Chicago – “Trolls” isn’t the type of confection that I would normally subject myself to, but at least it didn’t make me want to stick knitting needles in my ears. That’s because “Trolls” aspires to be this season’s “Frozen,” a full blown animated musical jam packed with songs you can’t get out of your head as much as you might try.
Rating: 3.5/5.0
In the movie’s world, Trolls live peacefully in safe exile after escaping from the clutches of a people called the Bergens. There’s plentiful singing, dancing, and hugs at regular intervals. And they’re led by Princess Poppy (voice by Anna Kendrick), who in addition to being on the verge of perpetually breaking into song, has an almost pathological positivity in the face of obstacles. Naturally she’s paired up with Branch (Justin Timberlake), the one Troll who’s as sour as she is sweet.

Chicago – James Bond is back in his latest adventure, “Spectre,” but what about his movie life before this film? Spike Walters of HollywoodChicago.com ranks the 24 official James Bond films from worst to first, an overview of 007’s movie and cultural presence from 1962 through today.
The legacy of James Bond began in 1953, with the release of the first in a series of novels detailing the spy’s escapades, written by Ian Fleming. The British agent with a “license to kill” designation (007) was featured in 12 novels and two short story collections. In 1962, the first of the 24 official films – “Dr. No” – was released, starring Sean Connery, and began a series that maintains its popularity to this day. Many fans of the series consider Connery the essential James Bond, but many other actors followed him as Bond in the official film canon – George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and the current 007, Daniel Craig.

If A&E hoped suspending Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson would quiet the controversy over the bigoted and ignorant statements he made in a GQ profile, they got the opposite effect. The show became a culture war battlefield, as Sean Hannity gave radio listeners A&E’s phone number telling them to call and GLAAD receiving “violently angry phone calls and social media posts“.
The NAACP put out a letter with the Hrc, which seems to have gotten the media to pay attention to Robertson’s racially insensitive comments in addition to his homophobic ones. Meanwhile, the rest of the Robertson clan put out a statement saying they can’t imagine continuing the show without Phil Robertson.
As the debut of Sherlock‘s third season nears, Steven Moffat says, he’s confident there will be a fourth. “It’s inordinately successful. Assuming everyone was willing to turn up for it,...

I met Bob Godfrey in 1952 when I joined the William Larkin studio in Mayfair. To relieve the boredom of the industrial instructional films we were making, Bob and I started working on cartoon films in his basement in Tufnell Park, north London. In 1955 we left Larkin's and started Biographic Films, specifically to make commercials for ITV. We had the first cartoon commercial on the first night of ITV in September 1955.
For Courage Ales we made a series of live-action ads parodying silent cinema. The commercials, complete with title cards, followed the adventures of a villain, a lady and a dashing hero – the last played by Bob himself. They typically ended with the rescued damsel telling the hero to claim his reward: he always chose the ale. We filmed one behind King's Cross station and another in Bognor Regis; I was left with the equipment when the tide came in.

Rochester, NY - Ever wonder why schools today stink compared to decades ago? Every think tank moron has their dubious reasonings that appeases their corporate masters. But the truth is extraordinarily simple: Schools dumped their education films.
Do you remember those days when the gym teacher had to pad out health class by wheeling in the 16mm projector from the Av department? They’d thread up classic tales about your body, narcotics, driving safety and manners. Things which kids nowadays can’t seem to handle.
When the Vcr arrived in schools, the 16mm projector was quickly dumped as teaching tool.
Where did these classic films go? Many arrived at the city dump. However a few lucky tens of thousands found themselves on the racks of the Av Geeks Archive. This repository of cinematic education is overseen by Skip Elsheimer. He started collecting the films after I moved out of the infamous PineHaus.

If you have been to the cinema recently you may have noticed a poster or indeed a trailer for the new Robin Williams, John Travolta, Seth Green vehicle titled Old Dogs. The poster features Green cradled in the arms of a gorilla and the trailer shows what I presume to be the same gorilla hurling a tyre at Travolta and smacking him in the face.
While I am ashamed to admit I actually laughed at seeing a scientologist get his ass kicked by a gorilla I think we can all assume that film is going to be utter crap. Anyway as rubbish as I think the film may be I do like apes and monkeys. They just make me laugh, sigh… it’s the little things in life I suppose.
Anyway, this got me thinking about my favourite movies starring “Monkeys and Apes” – and here is what I have come up with.
