AMC channels already have launched on IMDb TV: The Walking Dead Universe Experience — which includes select past episodes of the original zombie show and its spinoffs — and AMC: Presents. In the next few months, IMDb TV will add four additional channels from the basic cabler to the “watch live” linear selection: Absolute Reality by We tv, Rush by AMC, IFC Films Picks, and Slightly Off by IFC.
The Walking Dead Universe Experience channel is exclusive to IMDb TV (with some content not available anywhere else), but the others are not. Earlier this year, the programmer signed a similar deal for “The Walking Dead” and other shows with ViacomCBS’s Pluto TV free-streaming linear service.

For decades, reality court shows have been a big hit in the United States. From Judge Judy to Judge Joe Brown, there’s no shortage of people in bizarre situations looking for some legal intervention. Among the most popular court room shows to hit the airwaves is Divorce Court. The show actually premiered in 1957 but originally had a different format. The show as most people know it, has been running in its current format since 1999. Over the years, we’ve seen several judges come and go, but none have been more memorable than Judge Lynn Toler. Fox Television Stations has cut a broad renewal pact with Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution that calls for four returning series to be reformatted to allow them to run seamlessly without commercial breaks between shows.
The renewal pact covers “Extra,” “TMZ, “TMZ Live” and “The Real.” Fox Television Stations will eliminate the traditional commercial break stuck between the end of one show and the beginning of the next. That will require some reformatting from Warner Bros. to incorporate series credits and production credit slates in a compressed-screen format that airs as part of the final seconds of the program rather than running in a traditional end credits.
The commercial minutes lost from the elimination of the break will be worked in elsewhere, either by adding more spots to the existing pods or by the addition of a new break within the program.

Long before Tyler Perry entered Hollywood, he built an audience through plays that he wrote, produced and often starred in. His strategy was spurred by his pursuit of ownership, and he says his prayers led him to create and showcase stories about religion, family and their triumphs over worldly evils.
Since then, he has built a production empire in Atlanta. As he prepares to open another studio, his 12 soundstages are home to shows including Nick Cannon’s “Wild ’N Out,” “Divorce Court” and Bet’s “Sunday Best,” along with his own original content such as “The Haves and the Have Nots” and “If Loving You Is Wrong” on Own.
His first mention in Variety was on Sept. 5, 2003, for the play “Madea’s Class Reunion.”
In 2003, Variety’s reviewer said, “Tyler Perry is a raw, major talent just beginning to hit his stride.” Do you feel like you’re still hitting that stride?...

Exclusive: Daytime Emmy-winning producer Taj Paxton is teaming with Don Handfield to develop a family drama series inspired by the true-life story of Paxton’s mother, Judge Mablean Ephriam, the first presiding judge of the syndicated TV series Divorce Court.

Is Mama June Shannon encouraging Mike "Sugar Bear" Thompson to cheat on her?
Divorce Court's Judge Lynn Toler seems to think so.
In an exclusive sneak peek at Friday's Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars, Toler says to the Here Comes Honey Boo Boo star: "You don't show him respect, Mama June."
But, despite the fact that Shannon has reportly "traveled a bit" (euphemism alert!) during her marriage, the feeling seems to be mutual. Shannon specifically faults her husband for believing gossip that she stepped out on their relationship.

She did not bang the Tang. A man named Nathan Sellers accused his girlfriend Lia Palmquist of sleeping with the entire Wu-Tang Clan on the Friday, April 10 episode of Divorce Court, and their appearance before Judge Lynn Toler has since gone viral. "This sounds ridiculous, but he accused me of sleeping with the entire Wu-Tang Clan," Palmquist said before the courtroom, which erupted into laughter. "She did," Sellers claimed, while Judge Toler asked incredulously: "Well, do you even know the Wu-Tang Clan?!" Palmquist confirmed she did. "I did. [...]...

Nathan Sellers and Lia Palmquist certainly brought the ruckus to Friday's episode of Divorce Court, when Sellers accused his girlfriend of sleeping with the entirety of the Wu-Tang Clan. (Specifically, he said "She gave the Wu some tang" – we also would have accepted some kind of 36 Chambers-based pun.)
Palmquist told Judge Lynn Toler that while she was out with the group on their tour bus and in their hotel until 7 a.m. on the night (er, morning) in question, nothing untoward occurred.
"Nothing inappropriate happened, and let me just put on the record that Wu-Tang is nothing but gentlemen," Palmquist explained.

The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating the possibility that the death scene of Wendy Blackstone, sister of television producer Jill Blackstone, may have been staged. A suicide note was found in Wendy’s hand, but police are now questioning the situation, TMZ reports. As reported by TheWrap yesterday, Jill Blackstone, whose producing credits include “The Jerry Springer Show,” “Divorce Court” and “Family Court With Judge Penny,” was arrested Monday on suspicion of murder.

Twentieth Television and Fox Television Stations have announced that syndicated court show Divorce Court has been renewed for another season. This will keep the series on the air through 2016-17.
Judge Lynn Toler presides over the show which is currently in its 15th season. This incarnation of Divorce Court was launched in 1999. The original Divorce Court started in the 1950s and featured actors reenacting divorce proceedings.
"In the current landscape where many shows have declining ratings, we are thrilled to have a long-running program on an opposite trajectory," said Stephen Brown, executive vice-president of development and programming of the Fox Television Stations. "Renewing the series was an easy decision to make."

The current version started in 1999 with Mablean Ephriam on the bench, is unscripted and shows real-life couples. Toler took over in 2006.
Twentieth Television executive VP and general sales manager Paul Franklin said, “Lynn’s ability to simultaneously entertain viewers while compassionately counseling her litigants is translating to ratings hights. We are thrilled that Divorce Court will remain a key component on local station’s daytime blocks."

Judge Judy Sheindlin is throwing in the towel. After the ex-wife of one of her producers sued Judy over an expensive set of dishes and flatware, the TV judge is sending them back where they came from, TMZ reports. Sheindlin originally purchased the Christofle tableware from producer Randy Douthit, for $50,000. Douthit's ex-wife, Patric Jones, says he legally shouldn't have done that, as they were going through a divorce at the time, and the set was community property.
Jones also claims Judy got the dishes for way less than they were actually worth. She believes they carried a pricetag of $515,421.15, and she wanted Sheindlin to pay the full price, or return the dishes. It was later revealed that divorce documents listed the tableware with a price of around $100,000.
Now, Judy simply gives up. In reference to Jones, Sheindlin says, "She and her attorney want a circus and I refuse to be...
